HP 5300C SCANNER ~ ~ The HP 5300 Scanner gives you all the added benefits of a top of the range scanner, but at a fairly affordable price, at least for a HP. Quire a few changes and extra features are available that weren’t on the 5200, but if you think you can live without them, then you’ll most likely be able to drive a good bargain on an old 5200 model. There are a fair few of them still knocking around in stockrooms. Beware however, ... ...Then compare it to the HP 5300C. Even under the lid it’s far more impressive than its competitor’s models. You wouldn’t buy a cheap plastic camera and expect to get award-winning pictures from it, would you? Advantages: Easy to set up and use for photocopying, picture digitalisation and OCR Disadvantages: I’m bordering on obese and still can’t work out how to use the fax facility.
...if I remember rightly – HP wanted to charge me – so I didn’t bother. It works well with Textbridge as far as I can remember, as this was loaded on computer 1 which died 2 years ago, and my software disks, CD-ROMS etc are in storage – somewhere.
Anyway I will keep this op quite short compared to some of my others. I still haven’t worked out how to use the fax. It got a bit complicated and as I didn’t need it, I didn’t bother – it is probably best ... ...of this scanner– typical of HP products. I like the way I can move it from computer to computer as the family upgrades its machines, I don’t like the sticky out buttons on the front, but I do like the idea of a negative reader, for all those lost photos of times gone by – yet I haven’t used it yet and again it is in storage somewhere…I think this is a good basic scanner with a number of additional features and would recommend it you have the space ...

...to go along with my Hp P1000 photo smart printer, so I needed one at a good price, but which had great quality scanning, and I found it. Everyone knows that Hp can be a bit pricey, but for around £130, this has to be worth it.
It has a max resolution of 2400 x 1200 dpi (dots per inch), and this is ideal for enlarging pics and still keeping the quality in the picture. It is quick and as you can save the pics as jpegs, and other file types, it does'nt ... ...the hard drive.
This HP scanner also cames with very good and easy to use software, which allows oyu to edit the scanned picture, print it, and you can even make up photo albums.
The only downfall is that you can easily tap the buttons, and it will start to scan when you dont want it too as they are quite sensitive, so you will need to watch out if oyu are interested in this for home use.

The HP products are renounced for reliabilty, quality and reproducibilty and are not always cheap. However when I found the HP scanner of my choice HP5370 it appeared to have the same technical sppecification and features as a similarly priced EPSON 1240U Photo, BUT the HP is at least £55 cheaper!! This is strange! If anyone can give a true comparison between these 2 scanners:
HP5370C v's EPSON Perfection 1240U Photo
They are both ... ...have film./slide adapter to scan negatives too!
Both have OCR, 4 instant buttons etc to e-mail, file, copy etc
both have included software
HP5370C is around £165
EPSON 1240U photo is £200
Cannot understand the price difference, is this Epson significantly better? I have an EPSON colour printer so thought it'd be easier to go for an Epson scanner too. My main interest will be scanning photos and negatives. THese models may be obsolete now or ...

Sorry This has gone under incorrect heading. I am not talking about Hewlett Packard as stated but RELISYS ECLIPSE scanner - so apologies to any whose time has been wasted.
This is the opinion of an absolute novice to the world of scanners.
I am now the proud owner of a Pentium 3 computer. As part of the deal I also purchased a scanner. The original scanner provided was not compatible with the computer and unfortunately had to be changed. I say ... ...I don't intend using a scanner for much more than photocopying work it probably would have suited me better than the Relisys one I now use.
For all you computer buffs out there, the Relisys' specifications are:

Advantages: Easy to use Disadvantages: Dust under the scanning glass
...of the scanner is the HP logo along with the model number. On the front of the scanner is a pannel that has four blue buttons on. They are used as shortcuts to scan, fax, copy and email. I never use them, but they can be quite annoying if you knock one and it loads the scanning software on screen.
Ease Of Use
The scanner is easy to use, just click scan and your away, although it does have a few annoying features, like scanning in black and white ... ...you decide taht you want to save it, you have to re-scan the picture all over again. Scanning an image takes about a minute.
Problems
I have had the scanner for a few years now and it has not broken yet although there has been a build up of dust under the scanning screen, but this hasn't appeared to affect my scans too much.

...have connected it upto a HP scanjet 950c printer and when you scan a picture in and then print it out the quality is fantastic it is nearly as good as a professional picture.
Great way to send out family pictures to all the friends and relatives as a Christmas card.
I haven’t used the negative printing facility yet as most of my negatives are currently stored at my Mum’s and will not come to my new home until the house is finished as I would rather ... ...As the description from HP says it can also scan multiple pages and it is easy to link it upto a printer for quality printing.
If you want a slim line scanner then this is not the one for you, if you don’t mind a bulky machine then you may want to look at this one as I have no real complaints about it at all ...
