4 Stars Portable computing - iPAKing with a punch Review with images 01/06/2008

    Advantages Advantages Powerful, fast, sleek

Disadvantages Disadvantages Getting programs into the system

iPaking with a Punch = I have had my iPak for about 2 years. At first I had difficulty switching over from using a written filofax to the iPaq. The beauty is that the calendar diary on this is absolutely fantastic, it remembers, and it lets you know when you need to do something. My biggest difficulty and I suppose a bug bare I have with it is that it's hard to get programs for the iPaq. I have in effect what came with it along with a few I have bought from the HP site. Another problem with it is that its really hungry on power. I find it runs down its charge quite quickly. Its important that ... more

    Advantages Advantages Everything

Disadvantages Disadvantages Speaker isn't loud (Not that it matters)

I've been using this for some time now, and i gotta say its one of the best devices i have ever seen and used. Starting off, is the screen. The main threat to any PDA is its screen - HP took great care of this and has included a flip screen protector on (Which can be removed, though it doesn't annoy me at all) It also has a great screen resolution - especially for movies. Secondly is the battery life - I could play music (using the freeware TCPMP, full volume, equaliser and used mp3's from a SD Card) for around 10 hours plus - note if you turn off the screen, use the device memory etc it will ... more

Advantages Advantages Powerful, Full of Features, Mobile, persistant storage, good communicator

Disadvantages Disadvantages Standard Battery not the best around, has a technical problem (resolvable)

Well I bought it at Christmas 2006, put it on charge and began loading up all my contacts, calendar entries, wifi settings and games. The next morning, it was dead. And I mean dead, it wouldn't switch on, it wouldn't charge "oh no" I thought, "I've been sold a dud!". After some assistance from HP we discovered that I had a faulty power supply at home and after reconciling that, was able to charge the ipaq. "So why did it go flat?" I hear you think. Well, the problem is a known one and is easily resolveable with a simple download from HP. When the unit is switched on it works fine, add an SD ... more

Advantages Advantages Large screen; excellent battery life; easy to use wifi and bluetooth

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bulky/heavy in pocket, not all apps work with Windows Mobile 5 yet

I bought this model because I wanted wifi for internet/email access on the go, and bluetooth to link to my mobile phone. The HX2490 has both and they are ridiculously easy to set up. The wifi connection takes a few taps of the stylus and bluetooth is even easier to turn on and off. Importantly the iPAQ clearly lets you know when either or both are on and it's easy and quick to turn them off again. Once I started exploring the device I was amazed at all the software and features compared to my old Palm based PDA. The Media Player in particular is great on long flights (I put some movies on an ... more

Advantages Advantages Sturdy, good software, smooth link with Pc, fast, all features needed for a pocket Pc

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Alarm problems

I bought my HX2490 from e-bay, fully boxed and unused. When it arrived I was pleasantly surprised. I had always been a palm user, and had decided to come across to Hp because of the ease with which word and excel documents will transfer onto it. The weight of it makes it feel like a quality product, and it was also good to have all the buttons where you can see them straight away without having to flip down the bottom like I did with the palm. Because I use my Ipaq in a busy retail environment I immediately bought a metal case for it. I also added an SD card to add to the memory. All the ... more

    4 Stars ipaq hx2490 06/06/2007
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Lots of features and wi-fi/bluetooth

Disadvantages Disadvantages A little expensive and bad battery life

I bought my PDA from ebay, for a discount price; I didn't want to pay a lot of money for a PDA and I wanted a really good one. The hx2490 comes with Windows mobile 5.0 which is the newer version of the windows CE operating system. The processor is slightly faster than it's predecessors and has wifi and bluetooth aswell. This means that you can quickly use any wireless station and hook into that network, or transfer documents to your phone or computer for example. It comes with a USB charger and a protective cover as well as many other cool gadgets like the docking station. I use my PDA every ... more

Advantages Advantages Everything you need in the palm of your hand.

Disadvantages Disadvantages You have to remember to keep it charged as much as possible

At first I just used this purely to add a navigation system, which works great. It's fast and because of the screen size just a quick glance keeps you on track. Though very quickly I got to know the complete system and I love it. I use it as a mobile access tool for anything I need. I used to always have a small diary in my bag that I wrote all my important dates and info in. Together with my mobile phone I had all I needed to be organised and in touch. Now with the iPAQ I have all that and more in one user friendly piece of equipment. It certainly beats lugging around that huge laptop! I ... more

Advantages Advantages Great Shape, Fast Processor, Good range of Programs Available for Use

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slightly Large! Quite Expensive!

Nice piece of work... Another great turnout from the biys in Hp techno. I'm pleased, trhey must be. A truly well made piece of kit! Now, I know HP a good reputation for these PDAs, and that each one should really be judged on its spec, but this range of PDAs, the Hx", is a great range from HP, and a good chioce for anyone looking for a professional PDA, with lots of good spec to it's name. Its easy-to-use and had the great Windows Pocket PC 2003, which should be respected, very much so in fact! Great Chioce of PDA, if your not looking for a Palm, and there are lots of good reason to mind(have ... more
