FROM A SORCERER TO A PHILOSOPHER?
Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - J.K. Rowling by JHPRUSHTON

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...hype was about over these Harry Potter stories. All these people keep proclaiming that because of the Harry Potter stories their children are now readers. I said to myself, "The children want to read? Haven't heard of that in a long time. I loved to read as a child, and always thought of myself as an oddball among my classmates who did not." As curiosity usually always takes over my body, a quality trait of mine…LOL. I decided to purchase the ... Read review

In the night there a big giant who is called Hagrid breaks into the little house. He takes Harry with him and tells him everything about Harry’s real life. Harry did not know that he is a wizard and that a dark wizard killed his parents. Harry has survived and has now a scar on his ... Read review

Amazing
Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - J.K. Rowling by katiefletcher

Advantages: Very funny
Disadvantages: Quite hard to get into

...the first book in the Harry Potter series but found it to be extremely well written and very addictive. I read the entire thing in one night. Ok, I forgot to do my homework and watch all the good TV but it was a good book. I am aching to read the next three books but unfortunately can't get hold of them at the moment. I especially like the idea of the every flavour sweets. The book is hysterical at points and scary at others. You are left wondering ... Read review

His parents were killed when he was a baby and he lives with his Aunt and Uncle and cousin who don’t treat him that well and make him sleep in the broom cupboard! Wizards...Bah
Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - J.K. Rowling by Tribute

Advantages: cool
Disadvantages: wizards....bah!

I first hated Harry Potter. All that hype over a stupid little book about some wizard, I mean, who'd want to read abut that? Me, it turned out. I got my first read of a Harry Potter book on a dark skegness night. My cousin (whom was staying with me) had brought the latest addition to the series (...and the goblet of fire) and I started to read. and I read. And Read. I read until I couldn't read no more. I was just so enthralled with the happenings ... Read review

Where it all started
Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - J.K. Rowling by tjgoss2k

Advantages: it's not an amazingly big book so it's not boring
Disadvantages: NONE!

I got J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter & The Philosopher's just before The Chamber of Secrets came out on paperback which means I was not very quick at getting into the book but then even before the best bits happened I started really enjoying it. The story is about a normal boy, named Harry whose parents died in a car crash when he was little, or so he was told by his horrible Aunty & Uncle who he lives with with his piggish cousin. Harry keeps doing ... Read review

Strange going on in Lime Tree Avenue
Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - J.K. Rowling by anjib

Advantages: A good read for the whole family
Disadvantages: you will need to go and read all the others

Never mind all the strange goings on in Privet Drive with cats sitting on walls, street lights going out and owl swooping around over head, there were strange goings on in Lime Tree Avenue Recently. Picture the scene - car screeches to a halt outside number 71, woman get out shouting "no it's mine not yours", young boy in the back madly knocking on the window as he is unable to open the car door due to child door locks. Mother races round to ... Read review

Advantages: Wonderful for all ages
Disadvantages: I didn't write it

...bargains, I came across a Harry Potter Book Set comprising the first six stories written by J.K. Rowling. As the price was very reasonable, I invested in the collection for my three year old son, who at a later age, I hoped might want to read them. One evening, when I had had enough of UK TV Gold repeats and wasn't in the mood for scouring the World Wide Web, I decided to take a look at my recent purchase. Three hours later I was still reading ... Read review

Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - J.K. Rowling by iamthebest1

Advantages: Great Read
Disadvantages: None

...the book are of course Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley, Hermione Granger and of course The Dark Lord. These are all interesting characters in the book which is the reason that the book is so good. Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone is in so much detail that you are able visualise all of the characters and set out your own scene as to what everything looks like. The book is quite amazing and has many strong points which is why it is so good. ... Read review

Most Overrated Children's Book Ever
Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - J.K. Rowling by explainable

Advantages: Its not very long
Disadvantages: Difficult to keep reading without wishing you'd chosen a different book instead

Harry Potter has been regarded as one of the best set of choldren's books in modern times and after all the reviews that have been given to JK Rowlings work I would have expected more than I found in The Philosophers stone. A lot more. The basic story is promising. A young boy whos parents died when he was young lives with his evil uncle and aunt one day receives a strange letter inviting to become a student at Hogwarts: a school for wizards. As ... Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - J.K. Rowling by heatherlouisewallace

Advantages: harry potter, harry potter, harry potter
Disadvantages: none

Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone is the first in the Harry Potter series. This 223 page book is J.K Rowlings debut novel and it’s absolutely brilliant. I love it, my partner took the mick out of me for a whole year before he gave in and read this book, he has since read the other 4 and watched both films. Before I can review the book let me introduce you to some of the main characters so you understand the storyline a little better. Harry ... Read review

Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - J.K. Rowling by Dasha

Advantages: Original.
Disadvantages: My brain's not working.

Oh Harry Potter this, Harry Potter that, it's all I heard the whole month round, I seriously thought everyone were robots programmed to talk about Harry Potter. Anyway back to the point, is this well talked of book really the big thing, the author of the century, etc? The morning Harry Potter 1 came out, quite a strange sight met me when I leaned outside my window. It looked to me like a swarm of geese floating to be fed, no let me change that, a ... Read review

Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - J.K. Rowling by Mallory

Advantages: The characters and story
Disadvantages: Absoloutely none.

...the hype about the first Harry Potter book I really wasn't interested in it, I thought everyone was just going totally over the top. It wasn't until July of this year during my school summer holidays that I eventually decided to buy a copy and see what all the fuss was about. I was instantly hooked. The book is funny, dramatic, convincing and simply amazing. I have since read the rest of the series and simply can't decide which is may favourite. It ... Read review

What a great book
Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - J.K. Rowling by bigrupes

Advantages: Full of excitement and fun
Disadvantages: Could be seen as a bit frieghtening for younger readers

...the hype about the new Harry Potter book I thought I'd better give them a go. I was not disappointed as they are by far the most fun books I've read since reading the majority of the Famous Five books at Prep School. Harry Potter is orphaned following the death of his parents as a result of "you know who". He is placed in the "safe" hands of his Uncle and Aunt, Mr and Mrs Dursley and their sun Dudley. Unknown to Harry, he has special powers. His ... Read review
