Advantages Advantages Fast paced, intelligent, twists and turns and revelations like you wouldn't believe...

Disadvantages Disadvantages None, actually. Not even that it;s the last book. Nothing. It was perfect!

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Not a Destination, but a Journey… The End of an Era. For some time now I have had the date of the 21st July circled in my diary. Not another midwife appointment, or a reminder to myself of how many weeks to go till my baby puts in an appearance. No. The golden day that the final instalment of Harry Potter was due to hit the bookshelves of bookshops and music shops and green grocers (yes…green grocers…) the world over. My plan was to get into town early, but having stayed up half the night reading a baby book (Stand and Deliver, review to follow!), I snored ... more

    Advantages Advantages Everything!

Disadvantages Disadvantages You may just become addicted!

Harry Potter Deathly Hallows The hype of the messy black haired boy masked with unfashionable rounded glasses and cursed with a lightning shaped scar has long since hit the hearts and minds of not only those young enough to love the fun adventures of the trio, but also the hearts and minds of us slightly older people who were once perhaps too embarrassed to admit we loved the adventures that JK. Rowling brought to the wondrous pages of her books. After many years, the books have grown larger than life, some say battling the ranks with the great JRR. Tolkein and his Lord of the Rings, and now ... more

Advantages Advantages A thumping final chapter in the greatest story of our time

Disadvantages Disadvantages Like the death of a close friend, there is no more

It feels strange to be sitting down to write a review of the final Harry Potter book. This is for two reasons. One, this is the first review I have written on Ciao for nearly a year and a half, meaning that most of the people who used to read my reviews have now either left Ciao or forgotten who the hell I am. Secondly, my first ever Ciao review back in 2002 was on the first Harry Potter book, The Philosophers Stone. Therefore writing this review feels a little like closing the door on that part of my life and moving on to something new. This is true of the time I spend on Ciao but also has an ... more

Advantages Advantages The usual rip-roaring magical adventure

Disadvantages Disadvantages None - not even the fact that it is the end

The book hit the shelves a few months back, but there were other things to be done…and somehow it felt right picking up the final Potter as the leaves turned and it was back-to-school time again. Only…our heroes are not returning to school. What? Dropping out of 6th form? Our model pupils? Ron Weasley, well yes, probably, given half a chance. Harry Potter, ok, possibly, given a good enough reason. But Hermione Grainger? Not returning to complete the final year. Is this the end of civilisation as we know it? Not exactly. It is merely the end of a seven year odyssey through the life and times of ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent story, lots of plot twists, excellent characters,

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some characters die, its the end of the series

I have been a huge Harry Potter fan since I was about 11 years old. I have a huge Harry Potter collection and I have read all of the books, some of them a couple of times. I was really excited when I heard that the publication date for the final instalment was July 21st 2007. I ordered it from Amazon back in March and was very excited when it arrived last Saturday morning. As I work weekends and my nephew came to stay with me until Wednesday I only finished the book today. I wanted to read each page thoroughly though, to make sure I properly appreciated everything that was happening. When The ... more

Advantages Advantages Fantastically written, gripping, concludes brilliantly

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lots of deaths, it's the last book

Since the age of 11 I have been a massive Harry Potter fan. I remember being introduced to the series when I was in my final year at primary school, my teacher had read the first few pages of the first book, Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone. However, I have to admit that I wasn't that interested, I had assumed that it was a book written mainly for boys! The series hadn't really taken off until a few years later when pretty much everyone was reading them. I was in my first year at secondary school when I was looking in the library for a book to read, I came across the first Harry Potter ... more

Advantages Advantages Well written and fitting ending

    Disadvantages Disadvantages It's the end

I am going to now own up and embarrass myself; I couldn’t wait for the release of this book. Yes I know that I am a 35-year-old woman and usually I don’t go in for anything that has a lot of hype surrounding it but for this book I did succumb. I started reading the Harry Potter series to my son when he was 5 years old and started with the first book The Philosophers Stone, I read him about 10 pages when he decided to fall asleep and I spent the rest of the night reading the rest until I had finished it! I then read the rest of the series and it became tradition that when each book was released ... more

Advantages Advantages A lot of question have been answered

Disadvantages Disadvantages It's the last book, that's it, the end :(

o=[> Before reading this review please note that it contains spoilers for previous books in the series, if you haven't yet read them I would advise you to close my review now unless you already know what happens. I've tried not to give too much away about the Deathly Hallows. o=[> 'Hogwarts: A History' --------------------------------------------------- Things are not looking good for the wizarding world, Lord Voldermort has returned and the only one who he was ever afraid of has been murdered. Now the only hope for the wizarding community is Harry 'The Chosen One' Potter. This book is not ... more

Advantages Advantages A gripping, emotional, extremely well written masterpiece.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

The one thing that concerned me with this book is that I might find out all the spoilers before I’ve read them. This, unfortunately was the case for the previous two books, as I found out who died in them before I got to that particular part of the book. So I tried to speed read Harry Potter and avoid the internet (Hence my recent absence from Ciao). With me being quite the slow reader however, coupled with the fact that although I want to read it fast, I still want to somewhat take my time and enjoy it, it took me a week to read the book. But here I am, one week and three days later, and I ... more

Advantages Advantages An intense, thrilling read in the usual Rowling style

Disadvantages Disadvantages The ending is perhaps a little weak, there will be no more

The chances are that if you're reading this review that you have already made your mind up about whether or not you are going to buy this book. Indeed, this finale to the fantastic Harry potter series will not make a great deal of sense to those who haven't read the previous ones and therefore will only appeal to the Potter-fans of the world. But with such a strong fan-base it's sure to be a best-seller. J.K. Rowling's epic masterpiece has enchanted young and old since the series debuted back in 1997 with Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone. Since then millions of people around the world ... more
