Advantages Advantages Very portable 12.1", DVD/CD-RW drive, not too slow, many extra features

Disadvantages Disadvantages Over heating can result in hardware failure, surface marks easily

"I have now had this laptop for 3 years, using it for my college and university work and entertainment for many hours every day." Good points There are many other places to read the spec, I originally choose this laptop because it was powerful and quick for its size and I managed to get a good deal. I found the 12.1 inch screen to be a very useful size, and the laptop is small and light enough to carry around in an ordinary rucksack. The tx1000 is easy and comfortable to use and does everything is want it to. The computer has a AMD Truion 64 x2 1.90 GHz processor and 2GB RAM. It is capable of ... more

This Notebook Features a full suite of multimedia,The underlying hardware here is quite good. The Nvidia GeForce Go 6150 graphics handles Vista's glassy Aero interface and its 3D desktop objects well, even though this GPU uses shared memory. All of this power does require some cooling. The upside of the touchscreen is that you can use your finger to tap oversized buttons, such as the embedded HP QuickPlay interface for multimedia playback.A webcam sits at the top of the lid for video chatting. Nice feel and options but poor in use. Battery life with reduced brightness under 2 hours (very poor), system often seizes up, and there is no fax function in MS Vista Home Premium so I need my old XP computer around just to do this. Touchscreen is great but it reduces sharpness of the screen. Ability to use as flat panel (invert screen/pc to analogue tv/pc to lcd tv) very very good but the processor and Vista does not run well on this computer. Wifi connection takes ages versus my children's Vaio Vista pc. Value for money decent but speed/durability/portability poor. ... more

November 2008 My TX1220us is 13 months old and has probably had 40 hours total use in the last year. Currently it is being fitted with a new motherboard which will cost me $400 - this new motherboard will still contain the original design flaw & will probably fail in a few months! HP Total Care do not want to know! Do not take my word for this type in ´TX1000 serious problem´ into the web & see for yourself what the 1000´s of very angry TX1000 series owners have to say about that expensive ´paper weight´ you are contemplating buying!

I've owned one for 1.6 years. The CPU overheats and stops working after about a year. The problem is documented here: http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadI d=1268501 This product is defective.
