Advantages: Amazing logic, makes you laugh like you've never laughed before, the best ending ever Disadvantages: It's long, but that shouldn't bother you - 100 pages and you're hooked and begging for more.
The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy was written by the late, great Douglas Adams, who passed away recently. As it currently stands, there are 5 volumes (‘A trilogy in five parts’). These books are
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy,
The Restaurant at the End of the Universe,
Life, the Universe and Everything,
So Long and Thanks for All the Fish, and
Mostly Harmless
Each is a compelling and original outlook on life. Adams is one of the ...

Advantages: Everything! Disadvantages: You need to read it more thanm once to fully appreciate it!
Stephen Fry once described Douglas Adams as "Not so much a man, as a force of nature". This may seem a little over the top, yet if you read this novel, you will understand the reasoning behind it. The book is funny, sarcastic, a little political and one of the most imaginative pieces of fictional writings I have ever read!
This book was first published in 1979, after a Radio series and a television series were produced. This is probably the only ...

Advantages: See opinion Disadvantages: What we have is all we have
Ciao don't do general opinions on an author as such, so I'm making my own stand for the sake of Douglas Adams' memory. It's the least I can do.
What a laugh. That's pretty much all you can say about the man, except to add that he was a clever, witty, caring and creative genius.
Born in March, 1952 in Cambridgeshire, he was educated in a high school in Brentwood, Essex before returning home and attending St. Johns College, in the dreaming spires ...

Advantages: Great story, great characters Disadvantages: Some of the jokes just don't work
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy has long been regarded as a comedy classic and a milestone in science fiction writing, and has spawned a whole host of copycat books, most of which failed miserably to live up to the original and best. The beauty of it lies in the originality of the idea, even if some of the jokes try to be a little clever for their own good, and to be honest, some passages read quite awkwardly.
That said, re-reading this ...

When my husband phoned me at work to tell me Douglas Adams had died, I almost cried at my desk.
I have been a fan since I first read 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' at around age 8, and since then I have read his work voraciously and waited impatiently for each new installment to come out. No other writer has ever made me laugh so hard, laugh out loud or keep laughing through as many re-reads as Douglas has.
After some online research, ...

Advantages: Smart and witty. Disadvantages: Bit short
This is the kind of book that changes lives, that influences to the point of taking over your life. It lives you just on the brink of insanity, and if you don't come out of it confused, you did a hell of a lot better than me.
The story starts off with the lead character Arthur Dent waking up one Thursday. The day doesn't start off well. Outside his house is a council bulldozer, poised and ready to knock down his house to build a bypass. Arthur's ...

Advantages: Hilarious Disadvantages: Rare and Expensive
Douglas Adams was a visionary. In the late seventies he wrote a radio play, which later became a novel, a TV series, and possibly a film. This play was called the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy (HHGG) and it was about the WAP phone.
The Hitch Hikers Guide is an electronic guide to everything, a portable, wireless device; used for finding out information at the touch of a button. Reporters could also send articles over the ether for instant update. ...

Advantages: Funny, imaginative and surprising. Disadvantages: The last two books failed to live up to expectations.
Ah yes, the Hitch-Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. One of the strangest books I’ve ever read, but also one of the best. The characters and their adventures are good enough, but the most amazing thing about the book, and the whole series, is the way that Douglas Adams adds background to the scenes by going off on tangents to tell you different stories.
The basic plot is that an alien race wanted to find out the answer to life, the universe and everything, ...

The Hitchhikers Guide to the galaxy by Douglas Adams is a trilogy in five parts. There were originally meant to be only three parts, but the whole story grew. By the time, the fourth and fifth books came along; HHGTTG was already established as a trilogy, and so continued to be known as such. The five parts are:-
-The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
-The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
-Life, the Universe and Everything
-So Long, and Thanks ...

...I have just read the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy yet again, and then read the opinion that i wrote about a year ago. My opinion of the book haven't changed one bit. I still think it is a mantra in basic philosophy and something every person SHOULD read, even if it is not your type of thing. I must have bought about 10 plus copies of the book over the last 5 years to give to friends. When i get to know someone, the words "You just have to read ...

Douglas Adams is a genius. He really is. Even if he does use an Apple Mac... Hitch hiker's guide to the galaxy is the book which made him famous. Indeed, it's such a well loved story that it's been a radio script, a TV show, and maybe will become a film. The books are the definitive version of the story, coming in a trilogy of 5 books.. hmm.. yep.. that's a triology. The main character is Arthur Dent, an ape descended life form who still thinks digital ...

One thing I don't wan't to do is spoil any of the gags and there is plenty of them from begining to end most take you unawares. Even the preface is funny as Douglas describes how he came to write the book. This sets ...

The Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy is an amazing book, so amazing in fact, that it reveals the answer to life, the universe and everything.
It doesn’t start off so spectacularly though. We meet the main character, Arthur Dent in his not very remarkable house. He doesn’t seem to realise that his house is about to be demolished to make way for a bypass. When he finally does make a connection with the bulldozer outside his house, he ...
