    Advantages Advantages Great choice

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Administration

I was really sad to hear the news recently that Habitat is yet another casualty of this horrible recession and that it has had to close its doors due to administration. This was my favourite stop for everything home related and I often found some very good bargains there as well as some highly priced items. In generally though I thought this was quite a good value store and I'm surprised that it did go under. Habitat was founded in 1964 by Terence Conran and according to an article I read, he has said the main reason for the shop's initial success was that Habitat was one of the few places ... more

    Advantages Advantages Some good stuff

Disadvantages Disadvantages All style, no substance

How to be a cool middle class couple in one very easy lesson.... Anonymous, asexual, androgynous, assymetrical, angular, antiseptic, artistic, aspidistra (sorry, but I was getting bored....) Habitat is a store that you go to when you're a very cool and trendy couple who want some marvellously sparse black and white ornaments for your chic newly wed pad in the country. It's a sort of air conditioned IKEA store for Little Englanders everywhere and like IKEA it shares that very cheap and nasty, irrelevant feell. Things are very snazzy and impressive on the surface, but do you really need a ... more

Advantages Advantages Modern Furniture built for todays home life

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive

We recently bought a shelving unit and a Dining Table from our local Habitat store in Chester and at the time we were moving homes. We had moved out of our old house and living with my parents and we had stressed that they were required by the 23rd of April 1999. We then found out that are house move in date had been moved to the 26th of April 1999 and so Habitat had an extra couple of days unknown to them to get the furniture to us. At 8am on the 23rd of April the furniture arrived at my parents house (the correct address) and the delivery men were very careful in handling the furniture and I ... more

Advantages Advantages Very nice, modern products

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor customer service

I always used to love going into Habitat, dreaming about what my future home would look like with that sofa. Oh, and those chairs, with that table, and that cutlery set. My imaginary millions dwindled before my very eyes. But in reality, I only bought the odd small knick-knack – I am still but a poor student! Yet Habitat came to the rescue when I needed picture frames. I decided that I would be better off buying picture frames to save my newly decorated walls from the relentless torture of sticking up and ripping down posters. Habitat had just the ones… 70x100cm Frameless Frames ... more

Advantages Advantages If you like it, it is nice

Disadvantages Disadvantages Approximate construction, VERY difficult to assemble. Wrong cuts.

We recently bought a couple of items from the Aspen range: shelving unit and sideboard - for the non-negligible cost of GBP 1747, incl. delivery. Very positively impressed by helpful staff and swift delivery (4 working days from order). Disaster stroke as we had to assemble our flat-packed furniture. Right ... it's not Ikea, but you still need to assemble it, ok ... and you paid more ... so it must be better ... mmmmh The cuts are very approximate. One element was cut upside down. Two missing wooden spines, which I substituted with a pencil I cut myself. The various components are extremely ... more

Advantages Advantages Great range of stuff

Disadvantages Disadvantages Easy to over do it on the plastic!

You can furnish your home by either visiting Habitat or by looking through the Habitat catalogue. Habitat provide cool stuff for cool people. It is not cheap. But it is still good value for money. "How can that be so?" I hear someone ask. Because although a Rolls Royce has a high price tag, there's not many people who would decry a Rolls Royce because it did not cost the same as a Mini. Habitat do have everything you could ever possibly need. Luxurious sofas, fantastic wall hangings, great kitchenware, wonderful cutlery sets, marvellous dining furniture, fab beds, cool lighting. The list ... more

Advantages Advantages Well it's supposed to be a British name

Disadvantages Disadvantages Talking to managers, overpriced products, little spark

From talking to other shoppers and the many, many people who have at some point worked at Habitat and moved on quite quickly, it seems Habitat are low on ideas. As for my personal experience, trying to order products in store was a nightmare. I tried to get answers from a manager or assistant manager or sales manager (lots of managers) but they didn't seem to know what they were talking about. I feel a lot of what they stock, particularly furniture is expensive for the quality you get. As nice as they look on display, they are not made as well as the price tag suggests. I think they have only ... more

Advantages Advantages Let me think ......

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Dark Dingy Dated

I used to love Habitat style and always used to pick up the catalogues when they were available from the news stands. However, over th last few years gthey have really gone down. Can't put my finger on whether it's the products themselves or the store which is the most local to me; Leeds. Let's just say that Habitat is not one of the shops I dash to when I'm in town any more. I do find Habitat style a litle dated now I suppose, if I am honest, and I feel some of the prices they charge are a bit over the top. I cannot resist making the obkigatory comparison with Ikea of course; the latter ... more

Advantages Advantages A Name to Impress

    Disadvantages Disadvantages too Expensive

Habitat are bright interesting stores in most big cities. Their goods range from furniture to glasware.,rugs, pictures, cutlery, oils and herbs. crockery and pans, useful gadgets, house linens and lighting. it is all very modern it is also always on the dear side. You can get similiar stuff in Ikea at one quarter of the price. If you want to impress buy your gifts from habitat but if you want value shop arround. You can pick up bargains in their sale. i would not recommend you to go to habitat if you are looking for value for money. They do deliver it takes up to about 8 weeks for some items. I ... more

    Advantages Advantages none

Disadvantages Disadvantages appalling service but even worse, after sale is humiliating. Very low calibre staff.

I ordered a sofa on the 8th of January 2010. I ordered it directly to the store on the phone. The tottenham court road barnch in London. This turned out to be the worst of the worst shopping experience ever. The delivery company Habitat uses is basically run by incopetents that claim to do 'logistics' but in fact are a bunch of cowboys. I waited 11 weeks for the delivery and when the driver finally arrived, he did not even attempt to load the sofa into the lift of my building. Instead he said that Habitat should have instructed to send 4 men rather than 2, so that they could have taken it ... more
