...Having said that, the little Honda Jazz has one terrific ace up its' exhaust pipe - it consistently heads all of the customer satisfaction surveys, primarily the well respected J.D. Power one, which concentrates on reliability and owner satisfaction. This is no mean feat and an achievement of which Honda are justifiably proud. WHICH SPECIFIC MODEL?
I have driven all three models of Jazz, the basic 1.2, the manual 1.4 and the car that I am reviewing ... ...last week. On arriving at Honda Chiswick, handing over my Accord for a 50,000 mile service, the service receptionist asked me if I would like a manual or automatic courtesy car. Knowing that the fleet of manual Jazz courtesy cars are bottom of the range 1.2 litre cars, without air conditioning, I opted to take the 1.4 automatic.
At this point I should say that, having driven many different ones over the last twenty years, I have never been a fan ...

...but then along came the Honda Jazz…
Criteria 1: Light and easy to drive
My Honda Jazz drives like a dream. It's classed as a 'supermini MPV', meaning that I get to sit quite high up which gives me a great view of the road, adding to ease of driving. The power-steering is light as a feather and I swear could be done one-fingered. All controls are easy to reach and easy to use. Visibility is very good, especially through the enormous front windscreen. ... ...driver and side airbags. Honda also expect the Jazz to attain 4 stars (i.e. very good indeed) in the euro safety tests.
9/10
Criteria 8: Good looks
The best word to describe the Honda Jazz is CUTE. Despite being an MPV it's not too tall (front seats are high because the petrol tank sits underneath them) and it has a gorgeous snub nose.
It comes in a variety of colours, mostly metallic. Mine is 'clover green', a very dark metallic green. It's ...

...three cars, the five door Honda Jazz caught my attention by jumping up and down excitedly on the forecourt whenever I drove by. I had to have it because it made me feel so happy. I even like the brand name. It's high safety spec, (special mention given to Honda's award for pedestrian safety) and solid security features galvanised me into the decision.
This is a little car, tiny in fact, on the outside. I'm almost five feet tall and I can reach across ... ...I believe him? The Honda engine is so reliable it's almost boring.
But let me tell you my favourite thing about Hannah Honda. She has Magic Seats! They are really called that. The rear seats can fold up and lock so that loads can sit on the rear floorpan. You can fold a single seat up, say for a big plant, or the double seat up for a small chest of drawers, or all three to get in Ruth's bike from Santa at Christmas! If needed, the seats can fold ...

Advantages: Practicality, economy, quality Disadvantages: Low gearing means high revs at 70mph
The Honda Jazz manages the nearly impossible task of giving both my wife and I what we wanted from a car. Unless you're looking for a pure motorway cruiser or something sporty, I'd recommend it wholeheartedly. This review was written in 2004 - see the last paragraph for a 2007 update.
It replaced my old Cavalier, and I wanted something that could still carry flat-pack furniture or lots of people in comfort. My wife wanted something small and easy ... ...bills, do check that your Honda dealer isn't doing a larger service than necessary for the mileage - I saved over £100 last service by checking this. We've had no breakdowns or faults, and one niggle: there's an occasional squeak from one rear suspension unit which developed after two years, and which the dealer hasn't yet managed to cure, although there is apparently no fault with any of the components. Overall MPGs have been impressive - typically ...

Advantages: Economical, fun to drive, good looking Disadvantages: Slow to accelerate, stiff steering
...drive! We took a Honda Jazz for a test drive and I immediately fell in love. This review is based on my SE Sport (1.4 litre engine, air conditioning, CD player, alloy wheels, sunroof).
The Honda Jazz (named Fit in Japan) is usually marketed as a supermini MPV - inside the car is surprisingly spacious, helped by the forward position of the fuel tank and compact suspension. These slight changes have eliminated the need for a 'transmission tunnel' ... ...adjust the column's height. Honda have also fitted a fairly decent stereo system, although on bumpy rides my CDs do tend to skip. In addition to the ample legroom, there are plenty of nooks and crannies to store your bits and bobs. I've only ever seen this feature in the Jazz but there is no ashtray built into the dashboard - instead there is a little plastic cup thing with a lid, but if you are a non-smoker (like me) you can simply take it out of ...

Advantages: Very very clever package Disadvantages: almost none
...caught my eye was, the Honda Jazz. The Polo does it on economy and build quality, the Mini One on “cute” and the Honda ‘cos I think it’s dead clever. Anyway I took my lovely lady to view all three one Sunday afternoon in May. The Polo didn’t even get a test drive. She sat in it and immediately pronounced it “pokey” and drab. So that was that. Germany nil. OK, what about the Longbridge legend then? Nope, no ... ...desperate hope that the little Honda could impress where the Europeans had both scored “null points”.
It was love at first site. The Jazz charmed her with its snub nosed good looks and clever use of light and space, not to mention its endless list of gizmos and the almost fifty miles to the gallon that it promised. After much deliberation she decided on a red SE, the middle of the range model.

Advantages: Great city car, lots of room, storage space, good Dsi engine, good resale value Disadvantages: Maybe a pricey for some especially the 1.4 not much wrong with this car
Thanks to the Jazz, Honda has proven itself more than capable of taking on Europe's best super-minis. Although only having one model in the range has limited buyer's choice. So as part of its recent mid-life revamp, the Jazz is given a new 1.2 litre engine to broaden its appeal. At £8,725, it undercuts the cheapest 1.4 in the range by £1,900. The 1.2 produces just 5bhp less than its bigger brother and feels almost as quick. You have to work it hard ... ...made the ride overly harsh. Honda carried out some revisions and the result was a big improvement. So there are no suspension changes to this refreshed model, which is a good thing. The set-up is still firm which means decent body control and a comfortable ride. All models offer impressive cabin space and a large boot. Split/fold rear seats are standard and, as on the old model, fold flat to create a longer load space, or their cushions tip backwards ...

...found that car in the Honda Jazz.
Initial impressions are that it looks a lot like a Civic, apart from the slightly squat front with cute bug-eyes, and the aerial at the front of the roof and not the rear. However elsewhere things are very different and the Jazz is aimed at flexibility and not the "boy racer" crowd that the Civic sometimes attracts.
The inside is hugely spacious - easily enough space for 5 adults in comfort. The driving position ... ...Note that the basic model doesn't feature a height adjustable driver's seat so if you are shorter than a hobbit you might have a problem!
The boot is enormous too - and the split 20/40 rear seats fold down giving you a huge expanse of flat boot storage! It doesn't end there either - the "magic seats" can also fold the bit that you sit on up too, giving you a boot and a large high storage space where a passenger(s) would normall sit - great for squeezing ...

...on petrol. I had had Honda Civics in the past, but the five-door versions had just grown too big, and when I saw the Jazz and had a test-drive, I was sold! This car has everything: It is automatic, has a sun-roof , a good radio and CD player, and above all it is so cleverly designed that some friends have called it a Tardis, as it is small outside but really roomy inside - I have recently had in it two adult passengers, one child on a booster seat, ... ...a two-week holiday (including a baby buggy) - all this without putting the back seats down!
The petrol consumption is also very good, although not altogether what I have seen quoted. I get about 35-37miles to the gallon in town, but about 50 on a long motorway journey. Perhaps the lower figure for town driving is because it is automatic. I am still playing around with the "manual" option - I am not quite sure what benefit that gives, but it just ...

Furthermore Honda has done it's best to make the car as roomy as possible. THe ceiling has been hired and the wheels pushed out to the sides so that despite it being a small car the space is used to the maximum. You can also fold down the back seats giving you all the more room if you want to move stuff etc.

I was really impressed with this car and managed to pass my driving test in it first time. It's a really individual car that will get you noticed. Advantages: Great economy and excellent interior space Disadvantages: Plain exterior design
The Honda Jazz is a very fun car, its small and easy to park and the interior design has been well thought out, the space is utilised very well, its almost a small wagon with the seats all folding away and creating a large area to carry things around town, I have noticed a few cases of the CVT transmission developing shuddering when taking off and slight oil leaks from the sump in some cases. Im very impressed with this car, and with the new model ... ...an all round great town car with many uses, and excellent fuel economy, and they are a reasonably priced vehicle.
