“R.I.P Homebase”

published 31/01/2001

Great selection of products

Sometimes on the pricey side...

It's so sad and disapointing that in the not so far future, Homebase will be no more after it was sold last December. I wonder if Mr Sainsbury realises what a great mistake he is making. Ever since i have bought my house about 3 months ago i have been quite a regular there, buying wallpaper like...

So then here goes an insiders view of a Homebase store… Yep that’s right I worked for Hombase full time as the DIY supervisor about three years ago. I left to change career and earn more money, you see wages are a big problem in retail. I have now returned to my local store part time...

“To bath or not to bath....”

quaility choice

I recently made some enquiries regarding a new bath. My bath had been damaged with only what I can believe to be my son’s toys .The bath had begun to leak into the kitchen. I searched for a suite with a little character something that would suit our needs. I have a very white bathroom so I...

“Not a base for me”

None come to mind

Too expensive, bad customer service

Homebase is one of the UK’s most popular DIY stores… However is this unjustly so? Compared to other DIY stores they are much more expensive (even on 10% days!!). One of the reasons for this is the “Spend and Save” loyalty card, which is offered to customers for free...

A D.I.Y store which I tend to ignore. It stocks quite a lot of items and products which you might need, but I always find that its on the expensive side. I did purchase a computer desk from there for £35 which was good value. But other than that I always find that Homebase is quite expensive...

Almost everything you should need for home/garden ...

I keep finding stuff I didn't know I needed

Seeing as I seem to have recently spent more time gazing around the shelves at Homebase than I have at home putting all the stuff I bought there to good use, I thought I should share my new obsession with you. Firstly I am in the process of sorting out the garden. When we moved in it was a jungle...

Lack of choice , more expensive than competitors

I live in quite a large town . I am therefore lucky enough to have a variety of DIY stores to choose from , eg. Homebase , B & Q , Wickes , Focus Do It All etc. , so I tend to shop around for things. If you go by their TV ads , Homebase will be the only place to go ( providing you have enough...

“Nearly everything stocked”

Everything under one roof

slightly dearer

I like our local Homebase, there is plenty of free parking and I have never been unable to find what I am looking for in it. I also find very useful, the range of leaflets produced, which give help on a whole range of gardening and DIY subjects. There is a good information desk and the staff are...

A large variety of items on offer

Pricey and absolutely no facilities for kids

First written December 2000 I first visited Homebase with my parents and uncle in 1978. We spent 3 hours there and I spent all the time walking aimlessly feeling frustrated, hungry and totally fed up. No wonder adults end up the way they do. So it was with some trepidation that I visited Homebase...

as above

I recently made a purchase from Homebase online and it left something to be desired! Whilst the quality of Homebase goods has never been a problem to me,you get what you pay for afterall, in theory anyway. Due to a dodgy car and intense lazyness i decided to purchase heavy items including paint...

Good range and stock levels

Specialist products are expensive

Homebase is a place I like to visit which is a good job because I seem to go there about once a week. They have some great value products that really cover the necessities in life. I have noticed too that the range of products that they do is growing monthly. The customer service is slow and...

saves you cash by being loyal

only at homebase

Having moved home last year, we needed to buy lots of paint and DIY bits and bobs to “do up” our new home. We started using Homebase because it was our nearest DIY store and linked into their “Spend and Save” reward scheme. This is just brilliant. In addition to them...

I have worked in Homebase in the past and despite being happy to leave employment there, it is actually a really good shop. I used to spy lots of nice things that I wanted. In my opinion it has a lot more variety of items than the likes of B&Q...stocking diy tools and electricals, many varieties...

Plenty of stock

Homebase Berwick. I was looking for some gardening equipment and some hard landscaping accessories so I called into Homebase at Berwick as they had quite a few garden items at "sale prices". Oh dear!! If you want unbelievable prices then this is the place to come, get Black and Decker or Atco...
