HP LaserJet 1010 Printer Printing is a huge part of my life. Studying at university right now makes for lots and lots of printouts. Whether it is lecture notes, essays or hundreds of pages of journals, my printing needs are massive. My inkjet just could not cope with the amount of work I needed to churn out, so I headed to my friend at The Computer Shop to get a great printer. When I would use my inkjet, each black cartridge would set me back around £15, and would only last me a couple of weeks. Advantages very fast, 8mb memory
Disadvantages quite big

Ok so finally deciding to opt for a mono laser rather than another colour inkjet I decided to go online and shop for the newest and funkiest on teh market. I ended up at PCworld- being the kind of person I am, shopping online just isn't good enough sometimes when you want to touch and feel the product! After bending the poor ear of a very unsuspecting sales assisstant he recommended this one as it was the newest out. His other option was sumsung similar version in the same price bracket.. I have to say though the Samsung is prone to paper jams- and how do you know this? I hear you ask- well ... more

Tired of Expensive Inkjet Refills 30/01/2005

Disadvantages No USB cable supplied.

Since the purchase of our computer back in 2001, which came with an colour Inkjet printer, we thought it was the bees knees. Until you start to add up the cost of the refills. Anyway the Inkjet gave up the ghost recently, and since we mainly printed either web pages or letters, felt it wasn't worth while getting another Inkjet. After searching websites and doing our own comparisons, based on cost, performance and refill cost, we found that the Hewlett Packard Laserjet 1010 was a very good all rounder, (in print anyway). Advantages Fast, Fits nicely on desk, software is simple
Disadvantages Power cable is big

This printer really is one of the best printers that have ever been made by HP. It has a very unique design that allows it to look tidy on any worksapce. When installed and a print job is sent throught you will start to hear the printer pick up the paper within 8 seconds. The different parts of the printer all fold up and for into themselves for example the paper tray folds up to meet up with the main printer meaning that their is no need for the paper to be top loaded so this means that the printer has the ability to sit tight agasint the wall. Advantages Good Prints, Fast, No Warmup Time
Disadvantages Non Refilable Toner Cartridge, Prone to Jam

In my companies front counter we used to have an old samsung laser printer, the main good things about it was that the cartridge was unscrewable so the toner could be refilled and it gave good prints but the downside was that it takes almost 30 seconds to warm up before you can print, and thats everytime if you leave it idle for more than a minute. Because of this the boss bought the HP1010 printer. To start with it was great, quality was outstanding, very quick printing, easy to use, no warmup time. Advantages cheap to buy and you can pick up cheap carts, good quality
Disadvantages not really designed for high quantity printing all at once

The quality of print is good and it's a nice smart design. The print speed is probably average, but you'd expect that for a small spec printer. I would definately recommend it for a home or small office. However, if you are intending to do a lot of printing out, I would suggest a more high performance printer, otherwise you'll have to swap the cartridge a few times as they are rather small and aren't designed for that purpose. The cartridges are about £25 for a compatible one and about £35 for a original one from my own experience. Which isn't too bad seeming though some inket cartridges are ... more

This little bombshell is cheap (a little over £73), reliable, simple to use and after almost a year of heavy printing it hasn't given any trouble what-so-ever yet. One small problem I have with it is that it is an HP and my past experience with other HP products and service hasn't been good, but I'm hoping they've changed their outlook on service. The toner is very economical and I would recommend this printer for both office and private use. So far I'm very impressed. The software does not warn you when the toner is running low so it is always a good idea to have a spare. A front paper cover ... more

As a student, I found out that it involves a lot of printing, especially text. I had a Lexmark inkjet which was frankly rubbish. I thought about buying a laser printer for the purposes of printing out large swathes of text. I bought the cheapest one I could find (poor student and all...) which was the HP 1010. It was one of the best purchases I have bought in a while. It still gets daily use. The printer is modern and fits in well with other equipment, its footprint is quite small too.
