Advantages: fascinating world, intriguing characters, interesting crimes Disadvantages: none that I can think of!
...My Thoughts: Guilty Pleasures was first released back in 1993. I am baffled as to how I could have overlooked this series for so many years, but in exchange I've had the pleasure of reading the series back to back from book one straight through to book fifteen, The Harlequin, over the past three months. Things have a way of evening themselves out. Hamilton's first book in this series set its hooks deep into the mind of this reader, and I'd have to ... ...of this life. Guilty Pleasures is the name of the strip club Jean-Claude runs, but it is also an apt description of Anita's feelings about the events that unfold in this book. Here, we are just being introduced to Anita, her powers, and her world. All the books to follow just help add a little flesh to these rather appealing bones. "Pity is an emotion that can get you killed. The only thing more dangerous is blind hate, and maybe love." Anita may ...

Advantages: Readable, scary(in parts)and action packed Disadvantages: not much depth to it
I read this about a week ago after picking up a cheap copy. I'd heard a lot about this series as it seems to have been well publicised (this may just be me). The plot concerns Anita Blake, vampire hunter, and raiser of the dead. The vampire hunter part is a bit of a misnomer as she spends much of the book helping them. It would be more accurate to say she dislikes vampires but only kills them if they become to much of a nuisance. Anita is employed ... ...She is also asked(coerced)to investigate these killings by Jean Claude, a master vampire. The plot therefore is fairly easy to follow. The vampires turn out to be being killed by ..(but that would spoil the book), suffice to say it has to do with a desire for immortality.
The strength of this book is that it happens in our near furture, a time when vampires are liscensed citizens and zombies are regularly raised to help in court cases. As well as ...

Advantages: Smart, funny, horrifying - a glorious action/adventure tour-de-force. Disadvantages: You might be waiting for the big message to jump out at you. Unless you really need to be told to be careful around vampires, you won't find one.
'Guilty Pleasures' is the first novel in the series by Laurell K. Hamilton detailing the life and times of Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter. Now calm down - before you start yelling 'Buffy rip off!', I should point out that this novel was first published in the States way back in 1993. At the time, Buffy was nothing more than a dismal movie flop starring Kirsty Swanson, and Anita Blake was coming into her own. Still, if I hadn't heard from some American ... ...been put off by the tacky covers, and that same thought that this might be a cheap cash-in.
In Laura Hamilton's fictional world, vampires have just been declared legal citizens if the United States of America, with rights equal to those of the living citizens. They have merged into our society, if not seamlessly, then at the very least enthusiastically. Vampire immigration is at a peak, understandably given that the rest of the world has no such ...

...is an entertainer at club Guilty Pleasures
This is a very good book to read. There’s a lot of humour and wit used to keep you amused and intrigued. The humour can be very dark, though. Laurell K Hamilton has a very easy to read style so there’s no sense of confusion. Even if you have never read a vampire or a supernatural creature book before, it will still draw you in. This book isn’t set in a fantasy world, its set in a place that you can be familiar ... ...It’s a very captivating book. Guilty Pleasures has enough supernatural action to please even the most hardcore horror fans. And then with the support of very interesting and unusual characters, a highly clever and witty plot, and with a very easy to read and steady pace, you have a book that is almost impossible to put down.
If you haven’t read a vampire book, then this book will the best book to start from, there’s a heap of mystery added with ...

Advantages: its a good starter book to a great series Disadvantages: none
this is the first book in the Anita Blake series. Anita blake is an Animator and vampire slayer, living in a world where the monsters are all legal. Laurell K.
