    Advantages Advantages smells nice

    Disadvantages Disadvantages -

I first hear about this perfume when I heard the women at work talking about it. It isn't one that I was familiar with as it isn't one that I have ever tried in stores but when I heard them say great things about it, I had to give it a try. This fragrance was launched in 1925 which I was very surprised to find out as it has obviously lasted a very long time to still be around almost a century later. It is probably one of those like Chanel No.5, a timeless classic and when something has a good reputation like this, it gets my curiosity going. APPEARANCE This Shalimar perfume comes in a very ... more

    Advantages Advantages A classic fragrance.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None.

Jacques Guerlain created `Shalimar` over eighty- five years ago and that famous classic fragrance has stayed as popular as ever. Many of the famous perfumiers have been inspired to create a perfume to celebrate or to remember a time that has been significant in their lives and Guerlains Shalimar has a beautiful story behind it. When Emperor Shah Jahan ( reigned 1628-1658) married his beloved wife Mumtaz it was a match made in heaven. Mumtaz was incredibly beautiful and the Emperor was besotted with her. Together they went on to have many children but Mumtaz died giving birth to the couples ... more

Shalimar was created by Jacques Guerlain in 1925, as a tribute to the legendary love story between Emperor Shahjahan and his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Her death devastated Shah Jahan and had built Taj Mahal in memory of his wife and their undying love. Shalimar is named after ‘The Gardens of Shalimar’.It was Mumtaz’s favorite garden. The Perfume has the notes; lemon, bergamot, jasmine, may rose, opoponax, Tonka bean, vanilla, iris, Peru balsam and gray amber, Frankincense, Vetiver, Patchouli, Sandalwood. When I first spritzed this around Christmas 2010 I found it too overwhelming, I didn't find that ... more

Advantages Advantages Im passionate about it

    Disadvantages Disadvantages ...

I think I am a quite modern girl, net-addicted and stuff like that, but in perfume Im the most classical and grandma-like you could imagine. I just dont understand (and i dont like) the smelling stuff its coming to the market in these days. The most of them smells like cleaning products or so... (But I love Azuree Soleil, from Estee Lauder, launched in limited edition last year, but I cant find it anymore. If anybody knows were I can find it...) I love classics like Chanel n. 5, Miss Dior, Opium... I think the most recent that Im addicted its Coco, launched in the end of the 70s, but my ... more

Advantages Advantages Subtly sensuousness, irresistible, exotic

Disadvantages Disadvantages The top of the bottle ALWAYS seems to break

Shalimar is an adult woman scent. It is intoxicatingly exotic and subtly sensous without being even remotely overpowering. It does not state boldly, it hints obliquely and all the more seductively. It is thus not suited for the teenage or twen market. Its wearers are proud to be mature! This perfume is one of the oldest commercially-manufactured French perfumes. It contains sandalwood, speices (particularly vanilla and cinnamon), iris, hesperides and opopanax in a base of amber. It has excellent lasting power, even in the eau de toilette version. There is a lovely story to the naming of this ... more

Advantages Advantages Light oriental fragrance with a hint of vanilla

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

Guerlain's Shalimar has been around for quite a long time. Yet it's still very much en vogue. Unlike with some other fragrances, people never seem to get tired of it. It's a very sensual fragrance that seems to be made for a brunette. Shalimar belongs to the group of oriental fragrances, yet it's also a tiny bit sweet. It contains vanilla, sweet bergamot, and tonka bean. Yes, I am nuts for fragrances and that's no secret. If you want, you can go all the way with Shalimar, as Guerlain also offers things like shower gel, soap, body lotion, and even a perfumed deodorant stick all with the ... more

Advantages Advantages Strong, intoxicating scent. Ideal for Christmas parties.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too overpowering for everyday wear.

Guerlain's Shalimar Eau de Toilette is extremely powerful, heady, even intoxicating! I wouldn't have chosen it for myself but my husband bought it for me many years ago and so I've used it from time to time. I've grown to like it, probably because I now associate Shalimar with going to Christmas events and parties. I'm nearing the end of my bottle, and won't buy it again (I prefer lighter, more floral scents really) but will look back on it with fondness! If you are considering Shalimar as a purchase for yourself or someone else I'd suggest trialling it first - it's definitely a quality ... more

    Advantages Advantages strong, seductive

Disadvantages Disadvantages sweet - if you don´t like sweet!

Guerlain´s Shalimar is the very, very seductive scent. I used it on my wedding day (and night)...need I say more? Yes? When I was younger and available, I preferred these come-hither scents. Out of these, Shalimar is a classic exampld! Sweet, spicy, musky, seductive. The best in it´s own class, I´s say. Sweet, but on the other hand, sophisticated, too...it has got that certain guerlain je-ne-sais-que! You know the basic scent Guerlain always has on the bottom of every parfume? I think you don´t find it here so easily. If you´ve got a new bloke, or wish you would, this is for you. ... more
