Happy Students Banking Company

Advantages: Great service, online, phone or in person banking
Disadvantages: As usual, low interest rates for current accounts

...a day on placement at HSBC (and skip school in the process) I jumped at the chance. It was a fun day – we got to play with lots of money, and stamp cheques and watch videos, and most importantly, we got to meet all the staff, most of whom were lovely. At the time I was unhappy with my current bank and looking for a change, so decided to open an account here. A year and a half later, having just got my A Level results, which confirmed that I ...
...port of call would be HSBC once more, if only because it would be the easiest place since I already had an account with them, and so didn’t need to provide proof of my address and other mundane details. ** What You Need ** To be eligible for an HSBC student account, you must be 18 years old or older, and be enrolled on full time undergraduate course in the UK that will last at least 2 years. This course should be a Masters, Bachelor, HND, HNC, ...

Home for Students Banking Clever

Advantages: Good for students
Disadvantages: Might not be as good for workers

...mainly on my experience with HSBC as a student bank, although I am now a graduate. I cannot comment on their service for those in employment because I am not. I first joined HSBC in 1998, when I became increasingly frustrated with NatWest. NatWest had extremely dodgy terms regarding student overdrafts, meaning that you could have an agreed overdraft one day and they could take it back the next because their limits are extremely temporary, usually ...
...So across the road to HSBC I went. They asked for 3 months worth of statements (because I was already 2 years into my degree course and they wanted some indication of my spending patterns), as well as proof of my identity and permanent address - namely a passport (you could provide a driving license if you have one), and a bill/grant letter. You may also have to prove that you have been accepted into a University so keep hold of that acceptance letter. ...

...my advice check out what HSBC has to offer you. They offer a first class service and are supportive during some of the most difficult (financially) years of your life. MY HISTORY WITH HSBC I chose HSBC for my student bank account when I started my degree and I feel it is the best thing that I ever did. The facilities/services that they offer are the best on the market. They provided me with an INTEREST & FEE FREE overdraft that gradually increased ...

UPDATED 180101-Best service for STUDENTS

Advantages: best student service ever
Disadvantages: lack in benefits in certain areas

...is the bank for you. HSBC has long been trusted by students especially from overseas because of their great service. But, since a lot of students took advantage of their service, at the moment, they are pretty strict with their policies nowadays. However, for me, they're still the best in terms of personal banking. I've been a customer of HSBC for 3 years now, and all I can say that their service is excellent, second to none. Their customer service ...
...a call regarding a credit card problem, and they sorted it out within minutes of the call. They also have the best interest rate compare to other high street banks. Their low fees on credit cards are a source of relief to most students. Not to mention the interest-free overdraft facility that they provided, which personally for me is indeed very helpful in time of crisis! :) I also use their phone banking and internet banking, and so far, it's ...

Best student banking company - HSBC

Advantages: Straightforward, helpful. Cash machines everywhere.
Disadvantages: None yet - But i will let you know!

...had a problem with my HSBC account, the staff are without fail friendly and helpful - especially when you are a skint student worried about going over your overdraft! I have found their student banking service excellent. The most useful part I have found is the Switch card - also, they do automatically approve you for a Mastercard which is useful because it means you get a credit rating. HSBC gives first year students a £750 overdraft, which increases ...
...The main attraction of the HSBC student service was the free 4 year (yes, FOUR YEARS!!!) railcard. This is worth £80 to start with. This can be a lot of money - I reckon it's saved me AT LEAST £70 this year! Other banks might give you cash - usually about £50, but it just disappears into your student loan or other money, and you just forget about it. The rail card is definitely the best incentive I've ever seen. Another huge plus was the forms I ...

16- 18 account

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

you really cant knock HSBC's 16-18 account, they will give you a cheque book and a solo card without any hassle which is great. the solo card works as a cash card as well, which has a P I N number to access it. Cheques go through the system quick, both ways, ususally within 24-48hrs, this has been done always without any hassle, solo card hasnt failed me once. When paying for goods in shops, the solo card checks your balance before allowing the purchasing ...

HSBC Premier

Disadvantages: Qualifying Criteria

...supposedly benefit from them! HSBC Premier has been a worldwide service for many years. Being the second biggest bank in the world HSBC has honed and expanded Premier Service to become one of the most prolific banking services today without the major costs that Private banking entails. Its criteria are threefold. A mandated salary of £75k or joint of £100k. Savings/Investments of £30k plus or a mortgage of +£150k. By meeting one of these criteria ...

For one, you have no credit history in the country being moved to. How many times have you been told to hire a TV or electrical appliance so that you can eventually generate a credit history so that you can apply for a credit card or similar credit facility? Current & Saving Accounts

Advantages: Excellent Customer Service
Disadvantages: Low current account interest rate

I banked with HSBC for the past 5 years and their interest rate on saving accounts (e.g. Instant Access) has slowly declined. Their current account interest rate is a measly 0.1%. Seeing many other banks with higher interest rate, I was hoping HSBC to follow, but so far, nothing. Now I have joined Alliance & Leicester Premier Current Account (2.12%AER) and PlusSaver Account (3.75%AER) and I do not regret it one bit. I am much happier. The process ...
...what competitive interest rate). HSBC customer service is the best I have experienced. No matter which branch I visited, they were always courteous and professional. Even after I told that I did not choose their mortgage because I found a better deal, they were still polite to me. If you are the sort person looking for a personal banker, face-to-face service, can perform bank services within branches and not too bother about low current account ...

A good bank account

Advantages: Very large range of products, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Can't think of any

...very quickly, either from other HSBC accounts or those from other banks or building societies. Whenever I've telephoned the branch (well - it's a central service centre) they've been polite, friendly and efficient (and not seemed to be 'reading a script' to me like some places do). I recently signed up for their Internet Banking service and this is also excellent. I'd recommend an HSBC account to anyone who wants access at all hours to their money, ...

Nice big overdraft

Advantages: Large overdraft, longer overdraft term
Disadvantages: None that stand out

I moved to HSBC (Midland at the time) for the large overdraft and Graduate Loan with the Graduate Bank account. My original account (I won't mention names) wouldn't give me a Graduate Loan, due to 'too much reliance on my oberdraft'. HSBC were a lot more accomodating and accepted my overdraft and also gave me the loan, which I needed for a car to help me find work. Regarding the overdraft, I have learnt from a colleague that some account only offer ...
...no complaints, and life with HSBC has been easy sailing. I can't say they are better than any other account, because I have never ran into any problems, but that in itself says they are good. I have been using the TELEPHONE BANKING for some time now. I found it easy to set up, and it is very easy to use. I, myself, mostly use it for checking my balance. I have only recently started using the ONLINE BANKING, so can't add an awful lot. I lost my ...

Current account yes, anything else no

Advantages: good current account esp. student account
Disadvantages: hassle sorting out things that go wrong

...chosen not to go with HSBC when setting up my savings accounts and not to use any of their other services. The current account has always been good, with a larger interest-free overdraft than most of the other high street banks through my student years – up to £1500 in my final year. Some of the freebies are pretty good - there was a free railcard (back in my day) worth at least £50 if you’re on a 3 year course. My debit card and credit ...

Thumbs up for students

Advantages: good overdraft, free gift, graduate package, service with a smile
Disadvantages: THE PENS NEVER WORK!!!

...little in the future and HSBC had thought of it on the beginning. I get to keep my interest free overdraft for a while (it reduces slowly) and theres options of a loan and financial consultations as well as considerations about a mortgage. All things I will be thinking greatly about when I gradute. So what was the free gift? Well there was the choice of two: £50 or a four year STUDENT RAILCARD (1/3 off all train fares). I like to get around a bit ...
...My only gripe about HSBC is the fact that whenever I want to write a paying in slip, the pens never work!!! Can somebody please do something about this? Finally I would like to thank HSBC for having employees that always seem happy to see me and quick and efficient to help me get my banking done. Yes I know that they're getting money off me but service really counts and I appreciate it. ...

HSBC student account

Advantages: Good rewards for banking with them, lots of HSBC cashpoints to be found. Good overdraft facility
Disadvantages: Some banks, such as Lloyds charge you for making a transaction from their cashpoints

I opened an HSBC student account in September, when I began University.Currently, when you open such an account with this branch, you get the choice of recieving either £50 cash,or a 4 year young persons' railcard, which entitles you to 30% off travel by train. For a student, the £50 cash will,no doubt,be spent in the student union. However,a railcard means that you can travel all over the country at a discounted price. Personally,I opted for this, and ...
...only aspect of banking with HSBC which I have found to be helpful. Many of the HSBC cashpoints allow you to withdraw £5,where as most banks do not.As a student, this is very convenient, especially when you are finding your way into the £750 overdraft, which is,of course, another benefit of the account. In fact, the only problem I have had with this account is that they originally sent my switch card to the wrong branch, but, hey, nothing's perfect!! ...

HSBC CALLING ALL SKINT STUDENTS

Advantages: Good overdraft facility and credit card scheme
Disadvantages: Dodgy call centre ploicy

...I have found banking with HSBC is when you want to get in touch with your local branch you have to go through the rigmarole of going through a central call centre before you get redirected to the branch you want to talk too which can take quite a lot of time and waiting in queue’s. However I have found banking with HSBC quite easy and trouble free experience over the last couple of years. However when opening a student account make sure you look ...

Students this way please

Advantages: Big overdraft and loads of cash machines
Disadvantages: instant access to cash allows potentially disasterous overspending of student loans!

I've been banking with HSBC (or Midland as it was known then) for the last 5 years. Having recently entered university i upgraded my account to a Student account. This required one quick, simple and hassle free trip to my local branch, and the staff sorted out the rest for me. When opening the account you receive a Switch card and Mastercard, and chequebook and guarantee card (if you dont already have these). You also get the option of either 50 pounds ...

In all the time I've been with the bank, I've never had any problems, and have found the offers which thery send very useful eg. discounted student insurance. ...
