MY BACKGROUND “””””””””””””””””””””""""""""""”” ” I recently experienced ‘Sod’s Law’ first hand . I had paid into a health scheme for donkey’s years but ,having changed job recently, had let my membership lapse . I had renewal forms but ,I just never got round to filling them in and sending them off . If I had paid my subscriptions through my bank it would not have been a problem . However my monthly payments came out of my salary at source so there you go .I had only claimed for costs towards spectacle and dental treatment over the years with a rare claim for being a hospital day case patient ... more

Hospital Savings Association, I think that’s what HSA stands for (thanks aefra) I’ll explain the basics first so you can get an idea if it’s the kind of thing that you would benefit from, to be honest I don’t think there is anyone that wouldn’t benefit. I will also touch on a few other plans that have different uses when people become ill or have an accident. Firstly, HSA ‘IS NOT’ private medical insurance. Private medical insurance is where you pay a monthly or yearly premium to receive private medical care, either by means of consultations or actual treatment. It generally covers most ... more

What is HSA? HSA is a different concept to health care and is a non-profit making organisation. HSA stands for the Hospital Saving Association. With the raising costs of health care HSA may provide the answer. For one weekly payment the whole family (spouses and children up to the age of eighteen), can obtain financial help for any number of medical treatments, through the HSA SuperPlan. HSA will pay a tax-free sum of money covering both the member and their family if they require allergy testing, an in-patient stay in hospital or just a simple visit to the dentist, or optician, plus eighteen ... more

Advantages Advantages Pays for glasses and other things

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none really

Having realised that over two years ago I mentioned HSA in one of my reviews, I thought it was time to jot down a few words about them. They are simply a scheme that pays out whenever you have to spend money on health related treatments and services. I joined several years ago by going to the website and signing up. There are several levels of cover that you can choose, I opted for the middle level that costs me £16 per month. For this level of cover I can receive £30 per night that I spend in hospital, £110 per year towards opticians expenses, £110 towards dental treatment, £150 for ... more

Advantages Advantages cheap, flexible pricing plan - you chose

Disadvantages Disadvantages pays only 50% of your costs incurred,

You may have seen these leaflets by HSA floating around at your local dentists or GP's surgery. Whilst this is not exactly a private health care plan, it is someway inbetween, starts at as low as £2 per week for a limited amount of cover. So how does it work? You are covered for about 15 different faculties, dentist, optical, osteopaths, chiropodists, physiotherpy, day-patient at hospital, long-stay at hospital, accident, pregnancy, etc When you need any of these treatments you go along to your local parctitioner, have and pay for the treatment yourself, then claim back 50% of the cost from the ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages havent found any yet

If you pay when you go to the dentist or opticians and you havent joined HSA yet it is certainly worth giving some thought to. HSA stands for Hospital Saturday Association. If you are under 18 years old it would be wise to get your parent to join as you can join free under the age of 18 on their cover. If you are over 18 no matter how much older there is something for you to gain by joining. What you do is just telephone them on a freephone number (0800 072 1000} and they will take the time to explain all the different plans they do and you can arrange things over the phone or they send you ... more

Advantages Advantages My typing has improved massively writing so many letters

Disadvantages Disadvantages Where do I begin???

My experience with HSA have included the following a) Initially happy to take payments but then when you want to claim they want to see this record, that record, these x-rays (yes you have to pay your dentist for these to be released), those x-rays, previous records, notes etc! - The company should ask for this up front rather than waiting for you to claim and then just making it unbelievably difficult and totally inconvenient. b) Taking too much money from my account. Fair enough they refunded it but only once I sent them a bank statement. - They claimed they couldn't find the over payment on ... more

Had 2 treatements 1on 4th Feb 2009 and 23rd March 2009 and am still waiting for claims to be paid, after phone calls, letters and emails asking where the money is. Dentist has sent in records etc and still no claims settled. Very bad service. Have taken complaint to Insurance Ombudsman now. They owe me approx £500 and I am leaving them. HSA Dental Plan will find all sorts of ways NOT to pay dental claims Disadvantages: 3 months trial period, demand to see Dental records , refuse to pay if you see a Dental technician for dentures to be made, refuse to pay if you are not referred by your NHS dentist, refuse to pay if they feel (no proof) they think your dental treatment e.g. dentures are for cosmetic purposes Advantages: NONE
