Disadvantages Disadvantages Their ordering service is shockingly poor

Homebase is a shop I used to love. However, previous events have meant that my opinion of them has dropped a lot! Homebase is a DIY shop that sells pretty much everything, from wood and power tools to garden furniture and plants. Homebase also sells more 'homey' products such as vases, candles and even ironing boards. The stores themselves are well organised with aisles relating to different products with signs above each aisle to let you know what's located down them. This makes it very simple if you are in a rush looking for something. The shops do vary depending on how old they are, the ... more

I would just like to write a review of my local Homebase store, after having visited it to purchase a work top for the kitchen a while ago. As with all of my reviews, I must add that these views are only my own and you may have either the same or different to me on this particular shop. In this particular Homebase store, they sold everything from office furniture (including CD towers); through a Laura Ashley outlet (for their home furnishings etc); through linenware; through kitchens and bathrooms, to having a proper full on garden centre. So in essence, anything you wish to buy for the house ... more

Advantages Advantages You have to get DIY stuff somewhere

Disadvantages Disadvantages No advice or customer service

Ah Homebase... there's one of the little green fellas not too far away from you, no matter where you are. I have suddenly had much call to visit DIY superstores of all shapes and sizes. This is due to purchasing a flat with my wifee to be. She asks for little, just a complete redecoration job :-) So, I now make regular visits to Homebase, B&Q and Wickes to purchase bits, pieces and things that go buzz... On first approach, Homebase is reasonably accessible. They usually have a good sized parking lot (although my local one is designed on the Labyrinth principle - the "nope, I can't drive ... more

I have to say I have given up with Homebase. I have one of their loyalty cards and my latest statement indicates I have not been at all for about 6 months. When you consider the amount of DIY and gardening I do this does seem to suggest Homebase is not meeting my needs. Homebase was established by Sainsburys many years ago and seemed at first to share the philosophy of the parent company. This meant the quality was good, the service could be expected to be customer friendly and the prices would be competitive. Of course Siansburys did not set up Homebase to be a charity and their objective was ... more

Advantages Advantages Good prices and a wide range of products

Disadvantages Disadvantages None apart from our local cashiers

Since buying my house just over a year ago I seem to have spent an increasing amount of time in Homebase, I have always be familiar with Homebase due to my parents often visiting our local store at weekends. Some people seem to moan a bit about Homebase but I have personally found that as far as DIY stores go Homebase is pretty good. Like many of the Homebase stores our local one is rather like a large warehouse type building with the tills at the front of the store and a large display area, this is were in the summer all the garden furniture is set up and in the winter generally they have a ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to use, well priced and efficient. Lots of idea's and tips too.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

Similar to previous authors of opinions re Homebase I have recently bought my own house and have had many occasions to take a necessary drive to the nearest (not necessarily the cheapest) home and garden centre. Mine happens to be Homebase. However, I'm not at all organised and would often find myself having to return to the store for the odd item or three that I missed on my initial trip. My wife suggested, thank goodness, that I might find Homebase or, some other Home and Garden centre on the web. So I did a simple search and 'presto' there it was in all it's finery; Homebases very own web ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages The refund/return policy, inflexability, not letting customers know of changes implemented

Okay, no more Miss Nice Guy, time for a bit of a moan I am afraid! But I hasten to add, if anybody reading this works for this company, please don’t get offended at me, as it isn’t meant against any of the employees. As you can probably tell from the title, my “victim” for today is Homebase. Now let me make one thing very clear from the start, I have up until now, always gone to Homebase for my DIY needs (ooh eer), and up until now I have had no cause to complain. Unfortunately that changed recently. As we all know, Homebase was taken over fairly recently, meaning that ... more

Today was a big day! Today was one of those days you wait for with the eager excitement of a four year-old waiting for Christmas! Today was a day for shopping! Today was the day for buying all those things you didn’t realise you didn’t need! Today was the Sainsbury’s Homebase Ten Percent Off Day! All summer there have been the fortnightly trips for potting compost, grow bags and slug pellets. Nothing big, nothing expensive and absolutely nothing you could put off buying until “The Day”. We have been thinking about a gazebo – well my friends have got one and ... more

So then here goes an insiders view of a Homebase store… Yep that’s right I worked for Hombase full time as the DIY supervisor about three years ago. I left to change career and earn more money, you see wages are a big problem in retail. I have now returned to my local store part time, as I need the money to get married, so I believe this opinion should give you a very good idea of what Homebase is like. Firstly I Need To Get This of My Chest A great question that customers always ask is “excuse me do you work here”. Now forgive me for being utterly stupid, but what do ... more

Okay, I admit it, letting me near power tools or DIY equipment is really asking for trouble. Unfortunately I have no choice, having just bought a new house, it goes part and parcel. Not having any tools (or any idea – did I mention that??) I thought somewhere like Homebase would be perfect for me. How wrong was I??? Read on and see. What do Homebase claim to offer?  Broad range – okay I will give them this one, the store near to us is very large. They have everything including paint, bathroom fittings, cables, garden accessories, plants, wood, EVERYTHING you could want ... more
