Honda Civics. Hmmm.. When my friend said he was putting his 1997 1.4i 3door Civic in as part-exchange for his new MG (boy racer!) and did I want to buy it.. I thought "but isn't that just an old-man car?".
At the time, I was 22, driving a 5 door non-turbo diesel Escort (biggest mistake of my car-owning history) and looking to change cars. I'd just moved nearer work and didn't want the smokey diesel any more, so I agreed to have a look.
As far as ... ...my Escort, my basic 1.4i Honda Civic is equipped with (extra to the Escort):
Electric windows
Remote Central Locking
Immobiliser
Electric Sunroof
Electric wing mirrors
All very nice things to have, I'm sure you'll agree.
A quick search on the Parker's Owner's Guide gave me the vital information I needed: the insurance group was an insurance group 7 - which may have been a little high given that a Vauxhall Astra 1.8i or 2.0 DTI is classed in ...

Advantages: Very reliable, good engine, comfortable ride, good interiors, looks good, holds value reasonably well Disadvantages: Some see as 'old persons' car, can be too low for some people, expensive services from Honda garages
...we came across a blue Honda Civic 1.4 16v on a private sale from an honest looking couple. Now I thought 'Bit of an old mans car to be fair' - and I could not have been more wrong! The curves of the Civic are very aesthetically pleasing and the test drive put my thoughts to shame! The engine was quiet, the ride was smooth and the interior was comfortable and clean. I was also shocked by the kick of the small engine - aided by the 16v - and all in ... ...with the Civic are the expensive Honda services - I was once recently quoted £256 for the full service before they even thought about doing anything else on the car if need be. But I guess if the cars never go wrong then they need the money from somewhere!! ...

...and say "Andy, what do Honda make?" I would same "Motorbikes, silly!" I would not automatically say "Cars". I was watching a programme last night and discovered they are the leader in the Outboard boat engine market too! Honda claims not to do things by halves - and it's hard to argue. Honda has recently introduced a new Sport trim grade for the three-door hatch. It now has alloy wheels and a leather-rimmed steering.
As mentioned earlier, equipment levels are good, with all models featuring driver and passenger airbags and seatbelt pretensioners as well as an immobiliser. Anti-lock brakes, electric windows, air conditioning, a sunroof and power steering are standard on most models too. The prices remain ...

Having bought a Honda civic 1.4 E from new, having had a vauxhall corsa 1.2 beforehand, I was extremely excited at the prospect of Honda ownership. In terms of looks, the civic is a great looking car and at a very reasonable price of £10,500 (pre-registered with delivery miles) I was very happy to be signing on the dotted line.
The car itself is a nippy little number - significantly more so than the corsa 1.2 I had previously. The engine likes to ... ...the highly capable technicians at Honda and there were no related problems thereafter. Honda delaers, or at least those I've dealt with, are generally good in terms of price and customer service, however, if you can find a private garage authorised to stamp your service book, you'll save loads - guaranteed!
Before fitting aftermarket wheels, I found the standard wheels to be great at soaking up bumps and pot holes on the road and road noise was ...

I recently purchaseda Haond Civic 1.4 Vision which had been kitted out by the dealer to look like a R Type.
When in the showrrom I actually though it was a R Type and coulnt believe the price (£11999) Ex Demo Model. This was great as although I would love an R Type my bank-manager wouldnt!

The car is fantastic and the cental gear stick on the dash is really easy to use, if a little strange at first. Handles really well , not to light, not too heavy. Im not a car nut and so dont know the specifics of the car but did enquire as to what the change in looks would cost if requested on a normal 1.4 civic Vision?
£1500 was the answer I recieved and this includes, skirts, spoiler, low front bumper. Also 17" wheels, Fox evo 4's ...

...I bought a 1999 Honda Civic 1.4i in June after owning my previous car, a Vauxhall Astra for 5 years. I paid £7995 for an ex management vehicle with just 13,000 on the clock. It was in near A1 condition, both inside and outside. I was also given a full 3 year guarantee.

The car was clean, well equipped ... ...was impressive to say the least. I had never driven in such comfort and was surprised at how quiet the car was. My mind was made up and I decided to go ahead with the purchase.
5 months and 10,000 miles later, the car still runs as it did on the first day. It has been very reliable with no problems. I have returned the car to the dealer once due to a slight rumbling noise. They knew exactly what was the cause and within one hour, I was back on the ...

...2007 second hand from a Honda main dealer. The car is relatively frugal for a petrol car doing around 38 mpg. This isn't bad because most of my motoring is short, stop/start stuff. On the one long trip I did, I got nearly 48 mpg.
The car is incredibly roomy especially for rear seat passengers although this might be at the expense of boot space. Still, it can easily be turned into a 2 door hatch with loads of space.
Comfort for the driver is fine ...

Advantages: loads of space inside and in the boot and a nice drive Disadvantages: bit pricey
Being a family man I dont think there's a better car out there. The space inside is incredible, with the gear box being on the dash board and not near the hand break its the only car where if i'm sitting a passanger i've got plenty of room without my knees hitting the drivers hand everytime they want to change gears.
To drive this car is very smooth and feels quite solid, the suspension is superb, i've gone over speed bumps with other cars and they ... ...might only be a 1.4 but this car still feels quite powerful.
For all you other family guys you'll love the size of the boot as well, its simply enormous i've seen other cars such as the vauxhall astra and the ford focas and their boots are minute in comparison.
The only drawback is I think Honda's tend to be overpriced and unless its a type r civic will always have that kind of grandad image, but for what it is I think its a great car and i dont ...

Advantages: Reliability, versatility, un-beatable cabin space for class, balanced handling, bargain used! Disadvantages: A little thirsty. Blandness I suppose but almost invisible to thieves apparantly (touch wood0
Good all-rounder in terms of looks, reliability and versatility. Cabin controls where they should be, nothing fancy but spacious (I am 6'3" so some Japanese cars have been problematic) and easy to clean. A/C could be colder but great for de-misting, I am more of a sunroof man anyway which is a nice touch. 2 front and 2 side airbags and reassuringly confident seat belt tensioners startle unwitting passengers but glad they are there.
More pulling ... ...towing if a little thirsty although I believe a VTEC model was available. Did I mention reliability? Laugh at stricken motorists in their yank tanks and beamers. Keep maintenance up to date and it will never let you down. Slight understeer problems cornering at speed and a rather wide turning circle at low speed. Wing mirrors are a little small for my tastes and reversing visibility and maneuverability are average. Fairly stiff independent suspension ...

Advantages: Reliable car, and good build quality Disadvantages: poor visability while reversing and heavy fuel consumption
I drive an S reg Honda 14i Auto and I did own a 15LSi when the new model came out in 1992 and I made the mistake of thinking that the 14i Auto would be as good as the 15LSi. But I was to be proved wrong.
The road handling and build quality is good, but the car is let down by the 4 speed automaticgearbox which means the car is very heavy on fuel consumption 25 miles per gal. around town and only 36 miles per gal. at a steady 56 mph.
Reversing is ... ...of the rear body work and the side panels block your view also while reversing.
I will say that I like Honda's idea that the wheel trims are held in place bt the wheel nuts and means you are not going to lose or have a wheel trim stolen as easily as other cars.

I've owned many cars, believe me. I used to change my car every 2 years up until I got Sydney (my Civic). Mainly because I tend to buyer cheap, older, second-hand cars, which don't last much longer than 2 years. I refuse to pay top dollar for a new car, which only sits on the driveway depreciating in value. I bought Syd, my first Honda, when he was 7 years old. I never thought it'd have him more than two years, not least because I'm not a 'delicate' ... ...the engines somewhat. But here we are 5 years on and Syd's still going a treat. He's a piece of work. He owes me absolutely nothing and still drives like a powerhouse after 70,000 miles. He hasn't given me any trouble whatsoever in the 5 years (okay, he did just the once when he developed some electrical fault with the alarm which kept draining the battery. Solution: Disconnect the alarm. Result: Back to perfect.) Tax and insurance are cheap and ...

...and have been given a Honda Civic. First impressions are generally quite good, for example it is not a bad loking car - I admit it is hardly in the Ferrari class when it comes to styling but for a four door car it passes. It is also quite quiet, I've been on the M6 today in it and ... ...gripe really is the acceleration does feel a tad sluggish but may be it is because I am not used to it and expected something more.

...prices begin to tumble the Honda Civic Sport (1.4i 3 Door) at a shade under £10,000 was definitely worth a look. The car comes with alloy wheels, full electrics including sunroof, power steering, etc. To drive, it handles very well, with the typically quiet and reliable Honda engineering. ...RELIABILITY: As with any Honda you are likely to buy, it has top class reliability. Honda's have been in my family for years and we've never had any trouble. The MOT is simply a formality.
ECONOMY: I get about 47mpg on a long journey and maybe 35ish around town. COMFORT: I find the civic extreamly comfortable and easy to drive. The gearbox is heavenly, as is the clutch. The seats hug you nicely and theres loads of room in the back.... even if you've ... ...RESIDUAL VALUE: About as good as it gets in this class.
DRIVING EXPERIANCE: As I said the gearbox is beautiful and the car is very easy to drive. The only bad thing I can say about the car is that it lacks power especially when you're on the motorway in 5th travelling say 60mph and you want to accelerate. You could be waiting a while. The car corners well and if you're into the boy racer scene theres lots of engine mods available.
