Microsoft may wish to add to it's knowledge database that this modem can cause crashes when wireless signal reception is (at least) variable.
My current working modem is an 'ICON 225' connected to the 'Orange Broadband' network. I've had this extensively in operation for most of this week and not even a hint of crashing. Therefore, the crisis is over.
In closing, ... ...modems, but it's too limited and possibly US-orientated. I'm in the UK. Microsoft really needs to sort out this matter and help UK users have a clearly defined list of approved wireless modems to choose from - as well as a blacklist of dangerous ones (such as the HUAWEI E220N). ...

Quick review of Huawei E220
It's drivers have caused Blue screen of death (aka BSOD) on my HP laptop windows XP2, three times now within 2 days. The 3rd BSOD occurred even without the modem connected or the 3G broadband interface software running, so that narrows the problem down to the drivers installed now permanently corrupting the system whether you run 3g broadband or not.
I have just done a system restore to the point before these rogue drivers were installed.
Ill see if the blue screen of death still occurs over the next couple of days. ...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: Slow, Harms USB Port, Cheaply Made.
I used this USB modem for about 2 years. I was really upset to find out it never preformed as it said. It's very slow, no matter where you are. The USB connector is made very cheaply and does harm to your USB port. I am lucky i have 4 USB ports on my laptop or i would have had a high repair bill. From my point of view it's a total waist of time to purchase this product. The modem will disconnect you from the internet if move the laptop around because ... ...a USB modem, try and do the homework and look around, remember the cheaper the price you pay on the them the cheaper the quality, I suggest to let your network provider know before hand about these reviews, in that way if something had to go wrong, you have a finger to point.
