    I am one of those people that LOVE Christmas. I love everything about it. I love spending time with my family, shopping, wrapping gifts, making cards and of course - Baking!! It feels special to serve your festive guests with delicious home made goodies. In this recipe I am going to include instructions to make the pastry and mincemeat from scratch. If you do not enjoy spending time in the kitchen you buy frozen pastry or pre-made mincemeat or both. All that's required then is assembly and baking.     Yes, I know it seems as though we have only just emerged from Christmas and are still defrosting the car every morning, but it's true - Easter is coming. Easter Sunday in 2007 falls on April 8th and traditionally, gifts of eggs are given on this day, symbolising the arrival of spring (and, for Christians, when Jesus rose from the dead).     They say that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Well, that's as may be, but it's not just the way to a man's heart, it's a pretty good way to mine, too. Cook me a good meal, and I'm all yours! For celebration meals, especially romantic celebration meals, you can throw your "buy local" campaign to the winds. What you need are ingredients which taste nice, look nice and smell nice. It also helps if they have aphrodisiac properties, guaranteed to… well, they're just guaranteed. You know what I mean!     Advantages Advantages Vegetarian alternatives which taste as good as the originals.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages The Christmas pudding requires 8 hours steaming and then a further 2 hours on the day.

    I don’t normally allow myself to use the C word until December, but there are some things which need a little bit more preparation. Christmas puddings are one of them and you might as well do the mincemeat, which is a doddle, whilst you’re at it. I’m not a vegetarian but I have a lot of friends who don’t eat meat or meat products and it’s good to be able to serve food which they’re happy to eat.     Last year having been pestered for weeks by my daughter I finally relented and threw a Halloween party for her school friends. The thought of being played tricks by all her ghoulish pals didn’t quite appeal to me, but I thought that if I laid on a good spread it would let me off lightly.     In my house it would probably be Oh Gawd what do we feed the Meatie? Having been a veggie for some time as is my daughter, I'm often asked the question but what do you actually eat? This question is normally followed by but you eat chicken and fish don't you? Then you get the pitying look, as if to say you'll grow out of it!
