    Advantages Advantages Quality, reliability, performance.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Uninspiring looks, on this model year.

This review on the Honda will be aimed at the budget second hand car market, of which there are many good examples to be had for less than £500. The Honda Accord, I recon, is one of the best cars to be had from this era and price. This model of Accord is a 2.0 16v multipoint injection, single overhead cam, (operating all the 16 valves), PGM-FI engine. First impressions of the car (depending on what you’ve been used to), can be a bit on the boring looking side. It’s all there, but it’s a bit of a bog standard looking 4 door 5 seater family saloon with all the bits in the right places. Fine for ... more

    Advantages Advantages That engine, mmm...

Disadvantages Disadvantages Less roomy than VW, service intervals

I may have already detailed my first drive in a Honda Accord on Ciao, but that was just the enjoyment of a weekend with a test car. Now I have the real thing to throw superlatives at. It took a while in coming but we’ve had the car for three weeks now and I’ve had the pleasure of driving it every day for the past week. This is the Accord from an owner’s perspective. When I left home for university I went into halls with people I had never known, but a lot of my friends moved in with people they had known all their lives and while they may have thought they knew them well ... more

Advantages Advantages Lovely car to drive, nuns notwithstanding.

Disadvantages Disadvantages The fog light switch is obscured by the steering wheel, so you might...perhaps...forget you've got the fogs on.

I’d like to get started on this little journey by dispelling a few myths. Myth 1: Honda Accords are old men’s cars Myth 2: Hondas are boring Myth 3: Honda Accords are only good for ferrying the family about. In order, then: #1) I am not old…I just look that way due to a hard life! #2) The Total Cup 1997 was won by Rob Gravett in…a Honda Accord! Additionally, Accords were 5th and 6th in the British Touring Car Championships in 1997, 3rd in 1998, 4th in 2000 etc etc. Honda also make F1 engines for 2 teams; Jordan and BAR AND Honda build the utterly beautiful 276 bhp NSX. #3) I don’t have to ... more

Advantages Advantages A gook looker that gives real driver satisfaction

Disadvantages Disadvantages Inferior build quality on the inside

As far as I'm aware, the Honda Accord is the best selling car in the USA. Selling in massive numbers is usually the sign of a very unexceptional and frankly boring car (see the Toyota Corolla for the perfect example). Although the new Accord isn't exactly radical looking in its design, it is in its own way quite distinguished and indeed far more sporty looking than the VW Passat or the Nissan Primera. The Accord may eclipsed in terms of sales by the spectacularly ordinary Opel/Vauxhall Vectra and the terrible Ford Mondeo but at least it's a fresher face when we see one. Hondas are always much ... more

Advantages Advantages Very fast, well made

Disadvantages Disadvantages Power band too narrow

I returned from holiday and faced a mountain of mail. Amongst the usual collection of bills and junk mail was an envelope from the Daily Telegraph with a pleasant surprise in it. A competition I had entered earlier in the year included a prize to win a weekend holiday break at a luxury hotel with the use of a top-of-the-range Honda Accord 2.2I V-Tec. No sooner back from one break and I could look forward to another. A few days later I contacted Honda UK and set up the dates when we would have our break and which dealer would supply the car. The date was a month away and having arranged to put ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Servicing cost, spares cost

Recently we decided that our Land Rover Discovery was getting just a bit heavy for all that pavement mounting and although exploring up the gravel path was a little daunting it wasn’t absolutely essential to have all that kit to do it. We have had a Honda Civic for 5 years now (see that review) and it has proved itself an absolute little cracker of a car, so we test-drove the Accord a while ago. At the time we were offered £17.5 K for the Land Rover and didn’t like that price so walked away from the deal. 4 months later we had a test drive in the 1.8I Accord Sporting –which ... more

    Advantages Advantages Comfort

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Fuel consumption

We bought a 2 litre 1996 model in May last year. It had only 15000 miles on the clock. It is without doubt the most enjoyable car I have ever owned. Let's start with the little things that I like about it. The colour: a beautiful shade of metallic green. The electric windows, mirrors and sunroof are so convenient and easy to use. The upholstery is pleasing to look at and comfortable. I don't know what it is, but it has a feeling of quality to it. Perhaps more importantly is the engine and performance of the car. The engine is very smooth and quiet. It is not a torquey motor, but if you get the ... more

This is the second Honda Accord that I have owned. I currently have the hatchback model. The car is very quiet, very reliable and has good acceleration. It is an excellent car for cruising without any strain. My previous model didn't have cruise control but this one does. Not very useful around rural Norfolk but is good on motorways. Not too many colours to choose from. I have had the black but currently have one that looks wine coloured! Seats very comfortable and drivers seat is easy to adjust. Good range of extras come with the standard package. I can recommend the Accord. ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages bmw / audi better ?

my friend who has got an accord has written the following for you all ! : steve It is easy to see why the Accord is consistently one of the top selling cars in the country. While it does nothing exeptionally well, it does everything average or better, allowing it to appeal to a large audience. Throw in a reasonable price and legendary reliability and you've got a formula to appeal to the masses. Which, unfortunately, is what Honda has to do. Honda is one of the only small independent manufacturers left, so it must build its bread and butter cars to appeal to as many people as possible. This is ... more

Advantages Advantages Good family car, plenty of room compared to most cars nowadays

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive to run (petrol), Handling is dreadful after 40mph, not really modernised

This is a dreadful car if you are like me and don't have all the money in the world. It can be OK as a slow moving family car but when it comes down to using it on motorways or dual carriage ways the handling is terrible. When you begin to hit over 40mph the handling can become difficult, I had nearly crashed when swerving out of the way of a car coming onto the main road and I had lost control, I have driven other cars before which are great for handling but as soon as you swerve out and back into a lane you have to carry on swerving until you eventually gain control again. The main problem I ... more
