    On returning from my recent trip to France, I came home to find to find two nasty surprises. The first was in my haste to leave I had forgotten to do the washing up and there was a good smelly pile of decaying plates and cups just waiting for an industrial hose. No one else to blame but myself on that one. The second nasty surprise was that my car had been stolen. Like any insurance policy be it home, personal or car the true worth of the policy is only measurable once you have to make a claim on it.     The following story is true but all names have been changed to protect the innocent (and to make sure I have a house to go home to!!) Just after christmas I was driving to spend new year's with my boyfriend at his house in manchester. I set off with my boot loaded up with goodies from christmas - all my christmas presents, a bag full of clothes, my coat, food etc. The journey went fine until I got to within 5 mins of his house.     Over the last decade I’ve been lucky enough to be given a company car. I never needed to worry about paying off car loans or budgeting £50 per hour for garage maintenance. Or having to deal with insurance brokers (and having to go to confession after!). Maybe have the privilege of queuing up for half an hour in the post office to get road tax. It’s a real perk having a company car, we all know Gordon brown takes his kick back, even with gordon's big appetite for a large slice of the cake, without doubt a company car is worth it.     My first car insurance policy was with Hastings and, despite giving me one of the best premium offers I could find, my overall impression of the company is not very high. After about six months of being insured with Hastings I was involved in a minor accident which, it was decided, was a fifty fifty claim. I wasn't too pleased about this as I didn't think it was my fault but what really got to me was the fact that after three months I got a letter telling me that the claim had been settled against me - even after I had been told that both insurance companies involved had decided on a fifty ... more

    I was with Hastings for 3 years but the last year was not through my own choice! In 2011 somebody reversed into my car so I processed a claim with them, My first problem happened a month later (this was about 2 months after my renewal when I was starting my third year of insuring through them) I was on my way home from work when I was pulled over by the police, they told me that I was showing on their database as having NO INSURANCE! I explained to them that it was impossible as I had a claim going through with them at that very time for the accident. They very nearly seized my car but ... more

    My sister had an accident about a month ago when a car pulled out from a side road and hit her in the side.The third party immediately admitted liability and was very sorry,(my sister had her 6 mth old son in the back).That evening the lady in question turned up with her husband to look at the damage and started backtracking.Through conversation they admitted that they had knocked on every door around the crash site but could find no witnesses.     A cheap car insurance that doesn\'t deliver when you need to make a claim. We had an accident which was third parties fault, but was not straight forward (We were stationary, but as we were sitting at a T junction they claimed we drove out and hit them). Hastings decided that it was our fault without reading our statement and settled! We asked to use legal cover to dispute and legal team advised we try to go for 50/50 claim.     Let me set the record straight. I currently have a comprehensive insurance policy with Hastings Direct, for one reason and one reason only: it was and still is the cheapest. Wether you have 3rd Party only, 3rd Party fire and theft or Comprehensive insurance, the cover of each is set by the General Insurance Standards Council (apart from the amount of excess we pay). It's also written in the insurance policy booklet that all insurance companies provide (though how many of us take the time to read these).     When I bought my last car, I shopped around for the cheapest car insurance possible and Hastings Direct came up with having the cheapest quote, so they got my business. My car was a cheap little run around, something to get me from A to B. It was a VW Polo, J reg, 1.0l and cost me £500 in 2002. I decided to opt for Third Party Fire and Theft, and I had the option of paying monthly (with interest) or pay up for the whole year.     Insurance ..... one word sure to strike fear into the hearts of any decent ,honest hardworking man/woman ,Especially car insurance we all need it though how many of us ever really use it and with premiums at an all time high its a mine field of stress and expense out there with companies and there sales reps at your throat like jackles . Every year i use search sites online to check and see if i can get a cheaper quote , who doesnt , it makes sense .
