Advantages Advantages Excellent staff, well organised, lots of personal space, relaxing, lots to do

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive, dining could be improved

Hoar Cross Hall is a Spa Resort based in a stately home in Staffordhsire. It is a grade II listed building, built around the 1860's and set in grounds of 100 acres. I visited here two years ago when I decided to book an indulgent spa break for myself as a treat after leaving a very stressful job. Website and Booking The Hoar Cross Hall website is www.hoarcross.co.uk. It is a straightforward website, from the home page you can browse to look at the accommodation types, read up on the outdoor activities available, look at the spa facilities and there is a comprehensive list of the treatments on ... more

Advantages Advantages Easily accessible, pampering for the duration of your stay, fabulous food, excellent accomodation

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Pricey!

If you’re looking for somewhere to pamper yourself, then head to Hoar Cross Hall in Staffordshire. Hoar Cross is an exclusive spa where you can relax and be beautified for either a day or on a residential basis for however long you like – or can afford! I booked in for a one night midweek spa break with my mate, which cost £155 each. Included in this price was all meals, unlimited use of the spa and gym facilities, outdoor activities, a 25 minute facial and a session on the toning tables. The spa is absolutely fantastic. It’s an amazing design and looks beautiful, lots of curves and soft ... more

Advantages Advantages Lovely relaxing day, bend over backwards for you!!Friendly staff!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some treatments painful and very pricey.

My partner treated me to a day at Hoar Cross Hall for christmas!! After looking after our one year old everyday he thought I deserved a relaxing time!! I was going by myself so decided to book quite a few extra treatments to keep myself occupied and had my hair done, a manicure, an Idian head massage and an eyebrow re-shape. I arrived 10 minutes before my first treatment and rushed to the changing rooms.... after I was showed where they were- it wasn't obvious where they were!!! I then found my way by following the little map they provide. It's not a huge place but it's got lots of doors so ... more

Advantages Advantages plenty to do, reasonable cost, excellant staff!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages absolutely none!

What a day! Pure Bliss...... Myself and my partner booked a day at the Eden Day Spa adjoining Hoar Cross Hall hotel on the 28th May 07. We were originally planning to spend the day at the Thermae Spa in Bath until we called a couple of weeks before and they couldn't book us in for any treatments - this was very lucky on our part and I am so glad it turned out the way it did! Location ******************** Located in a small village called Yoxall. Coming from Birmingham, you join the A38 North towards Lichfield and Derby. It is about 55 minutes away. Take the B5016 off the A38 at Barton Under ... more

Advantages Advantages Beautiful place, great staff, loads to choose from

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Doesn't come cheap

Hoar Cross Hall is a health spa near Uttoxeter in Staffordshire. Recently a mate and I treated ourselves to a day there. The place itself is beautiful. It is a very, very old hall the size of a stateley home in gorgeous grounds. The grounds include a wood, various lawns, a topiary garden and a sweet smelling lilac garden. There are statues and fountains everywhere. The hall is spectacular - all wood panelling, plush settees, polished floors, thick carpets and sweeping staircases. You really feel like the lady of the manor! Hoar Cross has several workout rooms, a gym, an indoor pool, sauna ... more

Advantages Advantages A fabulous, fabulous experience

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slightly tacky and quite expensive

I recently gave up smoking and having always wanted to have a spa break, chose to use the money I had saved for this. I went for two nights in June and really enjoyed it - to the extent that I returned from 4 nights last week. The place itself is quite easy to find from the directions given and, on first impression, looks fabulous. When you look a bit more closely, it starts to look a bit like "more money than taste" - I mean - chandeliers in the aerobics studio, please. In the dining room, the former ballroom, it is all period portraits and wood panelling, then you spot portraits in oils of ... more

Advantages Advantages Novelty experience, variety of treatments, beautiful building & area

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor spa hygeine, expense, slightly tacky

Hoar Cross Hall is set in a Grade II listed stately home ruined only by some of the tacky touches to its décor and the insistence of the owner to surround you with vanity portraits of himself. There's no escaping the gloating of this self-made millionaire. In case you should have overlooked these pictures on every wall and table lining the corridors, he benignly provides a self-help guide, written by him, on your bedside table. This replaces the usual Gideon Bible of hotel rooms- do we make something of this? Our room had a nice view of the gardens and was a good size, although we did not ... more

Advantages Advantages You're left to do your own thing, even sleep if you want to!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Early lunch and noise (the free ear plugs would be useful!)

I went to Eden Day Spa which is adjacent to Hoar Cross Hall with my friend for a girl's day out and it was very relaxing and very highly recommended! The changing rooms are very clean and comfortable and in your locker you're given two towels and a very nice robe which I wore for the whole day! We booked in for continental breakfast which consisted of fresh fruit and yoghurt, pastries, bread, cheese and meats and cereals. With fruit juice and tea or coffee. The food was very fresh and tasty. Lunch was also very impressive, with three courses (including a buffet of salad, vegetables and other ... more

2 Stars Quick review of Hoar Cross Hall (Staffordshire) by rachel1892 13/11/2007
Arrived on the friday night and stayed during saturday. Rooms were ok- beds really soft and not so comfortable---massage i had was good, hower pool area and steam rooms were very busy. It was difficult to relax as there were loads of screaming woman shouting about how cold the plunge pool was ect. (maybe they were just excited-i think its a haven for hen parties). I think there should be more emphasis on people respecting that others would like to relax. Or maybe I have been too spoilt in the past. On a plus side the meal on the Friday night ... more

    Advantages Advantages None

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive, Loud building work, Staff apathy

I booked for a five day break here, having read the glowing reviews on Ciao & elsewhere. I wanted, indeed was paying for, a few quiet days of pampering - but arrived to find a massive building site, complete with noisy mechanical diggers. The room we were first given looked out onto the site! The alternative offered with ill grace was very nice - but our request for our luggage to be brought up was met with a piqued response that "he had a few other things to do first". Given that the reception staff had not been at all welcoming, we decided that this was likely to be our entire experience ... more
