...side, new printer cartridges for HP printers are very expensive, costing upwards of £20 each in some places. However, cheaper refilled alternatives are available and some places nowadays refill your old cartridges for you if you take them in, so this is worth bearing in mind when you come to change them.

Warnings given by HP and other service companies, about non-authentic ink cartridges voiding the warranty are entirely unreasonable. If the cartridges don’t work, simply swap them out. The print head mechanism is in the cartridge itself, so if that fails it is a fairly independent matter. This isn’t true of all printers, though; so don’t take it as read.

Hewlett Packard’s support for the printer is excellent, and if you have the Adobe Acrobat PDF reader, you will find all the manuals on-line here: http://www.hp.com/cposupport/manindex/hpdeskjet921701_eng_man.html including international versions and supplementary documentation. This is also the location for finding up-to-date, and Windows XP, drivers.

One of the high quality HP printers around, DeskJet 990cxi is an excellent A4 printing machine I would definitely recommend for either home or small businesses. The print quality is excellent, with crisp and realistic colours (provided the printer is correctly calibrated, of course…), and the process itself is rather fast and quiet. Considering all the aspects presented here, I think that HP DeskJet 990cxi is very versatile and good value for money; if you are looking for an affordable good quality A4 printer, I highly recommend this ...

...Featuring a special optical sensor, HP claims that this printer saves money in printing costs in the long run as it able to detect paper quality and adjust print quality automatically to match the print media.
The 990CXi has taken a slight deviation from what one usually expects of the DeskJet family in that it is an odd combination of cream plastic upper section and grey plastic lower section with an even stranger translucent silver window mounted ... ...the tray at the base of the machine (approximate capacity of 150 sheets of A4 paper) and ejected just above into the paper output tray. During printing, pages are held for a few seconds on a special bracket to allow the ink to dry before falling onto the paper tray as normal. There is also a slot provided for manually feeding envelopes - a function which works quite well on the 990CXi. In the very bottom left corner of the front of the unit is a ...

Advantages: Quick, quiet, and effective. Awesome print quality.. Disadvantages: None found to date.
...ended up opting for the HP deskjet 990cxi. The deciding factor was the auto 2-sided printing feature, though all the other elements fell into place as well..definition, footprint, speed, noise levels, price (I paid about £240) etc.
What I hadn't realised was what a brilliant choice I had all but unwittingly made! Fast? Superman where are you now? Quiet? The British Library Reading Room couldn't complain. Quality of output? Well...I reckon that with ... ...96% that of photographic printing.
But the best thing of all...the one I hadn't though much about except that it might be quite a nice add-on...is the two-sided printing. I've been banging out proofs of leaflets of such high quality that clients have assumed that these are the finished item, and when I tell tham that I can make changes on the spot before they go to the print shop...well it's a damn good thing jaws don't make a mess when they drop! ...

Advantages: superlative print quality, duplex unit Disadvantages: odd shape!
...my latest addition - the HP DeskJet 990Cxi would live up to expectations.
A few months ago I purchased a digital camera (having finally decided the quality started approaching a 'proper' camera) and have been amazed by the on-screen reproduction of my images; so when my friends and family asked for hardcopy, I set about looking for the right printer to do the job.
As luck would have it (so I thought), I was about to purchase a colour laser printer ... ...of inkjets. They recommended the HP 990.........
........so I looked at some sample printouts from a local dealer, and bought one.
Anyway to the review:
The printer is a high resolution (2400x 1200 max), 4 colour inkjet. There are two cartridges - one black and one multicolour - always the best choice, as black made from three other colours is washed-out or grey.
As standard, the printer supports duplexing - FANTASTIC for such a cheap printer ...

...mode and is great on hp photo paper for printing out photos and the like. It is very slow in best quality but when printing drafts and text based pages the paper flies through at about 17ppm as quoted. A module on the back allows double sided printing but this is not always useful as it takes a good 30 seconds extra per page and it is just as easy to turn the stack round and print alternate pages.
In 3 years I have had no mechanical faults with ... ...give the printer a good clean with a flash wip to remove ink which has coated the inside of the printer and which eventually gets on to printed pages if left to build up. Print cartridges however are very expensive at £26 for a 19ml colour and £50 for a 38ml although on ebay they are much less. The only real downside is the quite big bottom/top (depending on the orientation print margin and the lack of border less printing which can be quite annoying ...

I have had this printer for a good number of years now and it has been a good workhorse for me. For office use I cant imagine a better inkjet, I havnt had to do a single bit of maintanence on the printer since I bought it, just change ink cartridges, it just keeps going and going.

Although I have used many in the past, this is the first inkjet I have actually bought, and I am mightily impressed and being a graphic design professional, I have demanded a lot from this product.
The printing iself, using drop-on-demand thermal technology, goes up to a resolution of 2400x1200 dpi and is of a very high quality. Everything about this printer seems very well thought out, there's nothing annoying or irritating about it, and although the print cartridges come are a little expensive, they come with new print heads, which is always a big advantage.
Although not cheap, a very worthwhile buy, especially for professionals. ...

I've bought two of these for work. They are fast and reliable. Print quality is excellent too. Can't really fault them I'm afraid. Also, they get a great write up in PCPro. Have a look at the review on their website.
Another good feature is that it can also print double sided automatically. This is a great feature, it saves paper and helps keep documents smaller. If you want to print artwork I would go for something like an Epson Stylus Photo. These ...

Used this printer now for 2 years or so,
