When Good Phones Go Bad

Advantages: A nice idea
Disadvantages: A dreadful alround performance

My life is very odd one day I can be working from 6am-12am, the next day I might not work at all. A priority of my life is timing; most work I receive comes to me via e-mail. Whoever gets the e-mail first is the one that gets the job. It can be very trying losing out on 8 or 9 jobs just to complete 1. I figured that an ideal way for me to access e-mails and the internet on the move was to buy a PDA enabled mobile phone. I went into The Link, I was ...
...swore by the Treo 600. He spent great time explaining the complexities of the phone. How the phone can suit everyone's way of life. And the cracking sales line "It's not small, but it's not big" was used, the assistant seemed proud of this revolutionary statement. I never quite had the heart to scream "MUPPET!" in his face. But I did go on his recommendation and purchase the phone. It cost me £99 sim free, which at the time seemed like a steal. ...

So much more than a phone

Advantages: convenient, expandable, wonderful device
Disadvantages: high charges for data transfer, some niggles with the software occasionally

...a good deal on a Handspring Treo 600 and I had to have it. I haven't been disappointed, it's brilliant. The deal I got meant I get the phone for free although I have to go onto a high tarrif (£45p/m) for four months to achieve this. I'd hesitate to claim that smartphones are necessarily the way of the future - not everybody wants a computer in their pocket. I've often heard people reeling off the features of their new mobile to be met with blank ...
...make and receive calls, yeah?" If that's all you want out of a phone, that's fine but some of us would like a lot more. The Treo delivers. Around a year ago I upgraded my basic phone to an SPV, extending my Orange contract and while it was a natty little device it wasn't without its flaws. The camera, for example, is becoming a very common feature of mobiles and with the SPV it wasn't built in but snapped on, removing the convenience. You could ...

Best of Both Worlds

...intensive research he discovered that Handspring have joined with palm and have brought a device out which is a combined mobile phone and PDA. With this new device called Palmone Treo 600 you have the best of both worlds because it is a phone along with a PDA (personal digital assistance or hand held computer for short). We purchase the phone from Micro Warehouse for £387.74 including Vat. The phone has an address book as all phones do, but it has ...
...means when you enter details into the PDA contacts, that’s all you have to do because it links up with the phone and information you enter is in both sides. It has a Querty keyboard like a computer and if you’re not so good at typing like my husband its great news. He has told me! When it comes to syncronisation once you have read the instructions and installed the software it is nice and easy. The only part my husband is disappointed with is that ...

Everything you'll ever need

Advantages: All in one with a great touch screen
Disadvantages: Bulky and heavy, no MS office products

I've been waiting for this product for years. O2's XDA came close, as did the Nokia Communicator but this really is everything you'll ever need in one easily portable format. The keyboard is tiny but you soon get used to it. For ease of use, the phone can be operated from a touch pad on the main screen. This is great for people like me who hate fiddly buttons. The screen is fantastic as it is large, wide and clear. It can be used as a touch screen ...
...easy to use. The organiser functions sync with Outlook and can be easily navigated using the included stylus. You can email(POP 3) using the QWERTY keyboard. SMS and a built in camera are also standard. The camera really only works well outdoors but you'd expect that from any camera without a flash. The resolution is really only suitable for MMS and not really for recording your holiday on. There are many other features such as an excellent calculator ...

Treo 600

Advantages: Lots of functions
Disadvantages: Larger than normal phone

I've had my Treo 600 for about 5 months now, obtained direct from Orange to upgrade my Siemens SL55. So, i've gone from one of the smallest handsets on the market to what is probably one of the largest. Why you may be asking, well... I was due an upgrade and had been thinking of buying a PDA for a while so the Treo appeared to kill two birds with one stone. I contacted Orange and paid £99 upgrade fee and my Treo arrived a few days later. First ...
...never get the hang of this'. I did keep hold of my SL55 for a week or two just in case but soon got to grips with the Treo. Now the size doesn't bother me at all. I find the full qwerty keyboard to be easy to use and the 5-way scroll button is ideal for access to the many functions of the thing. Being basically a Palm PDA the are loads of applications available for the Treo including games, MP3 players, picture viewers and many many more. On registering ...

Mobile office?

Advantages: Small for a PDA, good features
Disadvantages: Radio quality, big for a phone

I have had a Treo 600 for 4 months, since their early release on the Orange network. Overall I have found it to be reasonably robust and reliable. I am now on my second handset, as the first treo was continually turning of the GSM radio and eventually decided to turn itself off and not come back to life. The second treo has had no such problems so I suspect this was just unlucky. Overall the range of applications and features is similar to most ...
...access all available. The only feature that is obviously missing is bluetooth, which would have been useful for use with generic bluetooth car kits. Battery life is very good, I talk frequently and often go for 4 days without recharging the battery. The case that is supplied with the treo is little use, as it restricts the use of the device without completely removing the case. Overall this is a very good buy if you are looking for a smartphone ...

People laugh at me - my friends can't understand it. It's 2004 - phones are getting smaller every day and haven't had aerials for years....so they can't get their heads round my Treo 600!! Yup - it's large (still not as big as my original Nokia Orange in 1995) and yup - it has an aerial - but what exactly do you expect for a phone that does everything.... I spend a far bit of time abroad and wanted a phone for email and web access primarily and ...

But, if it still doesn't do what you want it to do - then down load the program to make it do what you want it to do! But, one thing it doesn't and can't do, which is very poor is Bluetooth although this is promised in a future software release and ...

Handspring Treo 600? What you waiting for.

Advantages: Easy to Use and infinite uses
Disadvantages: quite big, and lack of bluetooth

I work for Orange UK and have recently been trialing the Treo 600. Its not really a case of telling you what the phone does, more a case of telling you what it doesn't do - and quite frankley, the only thing of importance is the lack of bluetooth. Although the phone is bulky, the pictures you see make it look bigger than it really is. I have got quite small hands, and it fits perfectly well in them - plus I can quite comfertably use one hand navigation ...
...although resolution not so good, but this really does not take away any of the clarity of the display. I suppose one disadvantage is that it only displays 4096 colours as opposed 65k in most devices now. The keypad is easy to use, though small, but of course, you havethe option of the on screen keyboard or you could use the graffiti system (providing you download the free software) SOund is cgood and clear on both speaker phone calls and earphone, ...
