I stumbled across this article quite by accident while searching for milk thistle on ciao, and felt compelled to write an opinion on the subject.
When my daughter, now four, was born, I was intent on breastfeeding. It seemed to my mind the most logical option for me, after all, its natural, free, and midwives and health professionals insist that breast is best for baby - boosting the immune system by providing the right balance of vitamins, minerals, ... ...go according to plan- my daughter, upon her first breastfeeding attempt , developed what I thought was an adorable little snuffle snort .However, doctors disagreed, whisked her away for tests, and discovered pneumonia, so took the decision to keep her in the neonatal unit.
As I was still weak from an operation caused by complications during labour, the decision was taken between the midwives and myself, that rather than me being dragged from one ...

Advantages: Seek advice when needed. Disadvantages: Conflicting advice from professionals
Who knows best ? Breast feeding, these word sends shivers down my spine. Even now after all these years. Those words terrify me. From the moment my pregnancy was confirmed. I was asked , if I was going to breastfeed. OH MY GOD. I AM PREGNANT, is still going through my mind. What do you mean, am I going to breastfeed or bottle feed. ERRR, I don't know. Let me get my head around the fact that I am pregnant first and what that means to my way of life, ... ...the rest of my life.
Everyone seemed to have an opinion on my pregnancy, and what I should be doing at every stage of my pregnancy. Doctors, Midwifes, Gynecologists, family, friends, everyone. They all seemed to have an opinion on what would be best for me and my soon to be born baby. I sought advice, and bought all the baby books for each step of the pregnancy. I thought this was a good place to start.
Until you actually go through the experience ...

Advantages: Most natural way of feeding your baby. Disadvantages: Not for everyone
From my own personal experience especially when i had my first child. I felt under alot of pressure from my midwife and my partner to breast feed my baby.
It was something that i was never really comfortable with doing even though i was torn between how i felt and what others thought was best for my baby.
We all know that breast milk is physically better for babies because it is the milk nature intended for them. Breast milk gives your baby the ... ...from you that help to protect his health whilst he builds up his owm immune system.
However formula milk can be just as good. Modern baby milks are more or less extensively adapted to be as close as possible to breast milk. It also contains added vitamins and irons.
Whey based Formula is the most like breast milk with simular levels of protein and minerals.
I think no body has the right to put pressure on you or criticize you for what ever you ...

Advantages: free, enables you to bond well with baby, best nutrients etc Disadvantages: not always suitable to feed in public, noone else can feed unless expressed.
Even before we had concieved I knew that I wanted to breastfeed my son. I was breastfed as a child and so was my younger sister, we are both healthy adults and I feel we have benefitted from it in the long run. I was asked by many people when I was pregnant if I was going to breastfeed and each time I would say that I wanted to very much so I will start with that and see how me and my baby get on with it and take it from there. I got many comments ... ...ignored, but everyone is entitled to their opinion and I do try and keep that into consideration when feeding my son. I fortunatley had a straightforward birth and was able to get my son latched to breast within 20 minutes of delivery and he fed again and again in hospital. I was in a ward after giving birth with many women who had caeserians and were not able to easily or comfortably breast feed so I feel incredibly lucky to have had such an easy ...

Advantages: Good nutrition, bonding, natural Disadvantages: Can be extremely painful!
I've always believed that breast is best, so when I discovered that I was pregnant, there was no question in my mind as how I would feed my baby. It's the most natural thing in the world. I was of the belief that breast feeding should be allowed anywhere and that if anyone objects, then they have a problem - afterall that is why women have breasts - it's just our culture that views them in a different way.
When my baby was born, she latched on during ... ...I felt that it was a bit uncomfortable, but had been told to expect this to an extent.
I had been encouraged by health professionals whilst I was pregnant to breastfeed (as I said this was always my intention). However, I didn't find that the support I received was very good in hospital. Some of the staff took time out to help me with positioning and attachment, whereas others seemed more to tell me to get on with it. I really struggled with it ...

Advantages: Free!! Bonding time, easy. Disadvantages: occasional soreness
Myself and my husband decided that we would like to try breastfeeding with our first child... and we are both glad that we did.
Not only is breastfeeding inexpensive it is also a great way to bond with your child, there was nothing nicer than when I had to get up in the night to feed my daughter than having a cosy warm cuddle whilst feeding her rather than trudging to the kitchen to heat up a bottle and letting her wake up fully and scream the house ... ...your child everything that they need and you know that there are no additives! The only thing perhaps to remember is to avoid spicy foods (I had a particularly strong curry when my baby was quite small and she ended up with tummy ache and a smelly nappy for a few days!) I am sure that feeding my daughter has given her the best start in life, she is healthy and whenever she was unwell she was comforted by her feeds. The only disadvantage that can ...
