    Great Universal, Trafford that was is one expensive way to shop. My wife first used Trafford in the early 70's when we needed to furnish our first home. I was at sea at the time and credit, unlike today was difficult to obtain, even more so if you were a serving member of Her Majesties Armed Forces. So we were happy when we stumbled across an advert for a Trafford catalogue which we promptly applied for and used and hurray a free gift on receipt of the first order became ours.     I’ve had a hard life, and brought up in a house where catalogues weren’t just used for shopping. My mother didn’t have a very long fuse when I was younger – and I admit I might have been a little mischievous. One day in particular stands out among my memories: Our house was one where you could walk around the bottom in a circle, from front room to kitchen to dinning room to hall and so forth continuing the circle.     I've been using great universal for about 3 years and so far have had nothing to grumble about, the first and most important thing to me {been quite phone shy} is that the staff are always extremely helpful and friendly, not like some other catalogues where they make u feel like your bothering them when u ask to many questions. Second thing i love about great universal is there range of payment methods, u can choose the number of weeks u want to pay over which range from 20weeks, 40weeks right up to 100weeks.     Despite my last order through the catalogues being a while back due to the appalling service provided by La Redoute I do still browse through them when the big heavy books lands on the doorstep. Last week that book was the Great Universal Spring Summer 08 edition allowing you until the 17th August 2008 to make your purchase. "Spread the cost with affordable payment options," screams the green circle of text on the lower left hand side of the page.     I have used many catalogue shopping companies but Great Universal is one of my favourites. What tempted me was the special free gifts upon my first order and these include goods such as a duvet/blanket set, pan set, etc. I decided to take the 20% off voucher rather as my initial order amounted to quite a large amount therefore the savings using the 20% discount was more than the value of the free gift that I could choose. Furthermore, you can earn 10% in cash commission (or 12 and half% to spend in the catalogue) on anything purchased through your account. Of course, GUS tempt you with these ... more

    I have been a customer with Great Universal for at least 12 years now, I have several catalogues, but this is by far my favourite. Mainly because of the customer service I have received over the years. In all the years I have been shopping with the company, I don’t think I have had a single complaint to be made against them. Not a single item has got lost along the way, unlike other catalogues I have shopped with (though everyone is entitled to their mistakes). They do take roughly 4 -5 days to deliver, which is slower than some catalogues, which offer a 2 day delivery, but maybe that is ... more

    Yesterday I received a letter from Great Universal, the mail order catalogue people. I usually receive loads of junk mail offering discounts and some sort of new promotion. These letters hardly ever get read and end up in the recycling bag. However this one caught my eye. It was informing me that as of the beginning of next month (June), there will no more cash back – EVER! I have been a customer of Great Universal for 10 years.     So there I am, about to start a new job with 4 days notice, when I get my eye on a Great Universal catalogue on the doorstep. I flick through, and find a marvellous 4 piece suit for £89 - skirt, trousers, dress and jacket, all matching. Ideal, I thought to myself, so I rang up adn ordered next day service. Having never ordered from a catalogue before, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was - one 2 minute phone call.     Fancy having a 5 floor shopping store in your front room with access to everything from your favourite armchair, well get a load of this. I am sure that if it exists it is available from this catologue but, while many other home shopping catologues may be able to make the same claim, the service that you get from Great Universal is what makes it the best for me. Catologues are seasonal plus lots of interim smaller ones. Ordering. For a start I have been with them for 8 years and I have a free phone number for ordering.     In the easy climate of shopping from the comfort of one's swivel chair, I fell hook, line and sinker for what appeared to be a fantastic offer from Great Universal's website, featuring a large black leather sofa with accompanying standard sized version for a very reasonable price. In addition, the added benefits mentioned by some other reviewers: eg. the 20% discount for first time buyers, meant that a good £150 or so was knocked off, giving all the appearances of a fabulous deal.
