Treasure island Review with images

Advantageswide range

Disadvantagesnothing for me

"...when I first visited the Hobbycraft in Woking. This is a very nice store where you can find loads of treasures to your craft works. The store in Woking is in the Lion Retail Park which accommodates some other DIY, interior design and household appliance stores. There are loads of parking places, I never had difficulty finding parking place there and the parking is free. The Hobbycraft is about in the middle. The store has a ground floor and a first ..." Time to get on my hobbyhorse

AdvantagesOpening hours, wide variety of crafts, easy to move around shopping

DisadvantagesPricing, lack of choices on items generally only stocking one of each.

"Hobbycraft shops are usually a first point of call for many inexperienced crafters. As the shops are more typical of a department store, and usually located in retail parks or high streets. The stores cover many a different type of hobby, which is good for most people, but at the same time as they dont specialise, they carry very little within each speciality. I first came across hobbycraft about 6 years ago, when I took up papercrafting, not having ..." Read review

An Aladdin's Cave!

Advantagesgreat for all craft supplies

Disadvantagescould be more organised

"...when you first walk into Hobbycraft because it feels like you are entering an Aladdin's Cave - there is just so much stuff to look at that I can easily spend a couple of hours just browsing around all the shelves. There is just about something for everyone covering a whole range of hobbies including model making, cross stitch, knitting, jewellery making and my favourite card making and scrapbooking. There are also many kits and products that are very ..." Read review

GET CRAFTY WITH HOBBYCRAFT

AdvantagesLoads to look at, leaflets to learn from, workshops held, most crafts catered for, children and adults crafts catered for

DisadvantagesYou can spend a long time in the shop perusing as there is so much to see

"...decided to visit my local Hobbycraft Store which is in Southampton to see whether I could conjure up any inspiration. Hobbycraft is the UK's largest chain of dedicated Arts and Crafts Superstores. Since the first HobbyCraft Superstore opened in Ferndown, Bournemouth in 1995, the company has expanded to 19 Arts and Crafts Superstores nationwide. Hobbycraft sell over 30,000 products all associated with various arts and crafts. All their shops ..." Read review

Could make 'crafts' the new DIY

AdvantagesFull of inspiring ideas, everything for artists and makers of all things, open late

DisadvantagesFinding what you're after can be tricky, lots of tempting things for kids

"...in the ad, that's because Hobbycraft see themselves, I suspect, primarily aimed at women. Step through its automatic doors and you'll see what I mean. On your left there is a shelf of bit and bobs for doing tapestry or needlepoint. Straight in front, a dazzling display of artificial flora and fauna greets you. A big selection here, as I encountered when putting together a nice bunch for Mother's Day. Some of them are pretty realistic looking and ..." Read review

Get a new hobby besides being on the computer

Advantagesthis shop caters for most hobbies and tell you how to start

Disadvantagesyou could go in for something worth £1 and spend much much more

"This shop should come with a warning that there is a good chance that if you just pop into this shop for one item you will leave with a new hobby. I did. HobbyCraft was launched by Warren Haskins, chairman of the well-known Haskins Garden Centre Group. Their shops have 32,000 arts and crafts products so there is bound to be something of interest for you and your family whatever sex or age you are. I went in looking for knitting patterns ..." Disadvantageswant to buy extra items once you are there

"...first visit to the Southampton Hobbycraft store. I had seen the advertisements in our local paper and I thought that it definitely deserved a visit. My girls and I are always painting and drawing. The Southampton store is situated next to Haskins Garden Centre, Gaters Hill, Mansbridge Road, West End, Southampton, Hants, SO18 3HW. There is a large free car park outside. A map and directions are available on their web site. If you select the store ..." Read review

Witch Craft Will You Choose

AdvantagesPLEASE IGNORE THE RATINGS AS THEY REFER TO THE WEBSITE

DisadvantagesPLEASE IGNORE THE RATINGS AS THEY REFER TO THE WEBSITE

"...So of course when HobbyCraft opened in Basildon I was pretty happy. ~~~ Craft Superstore ~~~ You name the craft and you'll find there are materials and equipment stocked in HobbyCraft. I've found a great range of threads and patterns for my cross stitch. I also made all my own wedding favours from materials bought in HobbyCraft. Most recently I've started doing rubber stamping and HobbyCraft is where I head for all the materials. There is a fantastic ..." Read review

From pom poms to beads and felt tip pens

Advantagescheap, every craft under the sun

DisadvantagesI always spend too much when I go in

"...all under one roof. My local HobbyCraft store is up on the Central Six Retail Park in Coventry City Centre. It has been open for between 2 and 3 years now. All the different types of crafts are split into sections, so all the embroidery/needleworks kits and accessories are in one place, so are all the beads and beading items etc. They also have a book section which is interesting to look through. If you find the appropriate craft that you want, you ..." Read review

A Superstore for Crafters (HobbyCraft Store)

AdvantagesHuge wide range of different craft materials available here, and lots of choice.

DisadvantagesMore expensive than buying the same things online frequently.

"Hobbycraft is one of those shops that if you're like me and a crafter it's easy to spend all day in when you first come across the place. It's like a giant supermarket of craft supplies really with different isles dedicated to different types of crafting. At first glance, the place sells everything you could possibly want and then some. Actually, when Hobbycraft first came to our town, I spent quite a lot of time wandering round in there looking ..." Hobbycraft -

AdvantagesGreat selection, good display

DisadvantagesJaw dropping prices

"...the store. I can't really recommend Hobbycraft as a place to buy craft supplies but as a showroom and source of information I would rate them quite highly. Canvasses for painting are extraordinarily expensive, when you compare them with The Works, who can offer artist's material at about 30% of what Hobbycraft are asking. They would get my vote if they were to take a long hard look at their pricing and be a little more realistic. Oh, and ..." Read review

Is customer service a craft as well

AdvantagesGood store to spend money if you want to do crafts AND good customer service.

DisadvantagesNot got enough money to spend in there though...

"I had to visit Hobbycraft for a rather extensive purchase and being a needlework designer, I decided for speed to visit Hobbycraft in Reading. And because of that I think it is. I had to purchase a few hundred skeins of embroidery threads. However as I said this is a review about their customer, well, it is! The excellence of their customer service started when I arrived at the helpdesk with my basket full of skeins. The girl who served me went out ..." Read review

HobbyCraft a major disappointment

Advantages

Disadvantages

"Having travelled from Ipswich to Basildon, to find out more about HobbyCraft, which so many people were talking about, I can say that it has to have been the most wasted trip we've ever made! While there was certainly a lot to see, there was nothing exciting or new. Prices were normally exorbitant, higher than many small stores, except on a few things that were obviously being got rid of quickly. The layout was awful, resembling nothing I've ever ..."
