    In one of my classes at school I had to study Safety. I had to produce leaflets on the following. •Electricity safety •Home Safety •First Aid •Water Safety While I was learning about these topics I learnt things I didn't already know, so I suggest you read this op carefully as it could one day save your life or the life of someone you know, you can never be too safe and however small or unimportant some of these tips may be it pays to be safe than sorry.     Because we can buy drugs over the counter, we tend to assume they are safe. However, any drug taken to excess may not be. Furthermore, over the counter (OTC) drugs differ from country to country - either their active ingredients may differ, or their inactive ingredients (which could cause problems if you are allergic to any).     SET PARAMETERS - Condition your children and animals into accepting certain actions or behaviour as normal, such as staying out of the kitchen while you are cooking dinner for example. Plan escape routes for fire, and teach the children what to do in the event of a fire. FENCE OFF - the areas you KNOW are dangerous.     Right, apologies before I even start this opinion if I offend anyone in any way, it was just impossible to write this one without personal feelings creeping in now and again, you'll understand why at the end.     Hygiene in the kitchen has become a massive issue for me. You can never be too careful when it comes to good food hygiene. The reason it has become a big issue to me is nothing to do with me suffering from food poisoning, as I never have and hope not to but because of my last job. The last job I had was working for Boots Contract Manufacturing. Yes the massive site that manufactures all toiletries for Europe and manufactures drugs for many of the chemists you go to.     I know I’m setting myself up to be shot down in flames here, talking about child safety when I have no children, but I do have a goddaughter, Rosie, who is just 7 years old and her safety in all things is paramount to me. I appreciate that it easy for me to pontificate on the theory when I don’t have the problem of putting it all into practice.     During the first few years of parenthood, keeping your child safe means watching for household hazards - ensuring hot cups of tea are out of your child's reach, that they can't find little things to swallow and that any medicines are stored safely out of the reach of a climbing toddler. Those things are difficult enough. I remember my eldest daughter falling off the bed as a baby, and my youngest cutting her leg open on the sharp side of a tea-chest.     Doesn't matter how old your children are, they could be in real danger. No home is completely 100% safe, how could it be? We take our home for granted as being the safest place our child could be. So how come most accidents that happen to our children within the home or garden? I have experienced two minor accidents with my first daughter. The first one was when she was 5 mths old. She decided to start rolling, just when I had left her for a second on the sofa.
