Advantages Advantages Cheap, Cheap, Cheap, low maintenance

Disadvantages Disadvantages 250cc, once people buy them, they usually keep them

Yep the old 250 Superdream really is ideal for a new biker. If you have just passed the DAS or want to return to biking after an absence you couldn't do much better. Very cheap, both to buy and run, and insurance companies like them as well it will not matter that much when(?) you drop it or fall off! The bike is taller than most 250cc bikes, giving it the 'feel' of a bigger bike, so when you eventually transfer to a 600 or above it will not feel that strange. Most people I know who have bought one keep it as their 'winter hack', because it is so cheap to repair and seems to run forever ... more

Advantages Advantages Economical, easy to work on, bounces well

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Undeserved popular image

Just to prove how excellent these bikes are, myself and my other half have four of them. Two of them are our everyday bikes, one is being restored and one is being modified slightly into a flat-tracker....none cost more than £50 and cost about £150 a year to run, including insurance. Both of us have big bikes for the long hauls, when 250cc's isn't quite enough from the comfort point of view - for everything else, daily commutes, local scratching runs, local rallies, we use the dreams. They have enough power to cope in modern traffic and are extremely flickable, making peg dragging very easy ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, good for a 250

Disadvantages Disadvantages They're beginning to age..........

This is probably the best 250cc 4 stroke bike from the 80's (and late 70s') Mine is 1981, blue and has covered 60000 miles. It needs little work to keep going, and is as reliable as a packhorse. People who own them swear by them, literally at times, but they really are reliable. Things that tend to go wrong include electrics and rust penetration, they really do rust. Spares are impecably cheap to buy, things like tyres about 20.00 each, and used spares even better! You ca pick a whole bike up for 80.00 if you're careful! Alot of people use these for winter hacks aswell, or the slightly bigger ... more

How could I resist writing a little review on this a little bike that was a best seller in it's time due to our counties mad laws. This the Honda 250 Dream machine was introduced in a fanfare of publicity to an unsuspecting public. A shock replacement for the previous 250 Dream machine so ugly no teenager wanted it so replaced after only 1 year. This bike was designed for teenagers back in the days when L plates allowed you to drive a 249cc machine for as long as you liked and as much as you liked. It has an upright riding position quite comfortable over long distance with a 3 gallon tank ... more

I had one years ago, it was the best bike i ever had. It was cheap to insure and very forgiving. The seat was extremely comfortable and it was easy to maintain for a complete novice female mechanic like me! I think that the Superdream will become a classic in time as the design will not date and it is easy to work on. Parts are easy to source and are not expensive and with Honda reliablilty built in you can't lose. In my opinion, this is a fantastic first bike after passing the bike test. It has a big enough engine to give you the power you want and the speed you need to keep up with traffic ... more
