    Advantages Advantages everythings fab!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages HATFIELD

As a fresher starting at this university in September this year I can say that the University is a great place to study. The whole experience that University life has offered so far has been brilliant and the University of Hertfordshire is fully equipped to offer all students a fab experience. The main draw to the University (academically) is the fact that courses can be mixed and matched; students originally planning to study history can find themselves studying as different language or accountancy! This diversity is encouraged in the University allowing students to choose options for ... more

Advantages Advantages Great facilities, good ratings, enthusiastic lecturers

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some would say location

First off, UH is regarded by many people as a 'Jack of all, master of none' type of university. The fact of the matter is UH has very sensibly decided to drop the subjects which are its worst to concentrate time, money and resources on its better ones. As such it is rapidly improving in both teaching and research ratings and is highly regarded for its Law, Engineering (including IT) and History courses. The facilities are excellent for my course (CompSci) and the main campus has the 'Learning Resource Centre' - i.e. a library. Its the biggest of its kind in the country - approximatly the size ... more

    Advantages Advantages Brilliant Facilities!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Location

I have been to the Uni of Herts for the last year and i feel i shopuld let the world know my opinions! I am studying an art course there and i have to say that this uni has the most modern and up to date facilities going! Its brilliant, you have the opportunities to do what ever you want with the added bonus of the place being new! As well as the art part, the uni also has one of the best and most modern libraries in the country, with the best computer access going, free internet all day and all night! The3 only problem that I woulod say the uni has is its location, although its close to ... more

Advantages Advantages Fresh air, yet 30 mins from the night life of Central London - great facilities and dedicated staff.

Disadvantages Disadvantages None I can think of!

I came here to take a one year Masters course after reading a Psychology degree at the University of Westminster thinking it would be an "in" to all sorts of careers. Well to be honest it wasn't. This may have been for a number of factors, for example being a "mature student' but the one thing it wasn't was because of a lack of technical skill or dedication of the lecturers. This was a VERY intensive course and we really felt the pressure, yet through it all ther was never any feeling that the slowest were being left behind, or that the fastest were not being stretched. The college is ... more

Advantages Advantages modern learning resource centre

Disadvantages Disadvantages some departments not very good due to lack of research

The university of hertfordshire is one of the "new" universities in UK. But believe me it proves that new can be gold as well. It has an excellent learning resource centre, one of the best in the whole of UK. It has 4 research rating in departments like computer science and astronomy. The university is particularly good in fields of science, engineering and computers. The other aspect which makes this university stand out is the fee, it has one of the lowest fees compared to other UK universities. I am a research student at the university doing my M.Sc. in astrnomy by research. There is ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good libary

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor night life, closure of some courses

This review of UH could be a little tainted as I am in my final year and with out telling the students over easter the vice chancelor decided to close the chemistry department in three years, you may think that that would not affect me, but a discision to sack all but 4 of the lecturers at easter was taken, now i am at easter revising for my finals, we have been told but not confermed that most of the lecturers are coming back on some tempory basis but one is defently not and he is an important part of the course. Appart from this the uni is not that bad, the LRC (libary) is moddern and up to ... more

    Advantages Advantages library is good......

Disadvantages Disadvantages shame about everything else

Course I did a art and design course and I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I am in this university. First let us start by talking about the course. My first impressions were, "it is very quiet in the studios but I’m sure it will get busier" However the only time when it did get really busy was in the third year when everyone started coming in because their degrees were coming to an end. Personally I found this appalling, as there is no schedule of workshops or any real timetable or anything we really had to go in for, especially in the third and 2nd years. And I’m pretty ... more

    Advantages Advantages very close

    Disadvantages Disadvantages possibility of rejection

As a sixth-former, I have just completed my UCAS forms applying for University. My number one choice was Hertfordshire. I have a few friends at the University and I have had nothing but glowing accounts about the 'Cognitive Science' course under the sub-section of Psyhcology. I hope I am accepted there, as the campus facilities on the Hatfield site look wonderful and I am told that the business school (complete with its own mansion!) is also fantastic. The lecturers are said to be a little confusing depending on, obviously, who it is. Overall it sounds wonderful. ... more

Advantages Advantages Free Internet and cheap booze

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Nota Lotta Clubs

Well, I guess seeing as I am sat in the Learning Resources Centre using the internet for free, I probably shouldn't slate the place too much. I am a little miffed about my course and I do have to say I don't reccomend Combined Studies as a course, its still in its teething stages and rather frustrating from the inside. However, the Uni is pretty goddamn wicked! Its a cool place to be. Hatfield is a pretty small town and the locals aren't exactly very forthcoming to students, but it just means we all stick together even more. There's loads of students and very many cool people. ... more
