Having travelled from Ipswich to Basildon, to find out more about HobbyCraft, which so many people were talking about, I can say that it has to have been the most wasted trip we've ever made! While there was certainly a lot to see, there was nothing exciting or new. Prices were normally exorbitant, higher than many small stores, except on a few things that were obviously being got rid of quickly. The layout was awful, resembling nothing I've ever ... ...for specific items. Customer service was virtually non-existent and staff knowledge of what they were selling was risible! To cap it all, there was an attempt to overcharge by more than twice what little we had spent ! When challenged, we were informed: "Oh, the tills do that sometimes"!! A very unpleasant experience and a wasted day. We'd have been better off going to our local stores. A subsequent visit, at the insistence of friends, proved even ...

Quick review of HobbyCraft Store (Shop)
I live in Plymouth Devon and was delighted when Hobbycraft opened in Plymouth based at Woolworths it open late in 2008, Yes you guessed it shut with the closure of Woolworth the end of 2008.
We were sad to see the end of and era and couldn't believe that Hobbycraft went to. Is there any likelihood of Hobbycraft moving else where in the city there are lots of empty shops in the area. Whenever We were in buying buying crafts the shop was always busy and the staff were so helpful.
Please please Rreturn to our city we have waited years for this.
Just one of many happy shopper Marie ...

...extremely excited to here that hobbycraft was opening up locally and waited in aticipation for it to open and i was nothing but DISSAPOINTED with the place. The front of the shop was taken up by sweet and xmas trees, where is the craft in that. I find hobbycraft very over priced and the level of service is nowhere near as good as you get in little craft stores. I visit a craft store in middlesbrough and the staff are extremely helpful. I pay just ... ...double that at 97p each which is a disgrace. although hobbycraft is big, it is also a big con. i stick by my small craft shops anyday. you will also find them much more accomadating at getting stock in for you where large stores cannot and will not do that. ...

...kind of stuff is always hobbycraft as it is absolutely fantastic. It is a craft paradise and I am not sure there are many people which would hate it. So here is why I love Hobbycraft and will always go there for my craft supplies.
The shop I am reviewing has the following address;

The name gives it away but this is truly a store for people to buy crafts or even for people to find inspiration to begin a hobby that they might like. When you walk into the Wednesfield store you immediately see row after row of crafts and there is a huge walk way down the centre of the shop so you can very simply find what you like. They ...

...when you first walk into Hobbycraft because it feels like you are entering an Aladdin's Cave - there is just so much stuff to look at that I can easily spend a couple of hours just browsing around all the shelves. There is just about something for everyone covering a whole range of hobbies including model making, cross stitch, knitting, jewellery making and my favourite card making and scrapbooking. There are also many kits and products that are ... ...anyone around to ask.
Hobbycraft does seem particularly good for specific times of the year be it Easter, Valentines Day or Christmas. I was quite pleased to see though, that today at the beginning of September that Christmas was not dominating too much yet! There were Christmas items about particularly for card making which let's face it, if you are thinking of making your own cards, you do want to start early.
Hobbycraft do seem to send out leaflets ...

Advantages: this shop caters for most hobbies and tell you how to start Disadvantages: you could go in for something worth £1 and spend much much more
...I did.
HobbyCraft was launched by Warren Haskins, chairman of the well-known Haskins Garden Centre Group. Their shops have 32,000 arts and crafts products so there is bound to be something of interest for you and your family whatever sex or age you are.
I went in looking for knitting patterns and came away with candle making kits which when I went into the shop knew nothing about. Around the shop for most of their crafts they have pamplets on the ... ...tips on how to do things. With the help of these pamplets I was able to make the candles perfectly. I know its not rocket science to make candles but following the leaflets I achieved it so it proves how well written they are.
The shop itself is well set out with a main aisle down the centre with buckets of special offers and sale items. Everything is well set out and all you need for one hobby is all in one place so if you wanted to knit you would ...

...I can't really recommend Hobbycraft as a place to buy craft supplies but as a showroom and source of information I would rate them quite highly. Canvasses for painting are extraordinarily expensive, when you compare them with The Works, who can offer artist's material at about 30% of what Hobbycraft are asking. They would get my vote if they were to take a long hard look at their pricing and be a little more realistic. Oh, and a bit of customer care ...

~~Cross stitch~~
The cross stitch you can buy and do it yourself but if you are not sure of what to do then the instructions are on the back and you can get many patterns to do and pictures. The things you get in it is a needle some colour thread and a piece of paper sort of thing where you do the cross stitch. I think this item is brilliant and is ideal for children around the age of 9 and onwards as it is educational ...

...in the ad, that's because Hobbycraft see themselves, I suspect, primarily aimed at women. Step through its automatic doors and you'll see what I mean. ...first visit to the Southampton Hobbycraft store. I had seen the advertisements in our local paper and I thought that it definitely deserved a visit. My girls and I are always painting and drawing.

Advantages: Good store to spend money if you want to do crafts AND good customer service. Disadvantages: Not got enough money to spend in there though...
I had to visit Hobbycraft for a rather extensive purchase and being a needlework designer, I decided for speed to visit Hobbycraft in Reading. And because of that I think it is. I had to purchase a few hundred skeins of embroidery threads. However as I said this is a review about their customer, well, it is! The excellence of their customer service started when I arrived at the helpdesk with my basket full of skeins. The girl who served me went out ... ...manager said that all my skeins (about 500 of them of assorted colours) had to be individually scanned in. It put the software they used to the test, and stopped this sales assistant from serving any other customer. I was just waiting for all the skeins to be scanned in for more than an hour. But she worked very hard and never waivered from showing the best in customer service. When her manager walked over to check progress, I told her that this ...

~~~ Craft Superstore ~~~
You name the craft and you'll find there are materials and equipment stocked in HobbyCraft. I've found a great range of threads and patterns for my cross stitch. The prices in HobbyCraft are very competitive. For cross stitch they stock both Anchor and DMC threads and the prices are a few pence cheaper than in other stores although not as cheap as you can get mail order. For my rubber stamping I have found a great range of stamps and I've found the prices again to be slightly cheaper than elsewhere. If you are looking for cards, paper and sundries you will find not only are the prices competitive ...
If you are into anything crafty from painting to needlwork, from stamping to decoupage then this is the store for you. My local one in Basildon has the friendliest staff going. They cannot do enough for you. I was staggered, as an allround crafter, just what was available. The needlework section alone made me drool. I especially love the free craft leaflets which are available both in the store and on line. While you are there you can buy the materials ... ...that is an excellent place to visit. Unfortunately you cannot order on line, or maybe that is fortunately because the real joy of this place is that you can spend hours just wondering around the store, even with the kids as there is a fab crafty section for them as well.
