Date - 6th February 2005 Venue - Carling Hammersmith Apollo, Hammersmith, London Main Act - Green Day Support - New Found Glory ~~~ The Venue ~~~ The venue in itself was an absolute joy, providing comfortable seating with decent views of the band and the surrounding area in general. Having been an old cinema, the seats were previously catered to allow a prime view of the stage area, and luckily that hasn’t been compromised since it’s renovation to an ‘events’ arena. The Apollo itself, has hosted some of the main players in modern music over the last 10 years, yet never a band of the ‘gigging’ ... more

Advantages Advantages the emotion, the feeling, the band-fan interaction, everything

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Hard-Fi

Hot off the heels of their successful UK legs of the 'American Idiot World Tour 2005' in January and February, Green Day announced plans for a huge show at the Milton Keynes Bowl, one which would become their biggest ever single performance in their 16 years as a band. Ticket sales day came and went - the gig had sold out within the hour, and the band consequently named a second date for a repeat performance the following night. Over the weekend of June 18th and 19th, Green Day would play to a combined audience of 130,000 people, and with the shows both being filmed for a November DVD release ... more

Advantages Advantages A Great Concert on a great day

Disadvantages Disadvantages Notihing to do with Green Day, but the Traffic!

The combination of the hottest day of the year so far, a band at the height of its powers after the record selling 'American Idiot,' performing their biggest UK concert ever, and for 2 sold out nights running - meant this was going to be special, and it was…. Milton Keynes National Bowl was the venue, the colossal natural amphitheatre on the outskirts of Milton Keynes which holds over 65,000, it was looking a picture, absolutely packed, from the stage right up to the rim of the bowl stretching into the distnace. All in rapt anticipation at the prospect of seeing their hero's Billie Joe ... more

Advantages Advantages Electric live set, audience participation, great fu, pyros & fireworks

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lack of diversity, poor support act, expensive venue

Green Day’s appearance at Wembley was a much-talked about topic in the office on Monday. I was therefore greatly surprised when on the same night I get a phone call from a beloved friend telling me that he had won 2 tickets via Xfm to see the first of there two shows! And so the story begins….. Support acts at Wembley are usually well known bands, with their own stage settings and backdrop. Cue many puzzled faces when a band that we had never even heard of took to the stage and proceeded to blast out emo-punk in front of the performance curtain with no indication as to who they actually were ... more

Advantages Advantages A fab night out

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

When my son gave me the latest Green Day album - American Idiot - for Christmas, I was a little hesitant. I had asked for it based on the first two singles released - the beautiful 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' and the title track, 'American Idiot'. But this was a band I had loved 10 years ago at the time of their 'Dookie' album. Somehow I'd lost track of them and not followed their career since then. What if I didn't like this album? What if it tainted the pleasure I'd had in them previously? Of course I was not disappointed. When I played the album I was blown away. There was no going back, I ... more

Advantages Advantages Plenty off Dookie tracks

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not enough off of other albums

This was a gig live from Miami and was recorded for broadcast on television and can be seen on MTV2. It was an introductory gig to Green Day's new stuff on 'Warning' for the die hard American fans. As they state during the intervals a lot of the younger people there skived off school to go and see the band. They jump staright in with what ws the current single 'Minority' and then follow that up with track 3 of 'Warning' which is 'Church On Sunday'. They play a lot of tracks off of 'Dookie' (Longview, Welcome To Paradise, Basket Case, She, When I Come Around) and they also play the first single ... more

Advantages Advantages An absolutely amazing concert

Disadvantages Disadvantages It was long enough

When I was told that Greenday were coming on tour to Manchester i was sooooooo happy and when I managed to get standing tickets i was even happier. A group of me and my mates went 6 hours before the concert started so we could queue to get to the front. Imagine my excitment when it actually payed off and i was stood at the barrier 1 metre away from the stage that Greenday would be performing on!! The supporting act was New Found Glory and after seeing them as a supporting act i would definately pay to see them in their own concert. Greenday came on and sang the new songs and the usual ones ... more

    Advantages Advantages brilliant songs atmosphere

    Disadvantages Disadvantages large venue

I have been listening to Green Day music for the past five years, so I was really excited about actually going to see them live. The gig was absolutely mind blowing, and lived up to all of my expectations, even though it was in such a large venue. The band played many tracks from their new album, "Warning", but also played older material. Billie Joe Armstrong (lead singer) was full of energy and was a brilliant showman, regularly squrting a water gun at the crowd. About half way through, the band got one of the fans on stage to play guitar for their cover version of Operation Ivy's song ... more

Advantages Advantages The band less than 2 feet away and playing longer than billed

Disadvantages Disadvantages Sweltering heat and crushing crowd

Now I'm one of those lucky sods who's actually managed to see Green Day 3 times this year and as the venues increased in size so did my admiration for this band. So far I've seen them at Hammersmith Apollo, Milton Keynes Bowl and finally at T in the Park. Not once did they leave me feeling disappointed, from the moment they came on stage to the final chords ringing out across the audience, they didn't stop or tire once. The show usually kicks off with (after the support) with a pink bunny dancing to the YMCA and from there progresses with the boys playing tracks from American Idiot ... more

When Greenday anncounced their upcoming concert in Milton Keynes we were immediately trying to get tickets.Greenday were currently flying high after just releasing their album 'American Idiot' . We had tickets for the 2nd and last night at Milton Keynes' National Bowl in June 2005 with a sell-out crowd of 65000 ready for the concert. The supporting bands were Hard-Fi , Taking Back Sunday and Jimmy Eat World all played very well. The only disappointments of the day were the traffic surrounding Milton Keynes. We were fortunate enough to park really close but it took hours to even get out of the ... more
