Honda civic 1.6 sport - a good buy.

Advantages: Looks, reliability, performance, economy
Disadvantages: some little niggles (see text)

...I've stayed faithful to the Honda brand. Honda engines are very reliable and I have yet to have any problems in this regard. Moreover, the dealers are generally easily accessible and most offer a relatively high level of customer service throughout - whether your car's in for a service or just a new set of wiper blades. The 1.6 engine, as well as being reliable is also economical. I drive the car pretty hard and it still returns in the region of ...
...is easily available from your Honda dealer if required - all you pay is for insurance cover on the car. Over the last 9 months I've had to top the engine up a good few times with oil - the VTEC engine is known to be more thirsty than other engines but not overly so - just keep your eye on the oil level. The 1.6 VTEC engine is strong and the exhaust emits a nice note when your pushing it that bit harder. Otherwise, the car is quite in normal driving ...

...class but it was the Honda Civic that stood out amongst the rest and for just £13,500 I was able to purchase the 1.6 SE Executive model. Here are the technical bits that mean nothing to me! It has 4 cylinders with 4 valves per cylinder. Maximum horsepower is 110@5600, maximum power kW/RPM is 81@5600 and maximum torque Nm is 152@4300. It has a manual transmission and a maximum speed of 185. Acceleration (0-100km/h) is 10.6 seconds. The Honda Civic ...

Honda has achieved very high standards of safety with the Civic and boasts driver and passenger front airbags, side airbags, four wheel ABS, electronic brake distribution and high mounted brake light. The car is also fitted with an immobiliser and alarm and has remote central locking with dead bolts. Boot space is good and will fit even a quite large pushchair along with your shopping. Additional space can be achieved by folding ...

...none of these problems, and Honda was hardly expecting a young hoodlum like myself to be let loose at the wheel of their "SE" models - and normally I wouldn't even complain, except for one thing. The Civic suffers from the princess-and-the-pea syndrome. Should some thoughtless council worker leave some road paint - or worse, a cats-eye - on the road, the Honda will launch itself into the air in surprise as it runs over it. This is a car that for ...
...had no experience of the Honda dealerships so far, and touch wood, won't do in the near future beyond standard checks. No major depreciation issues, NCAP rating of four stars front and side, and even three out of four for pedestrian safety. Nifty double-locking feature, as well as an alarm fitted to the SE models, but it wouldn't hurt to have an immobiliser fitted if only to lower insurance premiums. ABS, central locking, a sprinkling of airbags ...

Advantages: Fuel consumption, luxurious for the price
Disadvantages: None that I know

I recently bought the 2001 Honda Civic Coupe (4 door). To be honest with you it wasn't a hard decision. I have owned two Honda's previously- 1988 Prelude and 1994 Accord. I knew going in that I wanted to Honda Civic Coupe EX. There are four Civic Coupes available, each different mostly because of options. We were comfortable through the duration of the trip (well as comfortable as you can be driving on a long trip). ...

Civic is mix of civility and rude pleasure!

Advantages: Reliable, good performance and ergonomics
Disadvantages: Poor steering feedback, poor space for rear-seat pasengers

I've had the facelifed Civic for 10 months now, so long enough to form a worthwhile opinion. In November of last year I was looking for a medium sized hatch. I considered all the usual suspects: Renault Megane (too French), Ford Focus (too commonplace), VW Golf (too 'flabby'), Vauxhall Astra - facelifted model not out for a few months, Toyota Corolla (too bland). Then I noticed the facelifted Civic... To my eyes the 3dr Civic is a real looker - ...
...it a confident and sporty look, especially when paired with the alloys. Inside, none of the childish flashy graphics or 'in your face' red - just an aluminium effect console with stylish black upholstery (with added bonus of looking fresh and clean several months later). Getting in the car, the first thing you notice is the dash mounted gearlever - strange at first but after 5 minutes you wonder why every car isn't this way. On the road, the mid-range ...

Honda state the fuel tank can hold 50 litres of petrol but I've put in just over 40 litres before and it's full to the brim, and that's with virtually an empty tank beforehand. This is the best car i've ever had.

Advantages: Good engine, reliability and nearly sporty
Disadvantages: suposidly succums to rust (but no evidence yet)

I have the EX model (thats not listed here) The Civic has comfortable seats in both front and back. Both seats are the perfect mix of strong and soft. The rear seat, though supportive, is very tight, legroom is scarce and three people often complain (I just tell them I won’t take them again!). The front sunscreen blocks visibility slightly for me, but I am quite tall (about 6’ 2”). The Civic's ride is a little bit choppy, but ...
...cabin, but you can still talk at normal levels and be heard. The car is fun to drive. The VTEC Four provides peppy performance without a compromise in fuel economy. (I averaged 53 mpg in mixed driving.) It also provides precise, quick steering and powerful braking. The Civic’s boot isn't huge, but it's not very small, either. You can't hold your skis in it, but I have found it has ample space for a few large suitcases or rolly bags. If you ...

Updated April 2007: I sold my Civic last year after 82000 miles. At that point still no faults apart from the ABS warning light which came on then disappeared after a week. Highly recommended for build quality and reliability. Paintwork still spot on, no rattles or squeaks. ...by the dealer. Also, due to the lack of a driver's heel mat I wore a hole in the carpet at 30000 miles. This was changed by the dealer with no quibbles. The dealer always offer a courtesy car and clean the car when it is serviced. The plus points are the superb gearchange. Although it is unusual in coming from the fascia it only takes 5 minutes to get used to it. When you drive another car you realise how brilliant it is. It would be nice to have ...

God damn honda ... bloomin japanese companies ruining the british industry ...? not so - honda have a massive investment in the UK with a huge car plant down in swindon turning out loads of civics! My civic is a 94L 4 door VTI, not a particularly common VTI - most tended to be 3 door hatches rather than 4 door saloons. Just goes to show how wrong you can be ... having driven both I can tell you that the slightly longer wheelbase and better weight ...
...1.6 engine was the first to get over 100bhp per litre in a production car - yup, thats 168bhp off a 1.6! Normally the car runs in a more economical mode but when the revs hit the 5700 VTEC point the engine changes into a raging BEAST with an enourmous roar and powers off down the road. Gear changes come thick and fast and if you use all of the VTEC range from 5700 to the 8000 redline you'll find that each gear will only knock the revs back to just ...

Civic 1.6 Exec model shines

Advantages: full luxury and lovely to drive
Disadvantages: can't think of any

...My daughter works for Honda so I didn't even have to purchase my Civic 1.6 Exec model, it comes to me as a n 'associate' car so all I have to do is pay a monthly fee and I get a brand new Civic every 10 months with insurance and tax paid, all I have to do is put petrol in it....:-) Having had a Yaris for 5 years and being used to a small car I was a bit concerned that the Civic might be too much car for me but I needn't have worried. The driving ...
...the Civic and the effort Honda have put into the safety aspect. A tank of petrol lasts me about 10 days and I do around 25 miles a day so no real problems with consumption though it is much higher than my smaller cars but what more do I want when the engine is that much larger..!! I am impressed by the interior of this car as it has all leather seats, drinks holders, great carrying capacity with the seats down and bags of boot space with the seats ...

The power really is a dream

Advantages: Small and very nippy
Disadvantages: the boot could be a bit bigger

...recently purchased a brand new honda civic as a second car mainly for my wife to use, this was after great research. In my opinion, the car is everything we need. With Honda's renouned reliability for engine assembly i decided to go for it. From a very nippy 1.6 vtec engine to a spacious back seat area its a great little car. The interesting thing about this car is that the channel running from the gear box to the back seat you find in most cars ...
...of space. Any Honda drivers will know that the gear shift on this car is actually on the dashboard and it doesnt look or feel out of place after sitting in the car for a short while. The dash board is quite a nice feature also. The dials are backlit and so can be a really soft glow to a dazzling illuminous orange colour, this can be adjusted on the clock itself. If buying the SE model, you will get a host of features for your money ranging from a ...

The Civic Family

Advantages: Quite spacious, modern interior for its year. Small compact car good for around town.
Disadvantages: Did not like the feel of the steering system.

The Honda Civic has been around for quite a few years now, and this model, in my opinion is where the more european style first started coming into the shape of this car. The rear lights on this model came out with clear chrome for the VTX model which definatly added some flavour. The interior is a level up from the 2000 model facelift EK model, and dash layout also, gear stick on the lower dash is definatly the first thing you will notice, which ...
...good for this car, with added space when folding down seats and removing parcel tray. Engine performance is what you should expect from a 1.6L but is very fuel efficient. From driving this vehicle myself, the one let-down was the EPS (electronic power steering). Just does not have the conventional feel compared to the hydraulic system. This car is definatly a nice one though, if your a fan of the Civics, and are considering buying one, definatly ...

Do I buy the Type s or the Type R

Advantages: Good Looker and Cheap Insurance
Disadvantages: Handling

...than reliable I turned to Honda for the first time. The car is a pleasure to look at, but upgrading to 17" wheels was the mistake. The handling was twitching and less than confident around bends and corners even at low speeds. Purchased as a 54 plate, three months on the car is being sold. It has loosened up and gives a nice burst of speed when needed. The brakes are alittle grinding and it pulled unevenly when breaking. The interior has clean ...
...player or tape deck but the sound is good. Now you ask why didnt I go with the type R, well insurance came in over £500 more - now I've done the under 30 high insurance and wasnt about to go it again over 30! The service from the sales guy was 2nd to none - it was fantastic - could not have asked for a better service. To summarise, a good quality car but anyone with the idea they want a nice looking, cheap sporty lookalike with the benefit of being ...

Advantages: Good built, reliability, smooth ride, good economy, funky interior
Disadvantages: Have'nt found any

...Even so, I knew that Honda cars are built to last. Its the way they engineer the cars - quality and lots of it. The car its self has given me no problems what so ever. One of the other things I like about this car is because of the raised gear box, there is no console between the front seats, again re-enforcing the feeling of space in the cabin. The other civic we have has a leather interior, well worth it for a cold morning (as it has heated front seats). The interior is black leather and gives quite ...
