...them, I started with the HP 560C in 1994 moved up to a HP 870CXi in 1998 and then this beauty in 2000
I have had this printer for a year now, and have put it though its paces well and truly....it is very kind on both the tri-colour and the black ink Cartridges....
Setting up the printer was very easy, being able to run on a conventional printer cable or linked via a USB cable ( as in my set up), printing is very fast and with Photoret III near ... ...your own personal area at HP on the web and once registered logs every time you change your ink cartridges, this is a useful feature as it gives you feedback on how many different types of paper you have printed on and how heavy or light ( cost effectivess) your particular printing is......
I have to say that the overall quality of the printer is excellent, and will print on any media up to A3 or slightly larger, and with a special slot at the back ...

...Only ever buy Epsom, Never HP or Lexmark - because of the cost of ink. So when i started my new job as a design engineer, and i was given one of these printers with a monstrous cost of ink, i inquired why we didn't use Epsom. I was told i would see why soon enough..
so i soldiered on - and it occurred to me that up to this day i have not changed a single cartridge...it has been 11 MONTHS!
11 Months without a cartridge change, and they only cost ...

Advantages: A3 & Photo printing in one machine, catridges last ages, Disadvantages: Cost of cartridges
A lot of printer for your money. We chose this one as a A3 printer first and formost for black and white plans, but as it turns out it is also capable of excellent glossy photo prints. Has been in daily use for a year with no problems at all. In actual fact it is currently being used for document print outs as well at the moment because our laser printer has packed up! The text quality is easily up to standard for important contracts. Be warned about ... ...about half an hour, with all the settings on high quality. Normal printing is as quick/slow as any other inkjets I have used. The ability to feed card or very thick paper from behind the printer is welcome.
With only three buttons on the front panel with very obvious functions and with the trays and slots for different paper well marked I doubt you'll look at the manual again after the printer has been set up, we haven't. Because it is so versitile ...

Advantages: Quick and good quality Disadvantages: a lot of space required
I bought this as my previous printer (HP1110) packed in. As a family we have had an A3 printer for a long time as both my brothers and I needed one for Design and Technology projects at school. I am still using it for the projects and this printer has easily printed 50 normal quality A3 pages off in a row with no problem.
It also prints B4, A4, B5 and letters plus anything upto 13X19". The quality stays the same no matter what size of paper you ... ...than on A4 paper.
It is easy to set up, plug the USB into the printer and your computer and Windows will auto detect it (Windows XP). There is a CD with maintenace stuff on but mine was corrupt and I have never needed it.
As the printer is USB the transfer is a lot quicker and unlike my old printer it does not use all of the CPU while printing, in other words, I can do other stuff while it prints.
Compared with my previous printer the print quality ...

When I first purchased this machine I was impressed with its price in comparison to its competition. It took me 10 minutes to hand over the cash and it took 20 minutes for it to break leaving me in a quandary. Should I get my cash back or get it replaced?
Being a student at the time I could have quite easily returned it and gone to the pub on the way home to drown my sorrows but I decided to get it replaced and trust it would not happen again.
... ...sheep because the newer one never caused me the same complaint. That is not to say I haven't had any, due to the high levels of printing my course demanded my printer never had a rest.
If you’re a bit partial to magenta (as I am!) then paying for colour cartridges can be very pricey so it might be an idea to seek a printer that has individual cartridges if you’re that way inclined.
Another attraction to this product was the fact that it printed ...

...quite an achievement.
Using HP Photo Glossy paper the results can be described as identical to the original scanned image. I print a lot of cars, from scanned photos and from a digital camera, and the representation of these cannot be faulted. Even reflections on the body work of vehicles is accurately represented.
If I have one niggle, when the printer starts up and sometimes when drawing in paper it sounds a bit clunky in my small room. Noise ...

...to install using the supplied HP Printer CD, which includes all the drivers and software you'll need. There is a choice of having either a parallel or USB connection (the cables are not included), this really is just a matter of ding on what type and how many connections you have.
Printing is fast and easy, there is a choice of three different quality levels (even at the lowest quality the output is good). There are several different software features ... ...The average price for an HP black and white cartridge is around £20 and £26 for a colour cartridge - this may seem expensive, but they last for a considerable time and I prefer to buy the proper brand to ensure compatability. The printer also features a width sensor that ejects the sheets if they do not match the size specified in the print settings (this can be disabled).

I have never had a problem with either of the printers I used as they were very reliable, I can't even remember getting a paper jam! It is incredibly easy to use and a dream to set up.
Bewarned that this printer is not suitable for a small desk as it is a bit of a beast. It has a large footprint (approx 40cmx55cm folded up or 60cmx55cm opened out). If this is not an issue then ...

Advantages: Price. A3 printing. Ease of Use. USB and Serial Ports. Quietness Disadvantages: Cost of colour cartridge. Physical size. Little else.
I've owned this printer for a while having replaced an Epson 440. I use it for everything from digital photos to CAD drawings and it hasn't let me down so far. It is far quieter than the old Epson, build quality is good and print quality as good as anything i've used, including considerably more expensive printers and plotters in my office. I prefer it to an HP2600 A3 printer at work, the only thing missing being network capability.

All in all an ideal home or office printer. The extra flexibility that A3 offers is well worth the (small) additional premium over A4 models. ...
