...second hand 2 year old Honda CBR600F with 6k on the clock. It's the 2002 fuel injected version. My first bike was a Suzuki SV650S which I got after passing my Direct Access in 2002. The Honda was something of a step up from the SV, which was starting to limit my learning on account of its budget suspension. I fancied something a little bit sharper to challenge me a bit more. I looked around at the sports 600s and even considered a 900 for a while ... ...a Kawasaki ZX6r and the Honda CBR600F. The reliability issues with carb icing on the Kwak led me to buy the Honda. £4300 later I was the proud owner of a brand-ish new CBR600F in navy blue /silver.

I had expected the 600cc four to smoke the pants off my old SV, as it turned out, the healthy mid range that the twin had was gone, replaced by a fairly strong midrange, but with a screaming top end accompanied by a rather addictive airbox snarl ...

...dad owned an E registered Honda CB350S which was ok. Looked standard, no fairing, red and black and in no way stood out from a crowd. As many people tend to do Vinnie (my dad and that’s short for Vincent) went down to the local Motorcycle shop, which he did used to work for many years ago, before it got taken over and made some enquiries.

Now convinced it was the right bike for him it was now onto the second phase. Bare in mind this was all spur of the moment and he was just looking for a new bike possibly to invest in sometime in the near future, he asked what type of part exchange deal he could get. Advantages: well built, reliable, practical and comfortable. Disadvantages: A bit bland
In 1987 Honda introduced the CBR600, which is one of the longest running motorcycle models. Most bikes are redesigned and given a new model name, the CBR has had three major revisions and kept it name. This is probably because the CBR was the top selling motorcycle in most years since its introduction and although the latest looks vastly different from the first it is still, at heart, a CBR - which is a bike that is well built, reliable, practical, ... ...nine year old bike. Honda quality also shows up with little touches like all the levers still working smoothly with very little wobbling, all the panels come off and go back on easily – and fit back on accurately.
I am now considering replacing my bike, and I can’t think of any other choice other than a newer model CBR600, an FX or FY. Deep down I think I want an R6 or GSXR600 (or, if I forget about running costs - an R1 or GSXR1000), ...

The Honda CBR600 really is the best all-rounder. I am now on my second and would not consider any other. Pillion comfort is essential, as my wife goes everywhere with me, and she remains cramp free while other wifes/girlfriends on other sports bikes are left in pain after long rides. The performance is more than adequate for normal road riding and the handling is superb. I've been riding bikes for nearly twenty years and I still reach my limit of ...

...So what's sp good.
Well Honda have been making these bikes for well over a decade, and have refined it and tuned it to perfection
The handling is spot on, forgiving even.
It's reliability and build quality is great - nothing has gone wrong whatsoever in 13000 miles and nearly 2 years use.
Very comfortable, so good for touring, but fast enough to keep up with all but the most modern of sportsters. I'm sure the 1999 and onwards versions are even ...

I have not owned a bike for about 30 years (my last machine was a Z900 Kawasaki). I decided last year to take the plunge and get back in the saddle. I read all the road tests available on every sports bike going, and after numerous test rides I bought a 1998 CBR600FW. This machine has been a revelation. It is nothing like the Z900, which was an ill handling and sluggish beast. The CBR600 is absoultely perfect for anyone new to the world of sports ... ...be docile and is easy to ride in town yet on the track (i.e. track days)it can mix it with the best. The riding position is an excellent compromise between commuting and open road blasting. The the machine is totally reliable, and totally predictable in terms of handling. Finally, the build quality is the best in its class. Although the CBR600 is a little down on power compared to the Yamaha R6 or Suzuki GSXR600, it more than makes up for this in ...

I do not own this bike and have never done so, so my review is very subjectivly based on the few i have ridden over the last 6 years. A ruff 1999, 2002, very well kept 2003 and a showroom 2005. about 25 hours riding time in total.

UP TO A POINT. but my life is worth a lot to me and I would say to anyone thinking of buyingthis bike, if you ever ride this bike fast, even just once you shoukd think carfully, on the limit this bike is very japanesse, tame untill it gets a little out of shape and then it can bite you back, and spit you into te armco. there is a "tremendus" lack of feel when going very fast compaired to some other bikes, I found the front a little skitish ...

Well, its been the best fun i've had on 2 wheels, and i've had a few bikes.
I am only 5'7" and so reaching the ground on the CBR is a bit of a struggle, but once you have got used to that throwing the mere 174kg around the twisties is second to none.

CBRs have been made for 13 years. That's why I bought the 600. Apart from this, the bike is light, easy to handle and rides as if it is reading your mind. If you are looking for a first bike, this is the one. Everything that your friends tell you about this bike is true.
