...when we unpacked our new HP LaserJet printer. I checked everywhere, no sign of a USB cable. Perhaps a mistake at the factory? The box the printer came in details what should be inside. No, no mistake, this printer comes without a USB cable. After the initial annoyance, I am in two minds about that. OK, people who have a computer at home are likely to have one or twelve USB cables already, from previous printers, etc. And I hate waste, I hate that ... ...I said this yet, the HP 1020 is a monochrome printer).
So with a scanner sitting on the desk, our colour printer, an old-fashioned (not flat screen) monitor, and quite a bit of clutter too, space is at a premium. Laser printers are usually quite big, but this one measures 37cm by 24.2 cm and is 20.9 cm high, barely bigger than our inkjet. It looks quite nice and well built, and weighs considerably more than our other printer.

Advantages: Compact, Quick, Reliable, Good quality, Cheap Compatible toner Disadvantages: Official HP toners expensive, No cancel button
The HP LaserJet 1020 is a simple and compact black and white laser printer from HP. It superseded the LaserJet 1010, 1012, 1018 model s but as it has been out for quite a while, has itself been superseded by the LaserJet 1022 and maybe the LaserJet P1006 models, although mine is still going strong. The printer chassis has two shades of light greys and the body is quite curvy. It is small enough to fit in a book shelf, which is where I have mine. ... ...is easily found on the HP website, as I've found when installing this printer at work without the CD. It only has a USB as a connection option and even though I would have liked a network connection, I can't complain for the price. The toner is easy to load into the printer by lifting the top cover like most other printers. Paper is also easy to load and I've not had any problems with the printer not picking up the paper like I occasional do with ...

Advantages: prints fast and clearly, good value Disadvantages: it's basic - but that's why I bought it!
*I love this printer*
It's not flashy, it's not portable, it only does black and white and it doesn't do anything amazing. What it does do is churn out lots and lots of paper fairly fast with good clean printing. PC World took a little time delivering it to me (but they told me there would be a delay and refunded the delivery charge off their own bat, which I appreciated. On their site it also told me I needed to buy a USB cable, but I had one anyway.)
... ...at following instructions but I had this out of the box, set up, plugged in and printing the test page in about five minutes. It's only got a couple of buttons and most of the time it all prints out with one click of the mouse from my computer, so its not at all difficult to operate. My only gripe that the on-off swtich is round the back of the printer instead of on the panel on the top of it - not the most accessible place if you want to save space ...

...about this.
Cost
The HP LaserJet 1020 cost me £99. My old printer is the HP DeskJet 5440. This cost me £69 and the black ink costs me around £15 and the colour costs me £15. That’s £30 to change the ink. That is off a website on the internet. It costs £25 each from a shop e.g. Pc World. So £50 to change my ink, the printer only cost £69. If you are looking to buy a printer, buy a laser jet. The toner lasts much longer and costs around £40. You ... ...many more Laser Jet printers.
Paper
When you are using this printer always use paper that is made for Laser Jet printers. Different paper is made for different kinds of printers. If you buy some paper for an Ink Jet printer and use it for a Laser Jet printer the paper could be out of line and print funny. Another thing is that the paper might jam in the printer when printing. More than one piece of paper could go through the printer and it print ...

Quick review of HP LaserJet 1020
This product is great. I can print 200 pages in short time. About 2-3 minutes. The driver easy to install. I suggest you to not throw your driver to trash bag because you will get difficult when installing this printer on a new installed windows.
This printers work well in Linux. I used HP 1020 CUPS driver to make this stuff work. I think the toner will empty on 3000 pages printing. ...

...research I settled in for HP 1020, due to various resons, especially its compact size and print quality.
Installation was pretty easy, and it was up and running within 10 minutes of unwrapping it from the box.
Its usb 2.0 and 15ppm was good enough for my usage pattern. Holds 150 sheets on manin tray.
