    Being on a tight budget is not easy and it is great when you find ways to get more for your money. Heron Frozen Foods helps me a little bit by being able to buy food at bargain prices. Heron Frozen Foods is a little known chain of freezer shops. Apparently it has 117 branches with it head office in Hull but I had never heard of it until I came across their branch in Stretford mall in Greater Manchester. They are a down market version of Iceland and Farmfoods (I bet you did not believe that was possible). They sell a range of well known frozen food brands such as Ross, Dalepack and Walls ... more

    Food Shops. Everyone needs them, everyone uses one. Heron Frozen Foods, as they were known until recently, are predominantly northern with their base in and around Hull. I am lucky in that I can find at least 5 within a 10 mile radius. For those who are lucky, other branches further afield from Hull, that I know of, include Bridlington, Scarborough, Mablethorpe, Skegness, Grimsby, Spalding, Lincoln and around Greater Manchester.     This medium sized chain of stores is an absolute godsend for any one living on their own or to a tight budget. Branded goods at lower than most supermarkets. My main gripe is that the stores are very cramped. I have visited at least six stores and all seem to have been built on plots no bigger than the penalty box of a football pitch!     There are a lot of shops out there that sell foods at discount prices, but I have found that the real bargains are few and far between and the products sold are not nice at all. I would love to mention my experiences in such shops but won't as this one is about Heron. It may not be advertised reguarly in newspapers and on television and to be honest with the crowds in tehre I am so glad that it is not. I can only assume that the money saved on advertising is reflected in the prices within the store for me and you and that is definately a good thing in my eyes.     I wanted to write this op because I feel the shop deserves to be known about, the problem with that is I believe that the company is actually just a Hull based shop so unless you can get to Hull easily than you may not be interested. Here goes anyway… The front of the shop looks just like a typical freezer shop, a big window with this weeks special offers on large poster to entice you in. The shops, and there are about one on each main shopping street in Hull, are all very clean and are almost all laid out in the same order.     It doesn't look like one of the best shops around - It just looks like an average local shop. You couldn't be more wrong. It is probably one of the best bargain shops around. It's small and you couldn't do your weekly shop in there (a shame), but it's nice to pop in every week or so to see the offers. There's some stuff there that's only around there for a day or so and that's normally located near or on the till stand. Their offers are amazingly cheap (as is their presentation, but with the prices, you can't go wrong) and undercut supermarkets by at least half on some products. It's better ... more

    Heron (Sheffield) is on a par with Jack fulton and Iceland. Heron is the cheaper version of all of them. Aisles are ridducolouslly small. The staff have no room to let customers pass when they are stacking shelves. On the plus side their prices are cheap, and reciepts are given which is handy for me as I have to claim back the money for milk. 2 pints of milk is only 66p which had to be said is cheap. There is no way you could do a weekly shop inside, as the range isn't that brilliant. If your going past though I would pick your milk up as it around twenty pence cheaper than the supermarket and ... more

    I USE HERON STORE IN FILEY ON A REGULAR BASIS, AND THE STAFF THERE ARE AS COLD AS THE GOODS IN THE FREEZERS. IF YOU WANT TO LOOK IN THE FRIDGES HALF THE TIME YOU CAN NOT, DUE TO TROLLEYS IN THE WAY OR BOXES OF STOCK ON TOP OF THE FREEZERS. A SMILE IS OUT OF THE QUESTION WHEN BEING SERVED AT THE TILL AND I DOUBT IF THE WOULD EVEN NOW WHO THEY HAVE JUST SERVED, THERE IS NO EYE CONTACT AT ANY TIME.     I LIKE TO SHOP IN HERON OFTEN,I BUY QUITE A BIT AND OFTEN BUT FOR THE LAST FOUR TIMES I HAVE SHOPPED AT HERON THE STAFF ARE MOPING THE FLOORS AS CUSTOMERS ARE TRYING TO SHOP AS EARLY AS 3PM,.I WOULDNT MIND IF IT WAS BECAUSE OF A SPILLAGE BUT ITS NOT AND THEY ARE MOPING ALL THE FLOOR AND ARE EVEN MOPING RIGHT NEXT TO YOU THEN WAITING UNTIL YOU MOVE TO MOP THAT AREA.I FEEL HARRASED AND FEEL I HAVE TO RUSH MY SHOPPING JUST SO THAT THE STAFF CAN MOP THE FLOOR.THEY EVEN MOP ROUND YOUR FEET AS YOUR PUTTING THE FOOD ON THE COUNTER.THEN THE STAFF HAVE THE CHEEK TO SAY TO OTHER STAFF AS ANOTHER ... more

    Being disabled i find the heron stores hard to use so i never shop there any more i have had 2 problems with heron head office and both times they never sorted it out they called the police on customers on saturday the 26th of feb 2011 over a loading bay made out of a public parking bay the manager had no answers for me only we called the cops so parking tickets were given out yet their lorry was on the yellow lines over the road from heron not using the loading bay as 2 cars were blocking it said the manager the lorry drivers makeing threats of the police being called if you do park in the ... more
