4 Stars HOT! OFF THE PRESS Review with images 24/08/2004

Advantages Advantages Humorous, down to earth look at the world of celebrity

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive, very light hearted

Heat magazine has now been around for quite some time. Its strapline claims “this week’s hottest celebrity news”. Some people may agree with this, but some may not and I’ll try to explain why later on in this review. This is one magazine that has resisted the temptation so far, to bring out a “handbag size” version, in the way that Glamour and Cosmopolitan have done. This is a BIG publication that is extremely glossy and full of enchanting and not so enchanting photographs of those in the public eye, affectionately known as celebrities. I don’t buy this magazine on a regular basis, although I ... more

Advantages Advantages Loads of pictures lot's of gossip and good fun, excellent TV covergare

Disadvantages Disadvantages Focuses on the same stars a lot week after week some tirivial stories coveed also

I have recently started to read the showbiz goss magazine Heat and would like to inform you of my findings of the product in question. I initially got into reading this magazine on a regular basis at work when the girls in my team were finished with them and sending them to the recycling bin, I was like wait a minute Hear’say are on the cover let me have a look, yes that is how I picked up my first copy Hear’say!! It is a glossy magazine that week after week dishes all the low down on the biggest stars, it does tend to focus very much on the faces of the moment, so each week you may find the ... more

Heat magazine is a weekly look at the "latest celebrity news". Priced at £1.35, this is good value, as you get roughly 100 pages for your money, with very few advertisements. Heat is very much a mixed bag of content. There are interviews with celebrities, features on their homes and lifestyles, cinema and music news features, and lots and lots of gossip. This is true coffee table reading - easily picked up and put down again, you can always find articles to read which reflect the amount of time that you have on your hands. Without clearly identifying itself in any shape or form, Heat is a ... more

Advantages Advantages great, easy, good looking read

Disadvantages Disadvantages a bit obsessed with Dawson's Creek

Heat has to be one of the greatest things to come out of 1999. A magazine which caters for those of us who do not claim to lead alternative lifestyles, who do not want to know the ins and outs of some mediocre football player of soap stars front room, and want to bitch and have a laugh at all thing celebrity. It is like a cross between trashy, helloish type gossip mags, a TV listings mag, a film/book/video/music critique, and a great entertainment interview weekly. It covers all the aspects anyone interested in the entertainment industry would desire. Firstly, I shall not review a particular ... more

Advantages Advantages You don't have to buy a seperate TV guide.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not enough about soaps for my liking but other than that nothing!

This is what Heat magazine claim but do they live up to it! I don't actually read many magazines like this but have read OK and Hello, which this seems most similar to. I was originally buying it because of the Big Brother phenomena and it was brilliant, covering everything you wanted to know, but now the Big Brother show is finished I didn't know whether this magazine would still have anything worth reading in it. On the cover of the latest issue, week ending 17 August, the headlines are "an exclusive interview with David Beckham", "old pictures celebs don't want you to see" and "Helen and ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good TV Listings/Reviews

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too Celebrity fashion orientated

. I used to love Heat, when it first came on to the market it was a breath of fresh air. A weekly magazine with informative TV listings not obsessed by the soaps or written in dumb downed tabloid language. The articles were relevant and informative and were interesting to all. Unfortunately, this has changed as the magazine has become more and more interested in endless articles on Geri Haliwell's diet and what colour Hollywood is wearing this week. Don't get me wrong, it's still a magazine I buy every week as I still find the TV listing section the best available (it previews new shows and ... more

Advantages Advantages glossy magazine, good value for money, TV listings, celebrity gossip, interviews

Disadvantages Disadvantages nothing of much depth

HEAT MAGAZINE What is it? It’s a magazine. How much is it? £1.45. Why did I buy it? Because it had a free pull-out Big Brother calendar in it. Am I awfully sad then? Yes, probably. Was I disappointed? Not at all. Do you want to know anything else? Yes. Oh alright then… I don’t often buy magazines really, but this one looked good value. I am a huge fan of Big Brother and interested in celebrities, so this is a good magazine for me to buy. It’s not as upper-class and society-led as Hello, but it’s less sordid and revelatory than the National Enquirer. It is a good ... more

Advantages Advantages Good info and safe reviews

Disadvantages Disadvantages Has its favourite celebs and isn't controversial enough

I'm sure I'd miss this magazine if I didn't but it, but I do not consider it an essential purchase. Heat has been around a few years now and saya it has this week's hottest celebrity news. It trys to do a lot of things - probably too many, being a TV guide, review magazine, gossip column party go-er fashion mag and follower of icons all at the same time. On the whole it's reviews are fine, but they are never controversial. The films that will be a success get good reviews, the popular bands get their records praised, 4 stars out of 5 for Atomic Kitten, I ask you! and with only 2 book reviews a ... more

Advantages Advantages A celebrity goss-fest with everything you ever needed to know about the rich and famous

Disadvantages Disadvantages Continually focuses on the stars of the moment which can become monotonous (do we care what happened for posh's birthday??!)

I am one of those socially aware, teenage stereotypes who likes nothing better than to spend all day nattering about who's dating who, who wore what garish outfit at the latest awards ceremony and how excellent or crap the latest album on release is. This is why I always buy my copy of Heat! every Tuesday, a T.V guide and entertainment extravaganza all rolled into one dainty, reasonably priced magazine that isn't packed with hundreds of pages of advertising. From the first page to the last Heat! is a compelling read and an even more interesting look, with all the best celebrity cock-ups and ... more

Advantages Advantages Really funny, informative, very easy to read (no thought required)

Disadvantages Disadvantages Perhaps a bit short, but it is weekly!

Heat is probably the most readable mag out there. You can keep a copy close by wherever you are and just flick through it, always finding something entertaining or amusing; indeed the magazine is very funny, with jokes and quips being crammed into every corner of it. It is of course not a highly intellectual read, but this is perhaps why it is so enthralling, you can just pick it up and get into it straight away; it's about stuff everyone's interested in: films, music, celebs and contains all the information you could ever want to know about the nations favourite couple Posh & Becks (a ... more
