Not a base for me

AdvantagesNone come to mind

DisadvantagesToo expensive, bad customer service

"Homebase is one of the UK’s most popular DIY stores… However is this unjustly so? Compared to other DIY stores they are much more expensive (even on 10% days!!). One of the reasons for this is the “Spend and Save” loyalty card, which is offered to customers for free. However it usually takes over 6 weeks for information regarding the card to be processed and it is often months before you hear anything from them. And ..." Read review

The ultimate house and garden store

AdvantagesA large variety of items on offer

DisadvantagesPricey and absolutely no facilities for kids

"...written December 2000 I first visited Homebase with my parents and uncle in 1978. We spent 3 hours there and I spent all the time walking aimlessly feeling frustrated, hungry and totally fed up. No wonder adults end up the way they do. So it was with some trepidation that I visited Homebase after a gap of 21 years. Almost every item for the house and garden is available eg made-to-measure curtains, bathroom fittings, paint, tools, kitchenware, ..." Read review

Terrible time with paint

Advantages-

Disadvantages-

"...that I always find that Homebase is quite expensive compared to B&Q. I also had a very bad experience there. I bought some paints with a friend who wanted to paint her room in her flat. We must have spent over £50 for under coates, gloss paint etc. There wasn't enough room in the car park so my friend had parked her car down the road. On our war to the road, the plastic bag snapped and the paint burst opened. It was all over the pavement and ..." Read review

Good advice

AdvantagesGood Advice, large range of stock and advice leaflets

DisadvantagesNot enough staff

"I went into Homebase the other day to buy a drill, for some DIY jobs around the home. Previously I had visited all the other various DIY shops just to compare prices and get advice on what sort of drill I would need for my various tasks. To cut a long story short I couldn't find anyone to talk to about drills in the other major DIY stores and when I did they didn't know much at all. But when I went in Homebase they found me their 'tool specialist' ..." Read review

Money off coupons

Advantagesgreat savings

Disadvantagessold out of certain products at times

"...the road is our local homebase store that is worth a visit. A large car park out side where you can normally get a car parking space without any trouble inside the store is great with many different items to choose from. There are about twenty isles stacked with almost every thing you should need for your house. Outside the back is the garden and building materials. On the way in there is a big customer services desk area where they are very helpful. If ..." Read review

A bit pricey

AdvantagesNone

DisadvantagesLimited product range, Expensive, didn't feel comfortable

"...afraid I could not recommend Homebase as one which I would use from choice. I found the product range limited and the prices on the expensive side. I felt that, as Homebase is part of Sainsbury's, they were aiming at the same type of customer who use their grocery stores. My impression of the Sainsbury shopper, in the main, is that they are probably not the sort of people who would be DIY'ers. They strike me as aspiring to be 'middle class', though, ..." Read review

Just another DIY shop .

AdvantagesLoyalty card ,useful for frequent shoppers , quality goods.

DisadvantagesLack of choice , more expensive than competitors

"...to choose from , eg. Homebase , B & Q , Wickes , Focus Do It All etc. , so I tend to shop around for things. If you go by their TV ads , Homebase will be the only place to go ( providing you have enough hours in the day ! ). Experience however , tells you differently. I tend to find them expensive , even when doing those 10% off days . Additionally , their range of goods could also be improved upon . This said though certain areas such as housewares ..." There's no place like Homebase

AdvantagesAlmost everything you should need for home/garden improvements

DisadvantagesI keep finding stuff I didn't know I needed

"...gazing around the shelves at Homebase than I have at home putting all the stuff I bought there to good use, I thought I should share my new obsession with you. Firstly I am in the process of sorting out the garden. When we moved in it was a jungle of brambles and bine weed. 7 years later it is almost bramble free, but the only way to get rid of bine weed is to move, and that's not an option. So slowly I am doing a section at a time.. this ..." Read review

Do you save when you spend

Advantagescan shop online now

Disadvantagesexspensive

"...when you buy something at Homebase and use your loyalty card? i have held the card for about 2 years now and yes i get the vouchers come through the post every three months. But would i have done better shopping around? Well i carried out a small test, that was i needed to decorate my bedroom. I needed Wallpaper, Lights and a Fire surround. First off to Homebase, it was on a 10% off day so everything was 10% cheaper to start with. Armed with ..." Read review

Too expensive in an emergency

AdvantagesGood range and stock levels

DisadvantagesSpecialist products are expensive

"Homebase is a place I like to visit which is a good job because I seem to go there about once a week. They have some great value products that really cover the necessities in life. I have noticed too that the range of products that they do is growing monthly. The customer service is slow and staff can be rather unwilling to help which I find frustrating at times. Especially as I worked for Homebase for a number of years. I think the customer service ..." Read review

spend and save, save, save

Advantagessaves you cash by being loyal

Disadvantagesonly at homebase

"...new home. We started using Homebase because it was our nearest DIY store and linked into their “Spend and Save” reward scheme. This is just brilliant. In addition to them having near monthly 10% off days, which saves a small fortune, the return with the spend and save card is great too. It starts off as 4% back, and rises to 10% back, depending on how much you spend. Over the last year, I have now received £55 in Homebase vouchers, ..." Read review

pull your pants up Homebase

Advantagesno good if they don!t deliver what you want when you want it!

Disadvantagesas above

"...recently made a purchase from Homebase online and it left something to be desired! Whilst the quality of Homebase goods has never been a problem to me,you get what you pay for afterall, in theory anyway. Due to a dodgy car and intense lazyness i decided to purchase heavy items including paint and a steam cleaning machine at Homebase online. I paid a premium delivery charge for delivery after 6.pm so that i would be at home and have some strong ..." Read review

Homebase Stores

AdvantagesGreat variety, friendly staff, weekly offers and clearance bays!

DisadvantagesSome items can be dearer but they price match & refund you 10% of the difference!!!

"I have worked in Homebase in the past and despite being happy to leave employment there, it is actually a really good shop. I used to spy lots of nice things that I wanted. In my opinion it has a lot more variety of items than the likes of B&Q...stocking diy tools and electricals, many varieties of paint (Dulux, Laura Ashley, Crown, Homebase Home of Colour etc), wallpaper (by many top designers like Linda Barker, Bowen etc not just Homebase own brand), ..." Service of a byegone age

AdvantagesGreat service

Disadvantagesits not every where

"I have tried most of the diy places like B+Q and DO IT ALL, but today I took a visit to my local home base store to see if it offered anything different from the others. The store was well laid out and had plenty of room in the isles to get about if you use a large trolley. What suprised me the most was how helpful the staff were when I asked a question unlike most diy stores you go in where it is hard just to find a member of staff. With their ..." Read review

Quick review of Homebase (Shop)

"Last Monday we ordered and paid for some garden furniture at our local Homebase store. Today, one week later, we were told that this furniture was no longer available, and was offered a discount of a different piece of furniture.(which we do not want) In this computer age I expect stores to have more efficient stock control. Annoyingly I know the same furniture is still being sold on their on-line site (but they say it is a different company! so they cannot fulfill my order from that source. Why is that not made clear on their website. What a shabby way to treat customers.
