Advantages Advantages Cheap to run, excellent quality

Disadvantages Disadvantages Cartridges are not cheap, but last for ages

My experience of the 870Cxi is all positive. I bought it as an ex-display model just as the range went out of production (about 3 years ?), and although I only use it at home, it`s seen quite heavy use. Plain text output looks as good if not better than many Laserjet`s i`ve seen, and the graphics can be great (see below). Because it uses a liquid dye based ink, areas of heavy print or large areas of colour can be prone to make the paper curl slightly as it becomes damp, but it`s not usually too noticeable. One partial solution is to take the damn print and simply paperclip the ends so it makes ... more

    Advantages Advantages Fast, Clear printing

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Cartridges expensive-ish

I actually didn't buy this printer, but was given it by my dad when he got a new one himself, and it replaced my HP690C. What a difference between the two. The speed of this printer, compared to any othe inkjet I've used, is excellent, especially for just text printing but even graphics as well. Also the print quality is top notch, with text appearing as if laser printed and graphics well defined and without 'bands'. Being a HP the cartridges are fairly expensive, but even so they are only a couple of pounds more than the opposition and I think it is worth it. I would recommend this printer ... more

    Advantages Advantages None at all

Disadvantages Disadvantages cant take different mediums

I bought a HP Deskjet870cxi about a year ago and have had no problems with it until last month while trying to print onto envelopes.I generally use the printer for one of pieces of artwork which I then get colour photocopied. I am a photocopier engineer and think that the feed path on the printer is not a very good design. The paper is picked up then fed around 180 degrees to the print head. This poses a problem when I try to feed different mediums and yet on the smaller printer which seemed to have the same system, I could feed more than 300 gram card for business cards. The problem I now ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent all round printer, very reliable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Papaer path means that printing on heaveier paper could be a problem

I've had my Deskjet 870Cxi for nearly 10 years and it is still going strong. A couple of months ago it stopped picking up paper properly but I just cleaned the rollers and it is working great again. This is the first time I've had to do any maintenance. The print quality is good and when printing on glossy paper it is outstanding, even though the technology must be out of date now! I use it regularly - I bought it when I was a student so it got a lot of work then, it's had a rest for a couple of years when I went travelling but now I use it daily as I run a couple of small businesses. Part of ... more
