An interactive book for the DS

Advantages: Great story, great characters with a lot of depth
Disadvantages: Takes a while to get in to

...Hyde?s job takes him to Hotel Dusk where his task is to collect a couple of items left behind by a client, but it is soon evident that there is a lot more to this than meets the eye?.. Strange things are happening at Hotel Dusk. A whole host of weird people have taken a room a few days before New Years Eve 1979. Whilst they claim not to know each other they all have something in common. ****Controls & gameplay**** This game fully utilises the ...
...Hyde around the hotel and complete actions with the stylus and the directional pad (for right handed players) or the A, B, X and Y buttons (for left handed players) are used to scroll through the cut scenes. The DS is held sideways at all times. Moving Hyde is simply a matter of dragging the stylus around the touch screen where you want him to go. When you come across an item to examine or a person to interact with it is simply a case of tapping ...

Revolutionary for DS

Advantages: Stylish, Good Storyline
Disadvantages: Hard to get into, need patience

...Overview: To best describe Hotel Dusk you could say it is an interactive novel in which you guide the main character Kyle Hyde through a storyline that is strife with mystery and betrayal. Ingeniously, whilst playing you have to hold your DS vertically, like a book. The two screens are then cleverly split so that the left hand screen shows a first person view, while the touch screen shows a plan view of the are through which you control Hyde's movements ...
...a sleek introduction, arriving at Hotel Dusk. To start with it is a little confusing what is going on, and you wonder why you are there. However through using all of Hyde's detective skills all becomes clear as the story progresses. In the introduction we find out about a guy named Brian Bradley (who goes by Bradley in game). This is one of Hyde's main objectives in this mystery: to try and find Bradley. Bradley is Kyle's former partner from the ...

...ago I have since purchased Hotel Dusk: Room 215 and have been totally hooked on the game. That is until today when I finally finished the game. Hotel Dusk: Room 215 is a fantastic detective style game that focuses around ex-police officer turned salesman/private detective Kyle Hyde and his one night stay in Hotel Dusk on the 28th December 1979. Three Years previously Kyle was a member of the LAPD and after receiving a phone call that his partner ...

Check in to hotel dusk!

Advantages: Very well written dialogue and story. Beautiful graphics
Disadvantages: Can plod on a bit, little replay value.

Welcome to Hotel Dusk! You play through this film noir-esq mystery/puzzle game as former police detective now dodgy salesman Kyle Hyde. During your overnight stay in room 215 you'll use all the DS functions (Touch Screen, microphone, even closing the DS at one point) to interact with other guests, explore the hotel and solve the numerous puzzles you'll come across. The story centres around Hyde and his obsession with finding his former partner ...
...something to do with his hotel room apparently having the ability to grant wishes. He meets other guests, each with their own story for Hyde to delve into and eventually many of the guests stories interlink and help Hyde find out more about his missing partner. Old style gaming without violence - Hotel Dusk for DS

Advantages: A deep and atmospheric game
Disadvantages: Possibly a bit wordy and linear in gameplay

Hotel Dusk : Room 215 is a detective and puzzle game for the Nintendo DS. It reminds me of games I used to play on the Amiga which were essentially point and click adventure games, where the game play and storyline was relatively set but gave the player lots of different options to explore the world built up by the programmers. The game appealed to me, as I'm really not that good at games which involve fighting other characters and jumping from platform ...
...them and progress takes a long time. The plot is important to the game, and you take the role of the main character, Kyle Hyde, and you have to track down your missing friend by exploring the hotel. The game is set in 1979, in Los Angeles. In terms of game play, you will have to like reading to enjoy playing this game. There is a lot of it, and it would be fair to say that the product is more of an interactive book than a game in the way that many ...

Upon arriving at the hotel you are immediately thrown into the mystery, Kyle's name was used by someone that stayed at the hotel previously. These puzzles are cleverly made part of the game in true detective style, they are not standalone mini game puzzles. Whilst these start off somewhat easy they do get harder. Advantages: excellent plot, great graphics
Disadvantages: linear, possibly repetitive sound (whether it annoys you or not)

...chat with people in the hotel and the story unfolds. It is that story that drives this game to greatness. It felt like a novel or comic with a strong plot and while it delivers it much like a novel it is still great. I cannot recommend this to someone who is not willing to read lots. You will walk about, maybe do a puzzle but have many conversations on the way. The characters are colourful and for one of the few times your character you control has ...
...you get kicked out the hotel some how, and puzzles are easy. But lets not forget your playing for the story essentially and not for action etc. I have little flaw with this game other than I have a short attention span and reading could be dull. However you can save at anytime in game. That makes it pickup and play for a train journey etc so once again it fits perfectly. The development team on this have learnt from previous adventure games and ...

Hotel Dusk - A murder mystery

Advantages: Addictive gameplay with an interesting story and plenty of puzzles
Disadvantages: Needs better guidance

I would recommend Hotel Dusk to anyone who enjoys puzzle-based role playing games but not if you are impatient. You play the part of Kyle Hyde, an ex-cop staying at a strange hotel, trying to solve a mystery from his past and work out what is going on at the hotel. You hold the DS like a book and use the stylus to move around, investigate objects and talk to other characters. The game is divided into chapters of one hour (game time) and you have ...
...well, while moving around the hotel you see a map on one screen and a first person view on the other. You tap on people or objects to interact with them. When interacting with other characters, your character is shown on the left screen and the other character on the right screen. The graphics are slick and give a real feeling of an old movie or a thriller novel. The plot is complex and unravels as you play, you start knowing very little and discover ...

A unique, mysterious game

Advantages: many mysteries and plot twists, neat animation, good music, makes great use of the DS hardware
Disadvantages: Text speed is a little slow, not a huge soundtrack

...Crown. You stay at a hotel called Hotel Dusk on a buisness trip and many mysterious events take place with many suprises and plot twists. The game is very unique. It has characters drawn in sketch form, similar to the sketch animation in the music video Take On Me by Aha and It also makes great use of the DS hardware. You hold the DS sideways, like a book and control all actions using the touch screen, although I do wish that the text speed was faster. ...

Steeped in atmosphere!

Advantages: Interesting plot, memorable characters
Disadvantages: Perhaps a bit short

...was first inspired to buy Hotel Dusk when I saw a friend playing it on their DS. I was immediately attracted by the creepy music, the vertical angle of the screens and the unique visual style. What's it about? Hotel Dusk is in essence an adventure game. You play a character named Kyle Hyde, a former NYPD cop looking for his old friend Bradley. The whole adventure takes place within the walls of Hotel Dusk. This may seem boring - I found however ...
...and twisted the storyline was incredibly intriguing! Why is it good? The storyline is gripping. The characters are believable and memorable, and I felt some sort of emotional connection to pretty much all of them by the end! The puzzles are a good difficulty - they can be tricky - however I did not find the need to look at a walkthrough once whilst playing the game. The music and visuals are steeped in atmosphere. I would recommend 'Hotel Dusk' ...

Hotel Dusk - Room 215

Advantages: Complete control over the game, fun, good storyline
Disadvantages: Some of the puzzles are a bit easy

I took my time getting this game because I had read a lot of reviews and thought it would be very boring, as everyone was saying there's so much reading to do. Well, I've played and enjoyed Phoenix Wright, and after that, nothing's a lot of reading! I really got into this game very quickly, and found the reading to be minimal. I really enjoyed the fact that you actually move the character around, and can examine anything, it's exactly what I was ...

I had also read that the game is impossible without referring to walkthroughs, but although I have gone round in circles a few times, unsure of what to do, I have managed to work it out before getting frustrated enough to turn to the internet for help. Before I played this game, I wanted a game where you control everything, that's interesting, has a good storyline and is fun to play, and that's exactly what ...
