HMV offer a good quality service...

Advantages: Friendly Staff, Great range of products, Lots of stores nationwide...
Disadvantages: Shop products more expensive than online...

...and regularly go to a HMV shop near me. The store though is also online and I often refer to the online HMV store to check sale items and prices, although the prices can differ from the internet shop and high street shops. Why go to HMV? I think that you should go to the HMV store because of the friendly service that I have experienced at the shop in the past. The store does not just sell music though. Oh no, HMV is classed as an "entertainment" ...
...much more which means that HMV is your must have store for any of these items. HMV shops are everywhere, there are 81 stores in just the South East, London way, so you will never not find a HMV store where there are lots of shops. There are 22 stores in Scotland, 28 in the North East, 11 in Northern Ireland, 8 in Wales and many more across the UK... Is HMV good value for money? HMV isn't the cheapest entertainment retailer out there but it certainly ...

The HMV Store - Best Media Retailer 2009 (In My Opinion)

Advantages: Good Prices, Great Staff, Clean & Organised Store
Disadvantages: CD Prices Are Slightly High

HMV has been one of those stores which I always go into every time I’m in town, and having to had gone to and from school through my local town centre, I used to visit HMV on a frequent basis looking for deals and bargains, of which there are plenty and it had become one of my favourite shops for the numerous reasons and having visited my fair share of HMV stores all over the North West of the United Kingdom, I have experienced the same quality of ...
...the whole chain of HMV Stores. This review is largely based on my local HMV Store in Chester, UK, however I’ve also visited other stores around the North West so my opinions and views are mainly consistent of those stores, but I imagine they don’t vary that much since they are a chain of stores made to look identical as possible. ===What Does HMV Sell?=== HMV is probably the UK’s leading media selling store, by media I mean, DVD’s, CD, Video Games ...

HMV IS THE TOP DOG FOR MUSIC ETC

Advantages: wide ranges of different products appropriately categorised - easy to navigate, friendly staff, special offers
Disadvantages: Newer products are a bit expensive in comparison to other high street stores, bad lighting

HMV seems to be a well established music empire, because even my mum knows that HMV stands for His Masters Voice and she has even gone as far to shop there! However established HMV is, it has a funky all-round image that would appeal to young and old, and is my first port of call when I'm looking for CDs and such. There a few things I love about HMV and a few things I hate: 1. One thing I love is that when you enter most HMV stores, from the doorway ...
...stores are very modern, and HMV spend a lot in keeping their stores modern and up to date. I was distraught to be left without HMV when they gutted the building and rebuilt it which took about a year to complete. The original store was fairly small, and they had managed to buy some more of the building in which they were located and they expanded the building to include a second floor for videos and computer games, and they fitted some monitors on ...

For all your entertainment needs

Advantages: Lots to choose from, they have a lot of sales
Disadvantages: Can sometimes be a bit pricey

HMV is one of the top high street shops in the UK, it is one of the main places to go for chart music CDs and DVDs, however there is a lot of competition with Virgin and supermarkets such as Asda and Tesco which all sell CD's and DVD's at reasonable prices. The HMV store in Plymouth is fairly large, there are two floors. When you first walk in, you notice that it is fairly dark inside...however you can still see where everything is! There is always ...
...What I like about HMV is that they seem to have sales every week, whether it is 3 DVDs for £20 or CD's for £3.99. There is usually quite a lot to choose from, most of the time I never see anything I want...but you can be lucky sometimes, especially if there is something you have been looking for, for a while. The chart CDs are positioned against the wall and it is clear to see where the albums are and where the singles are. The singles are reasonably ...

Roll up, roll up, roll up, discounts galore

Advantages: Great offers, huge selection in every store, helpful staff
Disadvantages: Full price goods can often be found cheaper elsewhere

...I have ever been to HMV when there hasn’t been some offer on some of their products. Whether it is a 2 for £22 CD sale or a 4 for £20 video sale, there is always something from this, my favourite mainstream, chain music shops. HMV sell everything you could want from a music shop and more: CD’s of every genre – pop, rock, classical, alternative, easy listening, folk, world music, spoken word books, etc; Videos of both TV and film, ...
...is a fantastic bargain; HMV also has a large selection of computer and console games available. There are a range of shop sizes. In Glasgow there is a couple of HUGE shops and also at least one littler one. However, like the old saying – size doesn’t matter – it’s what you do with it that counts!!!!!! All the shops, big or small sell a wide selection of products available. If they don’t have what you want in store ...

Not my TOP DOG FOR MUSIC

Advantages: Selection
Disadvantages: Price

...IT ALL? ~SELECTION~ HMV has a wide variety of products. In the Leicester store alone there are two levels. The ground level for games (X-Box, Playstation 2 and Playstation amongst a few others such as Games Cube and Nintendo 64). The main people who hang around in the “underground” are teenagers with far too much pocket money to spend. Also on this floor are the “other” items which can include anything; posters, DVDs and ...
...me but the lighting in HMV is weird. The lights are quite normal but are then backed up with surreal pink and purple lighting around areas, which make up the same lighting used on juke machines. Others are just in pitch black so not exactly the friendly enticing image I would assume they’d want. The layout is pretty poor in my opinion; yes all the same music is in the same areas but vinyl’s look like they’ve been dumped and resemble ...

The best selection

Advantages: A good range of CDs. You will be able to pick up semi-obscure stuff here. (I found it to be the only place who'll sell Weird Al)
Disadvantages: More costly than Virgin. Queues are badly arranged.

...they are slightly better than HMV and very much better than the awful Our Price. Fairly often, though, I find myself trudging out of the Virgin and down to the HMV which is conveniently only two stores down. The HMV is nearly as nice as the Virgin store. It is just that the blues and purples of HMV tend to give their outlets a darker (and I feel, more cramped) atmosphere than the brighter tones of Virgin’s yellows and reds. The HMV in question is ...
...I did say Heavy Metal. HMV has a number of shelves filled up with Heavy Metal CDs! I know (and it is great!) that harder, better, music is on the climb again. This is partly thanks to movies such as the Matrix making use of the adrenaline inspiring tracks, the increasingly number of commercial Boy Bands that only 14 year old girls want to listen to and a sadly lacklustre Indie scene. It is also thanks to HMV’s wider selection of music. In short: ...

Hot Money Variety

Advantages: GREAT Variety
Disadvantages: Sometimes Shockin' Prices

Even though my local HMV is a very small one it still has nearly all the variety that it’s bigger brothers and sisters have. It has a range of all different kinds of music, all formats of games, videos, DVDs and posters. Bigger HMV stores also stock clothing but sadly my local store doesn’t have this available. The different kinds of music it offers are Rock, Punk, R+B, Garage, trance, Pop, Hard House, Acid House, Rap, Indy and more. ...
...go for Rock music and HMV are not bad for supplying new and old albums of bands that aren’t that popular in the rock world nevermind the Pop world. But with good news comes bad news, these albums come with not so good prices. The game section in the store near me is very limited. It still has all the formats but most space is taken up by Playstation games which is a disadvantage to other non-PSX gamers and I’m one of those disadvantaged ...

A dog in more ways than one.

Advantages: A very good selection, excellent layout, spacious well appointed premesis, superb 'Urban' selection some fantastic bargains to be had in the sales.
Disadvantages: Some non-sale items are eye wateringly expensive, staff not so good with ordering or finding stock, occasional staff levelling problems, very little in the choice of alternative music formats eg SACD , not so good for rock music.

I've been using HMV since 1976 after my father purchased a Music Centre (years behind as usual) and the first album was an "Abba" compilation. At the tender age of 14 I never bothered with prices then. Since then almost thirty years have elapsed and I have been thorough the phases of checking out indie dealers, Japanese Imports, CD's, Japanses CD's and now Remastered CD's and Hybrid SACD's. In that time my music has always been Rock-though my tastes ...
...of LP's Cd's etc in HMV during that time. Well, the thing to bear in mind with HMV is that it is a near opposite to Music Zone as you can imagine. Firstly, you have a clean, tidy , spacious air-conditioned premesis which is comfortable to shop in. Then the stock is divided up into logical sections and very clearly presented. Then there isthe range of stock which covers Rock and Pop, Dance, Hip-Hop, R&B, Classical, Jazz, and Chart music. DVD's and ...

A Great Choice To Browse Through

Advantages: Good choice of music, good vinyl selection
Disadvantages: Prices above average

The HMV store in Chester commands a large place in one of the busiest parts of the main shopping area. A few doors away is Virgin and for one moment you may think this means lots of competition and good prices. Well, no actually that does not seem to be the case. We all know that in rip-off Britain we pay too much for chart CDs and HMV and Virgin/Our Price seem to have a cosy near monopoly which holds prices up. It is an odd thing but the market ...
...My observation would be that HMV Chester seem to be finding it increasingly difficult to find the ones who have a wide, broad knowledge of music. Too many times they have no idea where to find things and on more than one occasion I have been given a vague wave of the hand and told ‘It’s in there somewhere if we’ve got it’. It would be interesting to know how many people go into a music store knowing what they want, can’t ...

Nothing cant be found cheaper elsewhere

Advantages: Good range of products
Disadvantages: Expensive

Although both HMV and Virgin etc to my experience all offer a great range of music and products, I find that for the convenience you end up paying a considerable amount more. If you're just browsing for the latest tom ten single then there is little difference between stores, especially during the usual 99p offers on first week releases desperate for a 'Number 1' (which is my opinion means very little these days). For albums they have a great selection ...
...go to the stores like HMV is get numerous different items under one roof i.e. T-shirts, Posters, Magazines, CDs, Videos, DVD, Concert Tickets and even mobile phones, but to my experience if you buy the items individually elsewhere the saving can be considerable. Concert Tickets can be particularly expensive, with bookings fees of up to 2.50 per ticket where as smaller independents only charge one pound or 1.50. On the plus side, HMV staff have always ...

SOUNDS FOR ALL

Advantages: good value, plenty of choice, nearly always in stock
Disadvantages: Queue area no good, lighting a bit poor

His masters voice HMV to you and me is well known in most city areas, and ours in oxford is no different. The store is set in the busy city centre on cornmarket street. opposite you have the virgin store. My husband and myself often purchase cds and videos and favour the hmv store in preference to the virgin store. The price wars between the two stores is not alot of difference in our area as the do battle for our custom. Over the years the store ...
...in a mauve and blue design and although clan it does not make the shop stand out but is restful on the eyes. The outlay of the selections instore are very neatly classified with rows of neatly labeled shelves (like reverse troughs) on the walls and pillar areas they have headphones so you can listen to various cds and select different tracks. The range of the cds goes beyond what is instore as if you do not find what you want it can be easily looked ...

High Music Value more like

Advantages: Lots of music to chose from
Disadvantages: High prices and unhelpful staff

...out of your head the HMV is good value for money. If you think this, you’d better start to take real notice of what I’m saying. “I know, I’ll buy a single for £2.99, even though I’ll only listen to it a handful of times and then it’ll be out of the charts before you can say Charlie Brown”. Oh dear. To buy a single is bad enough anyway, but to get it from HMV is worse. Download it you fool! Audio Galaxy is ...
...old albums there are £5.99. HMV will charge you the most for any product. Playstation Platinum games are always £20, when you will easily find them in any other shop for £15.99 or even less in swap shops. The staff there are hardly bothered either. Ask any one of them where you could find a certain album and I guarantee you’d get the response, “Oh.. erm… I’m not really sure actually….. erm…*wanders around for a ...

getting it right

Advantages: varied selection and good sales
Disadvantages: cost

It might look as though HMV is one of the best places to buy your music and especially videos.( at the minute) However what happens when the sale ends? I am definately not normally a fan of HMV, mainly because it seems as though their music is a fair bit dearer than everyone else, even the chart stuff seems to be expensive. It is clear to see though that they are a store for the enthusiaste with a wide selection of music types, as well as formats ...

IMPROVED HMV Opinion

Advantages: Sale, Some Prices, Shop Layout
Disadvantages: Some Prices

...-Music- In my local HMV the music selection is very good. You have the wall full of the Top 50 albums, with listening booths with new releases and the Top chart albums. They also have separate sections for different types of music, like Dance and Grebe music. They stock old and new CD’s, doing this on top selling singles as well. They also stock Mini Discs, tapes and spoken word. The prices (normal) are average/moderate. They do, do some great ...
...-Video- My HMV offers a great selection of videos. They have been divided into these sections: Kids – all the kid’s favourites Comedy – very BIG selection New releases – all the newest releases TV Sets – from all the TV shows – E.R. to Bad Girls Series of Videos – from Friends to WWF XXX Rated – not for the faint hearted and something that shouldn’t b allowed in the store, little children ...
