...lightning scar to prove it, Harry is left with his only remaining relatives who despise him. His Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon and cousin Dudley (the Dursleys), finds himself average at school, with no friends, and no idea that he is soon to become an eleven year old wizard. Harry isn't a boy genius like Artemis Fowl. He isn't a fully-fledged necromancer like Sabriel. He's "Harry, just Harry."

...as myself - self proclaimed Harry Potter nut - has yet to review anything Potter related. This is because I love this series so much, I'm not sure my reviews could do the books justice. However, with less than a month to go before Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I think the time is right to try and persuade those who have not read any Harry Potter, that this is something they need to read!

...the boxed set of the Harry Potter books from my friend, and although this review is technically about the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone, I have to recommend that you read them all!
The Philosopher's Stone starts off in a normal house on a normal street. In that house live a family called the Dursley's. Mr. and Mrs. Dursley live there with their beloved son Dudley and an impostor called Harry who lives under the stairs amongst the spiders. ...

Only to your better understanding, I'm from Germany and might improve here my English a little.
Now, however, to the first volume!!!
Indeed many of you will already know the story, because you have read the books and with it also the first volume which appeared in 1997 either already or have seen at least the matching movie. Indeed, I must emphasize here once again ...

Advantages: An absolutely fantastic read for young and old alike! Disadvantages: The first few chapters may put some people off reading on.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is the first book in the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling and is the subject of the soon to be released and much hyped film, with an all-star cast, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”. This was also the title of the American release of the book. I have no idea why the title was changed; it rather insults the intelligence of our American counterparts to suggest that they would not understand the word ...

...with the phenomenon that is Harry Potter by J.K Rowling. There are several books and still yet more to come. There are currently four out in bookshops all over the place. They are:
"The Philosopher's Stone"
"The Chamber Of Secrets"
"The Prisoner Of Azkaban" and
"The Goblet Of Fire".
They have been around for quite a while now but not everyone is as enthusiastic about them as others. I at first was not very fanatical about Harry Potter ...

...in the series of the Harry Potter books. I’d heard a lot of good things about the series, from friends and family, and on the news of course, what with the movie having just come out, the fourth book selling out in hours in bookshops up and down the country, and the fifth book and second movie being ever increasingly anticipated by young and old alike.
Despite the fact that I’ve written a few book reviews on Ciao before now, reading hasn’t been ...

...smiling, “I have the latest Harry Potter book to read” It is true to say that more than one of her colleagues suppressed a slight smirk at this reply. After all, weren’t Harry Potter books just for kids?
This short conversation must have planted a germ of an idea in the head of one of the colleagues, for several months later she was to be found in her local supermarket book section checking out the aforementioned books. She happened ...

...So I began to read Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone. I was hooked, I read the book through in one sitting, and was reading the next one the very next day, but that is an entirely different story!! After 3 days I had read every one of the first 3 and was desperate to read the 4th one, so I actually went out and bought it myself so that I could read it!!
So, for those who haven't read any of these books, and don't know what they are about, ...

...fuss was about with the Harry Potter phenomenon and here I am reviewing the first book. I thought these were books just aimed at children and well I have been proved wrong! I have the paperback version of this and it is also available in hardback. I paid £5.99 for this book at my local WH Smith but I'm sure you can get it cheaper than this online. The price to me was good value for money but if you shop around you can get it cheaper than that.

Michael-S
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is the first of the Harry Potter books and it is about Harry's first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy.
There are four books in total so far (and three more to come) - one per school year. You should always read the Harry Potter books in the correct sequence, which is:
1. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
2. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
3. Harry Potter and the Prisoner ...

Harry Potter grows up at the Dursleys, the family of the sister of his mother, because his parents are supposed to be killed in a car accident when Harry was very young. The Dursleys are very ordinary and the highest aim is to be as normal as possible. But Harry is ...

...seems to be talking about Harry Potter; the papers have articles daily about the hero of the book – but why?
JK Rowling has created a world of fantasy and magic. I would equate her to such children’s authors as Enid Blyton and Roald Dahl. She is a children’s author, but adults adore her. I don’t think l would be going to far when saying l think she’s a literary genius!
I ordered by HP books 1 to 3 from my book ...

...I have never actually read Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, but before you all scurry away to my guestbook to leave rude comments, let me explain. I had wanted to read some Harry Potter to see what all the hype was about, but I never had the time, and when I had the time, I didn't have the energy. So, after my boyfriend reading them and absolutely loving them, he decided that he would read them to me in bed. After hearing the first chapter, ...

The Harry Potter series of books has been given quite possibly the most hype a book has had in recent times. Walk into a bookshop, and there’s the latest on full display. Walk into a card shop, and there are toys and games. In fact, walk into ANY shop, and it’s likely you’ll stumble across some merchandise or other. It seems the whole country has been overtaken by Potter fever. I have to admit, ...
