Halifax sharexpress uses a nominee based system, this means that they hold the shares in an account for you rather than sending certificates out by post, in my opinion this is a far superior system as shares can be bought and sold on any trading day without the need to wait for certificates (can take up to 1 month with some brokers). Best of all the price they quote is the price you end up getting, whether buying or selling, so when the contract note comes it normally says what it should do and the value of your trade hasn't suddenly decreased in the post. ... I have to admit that halifax has done me alright most of the time. But not allways. I have had a couple of problems with them the most significant being when they confirmed a deal at the wrong price (much higher than market price) not that I was complaining at the start. not a bad broker. access to site can be painstakingly slow at times even with a good isp. no chance of getting through at first few minutes of trading. access to new issues is non existent on net in my experience, may get to buy some over phone but involves little higher charges and slower by which time stock ahd risen significantly. some stocks on AIM can be unavailable at times unless stock becomes highly traded after many journal tips again by ... The website itself is a bit slow, but its very user friendly and always has the most used links down the ledthand side. I have never had any problems with the service, they have always done what they say they will.
