    Advantages Advantages Contemporary Style

Disadvantages Disadvantages Service not the Best

Most people will of at least heard of Habitat, the furniture store opened in the 1960’s by Terence Conran. They were the first furniture chain store to sell contemporary designed items, and opened many stores across the country. Unfortunately there are not as many stores left open now, but they can still be found in major towns and cities. Although in Hull, where I live, they closed down in the 1980’s, I think this is also true of the Liverpool store. Surprisingly I believe the company where bought by Ikea a few years ago, so they probably use the same designers now. What Habitat ... more

Advantages Advantages I can help you save money!

Disadvantages Disadvantages You may hae to wait for an offer to come around....

A little insider’s review of Habitat! So, as some of you may know Habitat is owned by Ikano-the same company that owns Ikea. It was established in 1964 in London, and has now become an international brand with stores all over the UK and Europe, and now has franchised branches in places such as Dubai, Thailand and Turkey to name a few. It focuses on beautiful and stylish products, and on the whole, in my opinion succeeds in this. The main objection most people will have is the price. Habitat is not intended to be a high street retailer, it is an upmarket shop....open any specialist home design ... more

Advantages Advantages city centre equivalent of IKEA but classier and more durable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Complaints system is dreadful, customer service is poor

Well, I am a home-improvement addict. I love Habitat as a rule. It is everything right about the world in what it sells, it is the staff and sales system that fail it. Habitat is the ultimate in snobby interior stuff! It sells everything from candles to glasses to cushions to tables and chairs. There seems to be a Habitat in almost every city and although not cheap it sells VERY nice products. Everything is very trendy and colourful. I have been shopping there for as long as I can remember - even before I was able to pay for it myself! But this op is not about all that is great in Habitat, in ... more

    Advantages Advantages Funky & stylish

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be expensive

Habitat is really one of a kind - a national chain store selling contemporary home furnishings. I say national, but the stores can be few & far between, & you may have to travel a little way to find one. We used to have a branch in my hometown of Hull many years ago, but by the time I reached adulthood & was in the market for some modern home funishings, the store had gone. It's becoming increasingly evident that no-one wants anything decent in my town... But I do have a couple of branches within approx. 60 miles of my home, & I visit them both several times a year. I love the stylish products ... more

Advantages Advantages good design; modern and stylish

Disadvantages Disadvantages not enough stores, a bit too expensive for everyone

Habitat stores offer a wide range of modern household items - nothing about their design is cluttered or fussy. There are both modern classics and things which are more daring. It's also a good place to get gifts for people - they even offer food items such as pasta and olive oil in presentation bottles. Their items are well priced (in the mid range) and they have plenty of options for smaller houses. Somewhere like Heals, for instance, has furniture for much larger houses than mine. The atmosphere in Habitat stores is infinitely better than somewhere like Ikea although it is more expensive ... more

Advantages Advantages its a nice sofa if i ever get it!

Disadvantages Disadvantages staff are rude, unhelpful, including the managers! Delivery times are very inconsistent

I have been left very disapointed and angry with the service i have receievd from habitat. Over these last few months i have spent over £1000 in habitat but i am now very reluctant to shop there ever again. You can get some beautiful things from there and great furniture but the hassle you have to go through and the way you are treat is totally not worth it. I orded a sofa, i was told it would be delivered in approx 4 weeks in store however it did say 6 weeks on my recepit. It has now nearly been 9 weeks and i havent heard a thing. Terms and conditions say that i should have recieved an ... more

Advantages Advantages Nice and often unusual homewares

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor stock control, delivery and customer service

As a rule I like Habitat products. They are generally well designed and different from the usual furniture and homewares available from other high street shops. However their stock management, delivery and customer service is very poor. I have been trying to buy one of their rugs since October and it is constantly out of stock. I finally got a delivery date only for this to be cancelled at the last minute, again due to lack of stock. I still don't have my rug. We also have friends that had their wedding list with Habitat and refuse to shop there now as they had such a bad experience. I think ... more

Advantages Advantages some good styling in some products

    Disadvantages Disadvantages expensive, attitude

The experience of going in to my local Habitat store is not unlike having teeth pulled. I should firstly own up: shopping is hardly my favourite passtime, but my real niggles with this store are the prices, attitude of the staff and the products (so pretty much everything!) The store Habitat have been around since the sixties and have a chain of stores in larger towns and cities in the UK. They display their modernist wares in room settings, a little like Ikea but without the benefit of the false walls. They sell a variety of furniture, beds, office furniture, lamps and linens. The attitude ... more

    Advantages Advantages gimmicky

    Disadvantages Disadvantages overpriced

Most of you, I am sure, would have heard of Habitat. The store which was opened in the late 60's by Terence Conran to bring a new breed of shopping to the high street for contemporary items for your home and furnishings. Different and innovative it probably was during those early years, but now I think it is a bit shabby and overpriced. I visited one near Slough and found that the ideas were similar to other outlets such as B 7 Q etc. The glasswares that were on prominant display were not really of good quality, many of them having blemishes of one kind or another. The furniture appeared as ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great products

Disadvantages Disadvantages Treat their customers like scum

Where do I start? I like Habitat's design like most of the people here, but their customer service is abysmal. I purchased four Flame chairs on 30 Nov 2006. When I unpacked them one was damaged, so began the frustrating and painfully slow process of getting it replaced. After hours (literally - the phone-back system at the TCR store does not work and no-one has the authority/inclination to action anything when you finally speak to someone) on the phone, visiting the store at no little inconvenience, speaking to a variety of charming but ineffective menbers of staff, waiting for phone calls ... more
