The true drink of the Gods

Advantages: A very enjoyable and sometimes healthy drink
Disadvantages: Like all alcoholic beverages, can be dangerous if too much is drunk

...Guinness. Even though I believe Guinness to be one of the finest stouts in the world and perhaps the best overall alcoholic beverage to grace the earth, I concede that there are those that cannot palate the drink of the Gods (well in my theology the Gods drink Guinness with Fish and Chips being the choice of food.) Guinness is a stout brewed in Ireland. It is one of the most recognizable alcoholic beverages all over the world. Wherever ...
...and a pint of Guinness. Guinness are renowned for their mysterious and strange adverts, this perhaps explain the enigma that is Guinness. The drink is just as strange and mysterious, with even the bubbles moving in strangely unique ways. Guinness is an acquired taste. It is a full-bodied brew that is very bitter. It is a heavy drink that is full of taste. Not many people will be able to drink more than two or three pints as it is very heavy. To ...

Same Again Please

Advantages: Very nice taste, with health Benefits
Disadvantages: May be a bit too thick for some people

Guinness is one of those drinks you look at every time you walk into a pub but never dare to actually buy a pint of until one day you finally decide to take the plunge and try a pint of the black stuff. Strangely enough my first pint of Guinness coincided with my first Rugby game at London Irish on St Patrick's day last year. Since that day I can often be found with a pint of Guinness in my hand when I'm out with mates on a Friday night. So on with ...
...The creator of Guinness was Arthur Guinness and he founded the first Guinness brewery was founded in 1759 by Arthur in James Street, Dublin. Guinness was known as Porter in Ireland and was a new type of beer to be released on the Irish public. It is brewed by roasting the Barley to give it the unique colour and taste. Serving & Drinking ****************** For the best results from a pint of Guinness pour three quarters of the pint and let it sit ...

A piece of Velvet I will sup in Dublin

Advantages: Wonderful Taste
Disadvantages: Can ruin your bowels

...be because my mother drank Guinness when she was pregnant (Guinness has an incredibly high iron content) and I developed a taste for it by osmosis? Or is my taste for lager just an aberration I am growing out of? I honestly do not know what is wrong with me but each month I go through enough Guinness to sink a battleship and pay for it the next day (It is the hangover drink from hell! So don’t drink too much of it! (unlike me groan)). Guinness, ...
...95% chance of having a Guinness pump ready and waiting when you walk in. The phenomenon was incredibly freaky for me in Paris! Seeing that distinctive pump sitting there happily waiting for you when you walked into a bar was quite disturbing to say the least. You cannot avoid Guinness no matter how hard you try. After all the stuff has been sold all over the world for the last 200 years! But the question that I have always wondered is why is it ...

Alcohol or Art

Advantages: looks great, tastes great, did I mention it looks great?
Disadvantages: rip-off pubs charge more for it than most other beers.

...a perfectly poured pint of Guinness is how beautiful it looks. Assuming that your bar person has selected a clean glass and has poured the pint correctly, they will place on the bar in front of you a pint of dark liquid with an indistinct creaminess as your Guinness goes thru its final settle. Look closer at the liquid in the glass, and marvel at the ethereal beauty of the head seemingly flowing DOWN the inside of your glass whilst simultaneously ...
...great effect in some superb Guinness advertising campaigns over the years. This contrast of white on top of black. Which makes it all the more ironic that the liquid is not black, but is in fact a dark dark ruby red. You can check this out by taking a sip from your pint, holding it up to light and tipping it slightly . Look at the bottom of the glass, you should see a dark ruby glow. This is the true colour of Guinness. Now that your eyes have fully ...

The girly girl goes all macho...

Advantages: I can *finally* drink the stuff!
Disadvantages: It's still stout...

...strange thing I found about Guinness is how incredibly filling it is - I can't manage more than one pint in a night. Some random facts I've noted about the black stuff: The old Guinness posters claim that "Guinness is good for you" - this isn't really all that accurate. You see, they made this claim because Guinness is richer in iron than most other drinks. Unfortunately, a pint of Guinness won't provide anywhere near your RDA of iron, and will ...
...true what they say - Guinness does taste better in Ireland! When I was in Dublin, the Guinness was much creamier and less bitter tasting - much easier to drink than the stuff over here. From my extensive research, (ie some random Irish barman I was chatting up told me) I've discovered that this is something to do with the exportation process - apparently the Irish believe the journey across the Irish sea "knocks some of the air out of the Guinness" ...

The ultimate creamy head

Advantages: Great taste
Disadvantages: None if taken in moderation

Nothing is more Irish than Guinness stout but this was not always the case in fact Guinness is a copy of a traditional type of English ale! MY OWN EXPERIENCE WITH GUINNESS Ever since going to University in the south of England I have been a confirmed real ale drinker. The south has some great local breweries making some great beers, Gales, Fullers, Harveys, Ringwood. One drawback of drinking ale is that it can be difficult to find a good pint, ...
...choice in pubs. Guinness is a very complex beer known as 'Stout' (see below), which has a very distinctive taste. It is almost sweet with a slight bitter aftertaste. If kept and served correctly it is very creamy but not too gassy. It makes a perfect sipping drink, and since it has relatively low alcohol content it won't get you too drunk too soon. A word of warning though there are danger to drinking it. A few years back I was fortunate enough to ...

THE DARK BROWN NECTAR

Advantages: Tasty, good for you!
Disadvantages: Foul to throw up!

...that's another story... Creamy Guinness (stout) originating from Ireland has a unique rich taste, sort of bitter with a pleasing drinakble creaminess and it is easy to get throgh a lot of the stuff - gory details coming later! It is now available in cans or bottles aswell as in most good pubs or licenced premises and is the same kind of price as most good quality beers( around £1.50 a can or £2.50+ in a pub). I worked in a pub for a while and ...
...easy to get drunk on Guinness quickly without being aware of it and it does not have that horrible bloating, gassy effect which a lot of beers and lagers have although it is quite a 'heavy' drink so you do start to feel full quite quickly and need the loo a lot (or maybe that's just me!) It is has also been renowned for many years for its medicinal qualities (high iron content) and so you may often find the more mature lady drinking it! (My mother ...

NOT LAGER LAGER TONIGHT THANKS

Advantages: Unique creamy drink, pours well from a can, tasty stuff!
Disadvantages: More than a couple and I suspect I'd be bloated!

Guinness Draught Stout is probably the most world famous example of a drink of its kind. Indeed I cannot of think of any other stouts at the moment apart from one beginning with M that my Grandma used to sup. I reckon in Family Fortunes style, if 100 people were surveyed to name a brand of stout, then the top answer with about 90 would be Guinness. I only tried Guinness for the first time yesterday. I’d been feeling ill all day, I’d had the day ...
...shelf came two cans of Guinness Draught, at £1.29 each from Unwins, located within my local Petrol station. It was on offer at £8 for 8 cans I think, but I didn’t want all those if I didn’t like it! The draught cans are the ones with the widget, and the according to the black can, the drink needs to be chilled for at least 3 hours before pouring. These cans were ice cold to the touch, so they must have been in the chiller all day! Out comes a pint ...

GENIUS

Advantages: Looks and tastes fantastic
Disadvantages: Very bitter not to everyones taste

Ah!! “The Black Stuff”. Guinness is a drink that you will either love or hate the first time you try it. The fact that it is extremely bitter puts some people off at first. However, perceiver and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. The beer (or rather stout) itself is an opaque black colour, is almost flat and has a very bitter taste. Guinness was first brewed in Southern Ireland. St. James Gate in Dublin to be exact. However, ...
...27 countries receive finished draft Guinness directly from Dublin. As a result pretty much wherever you are in the world you’ll be able to find somewhere selling Guinness in some form. You may be surprised to know, as I was, that Guinness actually comes in 19 different varieties. And to be honest, I only know of 3!!! The most common of which is Draught Stout (4.1%). This is the one you will find for sale in pubs and is also available in cans. ...

You can pour this wonderful stuff into a pint glass, but do it slowly, as its just under a pint at 440ml and what I normally do, although not tonight, is to add a drop of cola to make it up to the pint, doing this takes away some of the bitterness of the stout that I taste and leaves you with a sweeter and more creamier version of this ...

Guinness is good for you.........re expanding wasteline!

Advantages: Tatste great and has real health benefits
Disadvantages: Very easy to get a beer belly drinking this stuff

Guinness Living in Ireland I have very early childhood memories of male relatives supping on pints of Guinness. I always thought it was funny when they ended up with the Guinness moustache after their first drink and I even remember getting a few a myself (although I didn't drink the stuff back then). I first dabbled with Guinness when I started working in a bar. It was a real mans bar and everyone drank Guinness in some shape or another. Back then ...

The brewery in Dublin is still there today and part of it has become a tourist attraction where visitors can pour their very own Guinness and receive a certificate for doing so. It also gives people a chance to learn about the brewing process of one of the worlds ...

Guinness, the ubiquitous stout? Not quite.

Advantages: Widely available and reliable standard
Disadvantages: Often served way too cold and possibly slightly overrated

...and, not least, Rutger Hauer, Guinness has certainly had a history of memorable advertising. But does the product live up to this billing in the memory of the drinker? Is it truly worth the premium price that gets charged for it? This beer is extremely widely available. It has always been positioned as somewhat different to all the other beers sitting next to it on the bar and that it is. It also elicits more snobbery from its followers than virtually ...
...is not. Although chilling Guinness slightly below room temperature is necessary, blasting it to within an whisker of freezing into a solid lump takes away a lot of what's best about it. Loathe though I am to agree with the Guinness snobs, it does matter where you choose to drink it. When overly chilled you lose the malty flavour, the roasted finish and almost all the aroma that hits you when you raise the glass to your lips. It suddenly becomes disappointingly ...

The vilest brew imaginable

Advantages: It's supposed to be good for you (can't imagine how!)
Disadvantages: It's disgusting!!!

...saying how wonderful a drink Guinness is. I took one look at the Top 5 beers listed, and laughed - recommended by 100% of Ciao reviewers! Dear God! I can't believe anyone actually drinks this stuff! As you may have gathered from my introduction, I'm not a great fan of Guinness stout. There seems to be an unwritten rule that everyone must say how good Guinness tastes, and how fantastic their advertisements are. But, I just cannot understand this. ...

By the end, it was telling just how many partially drunk bottles remained, whereas every other Guinness brand on display (e.g. Smirnoff Ice, Bells, Malibu, Archers Aqua, Jack Daniels, Gordons, Pimms, Baileys...) had vanished in a flash. The price of Guinness varies between pubs much the same as for any beer, but I'd say it ...

Things started off slowly, in fact it took to 1769 before they first exported Guinness when they shipped 6 and a half barrels to England. But from tiny acorns, do great oaks grow.
