    Advantages Advantages Straightforward operation

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lacking in features once you've sampled a Topfield

Now here's a funny thing - I'm writing about something I didn't intend buying and didn't really want. Whooooops! It's equally infrequently that I'm forced to 'fess-up' and admit that despite extensive research, I've "bought the Betamax", the dodo in question this time being a Topfield 5810 Freeview PVR (hard disk recorder). Even with the best efforts of retailer Peter Tyson, I just could not get one of these to stand up for more than a month at a time, and after even the second factory-fresh replacement went faulty, I threw in the towel and asked for a credit note, with which I've bought the ... more

4 Stars Twenty-First Century TV Revolution Review with images 29/10/2009

Advantages Advantages Fantastic Features and Ease of Use

Disadvantages Disadvantages EPG slow to Load

Anyone who has used 'SkyPlus' will realise that its innovative system (which allows users to pause and rewind live TV) has revolutionised what consumers expect from a set top box, and has set a high standard for other hard drive recorder manufacturers. Freeview were soon to jump on the SkyPlus bandwagon with 'Freeview+' which grants similar handy pause and rewind privileges. However, many of the Freeview+ compatible boxes are a mixed bag in terms of their features and reliability, and until recently, they were no match for SkyPlus. That all changed however, with the release of the 'Humax PVR ... more

Advantages Advantages Large HDD, easy to use EPG

Disadvantages Disadvantages not easy to export files

-When I bought this product- I first decided that I was going to replace my existing free view recorder after the one I owned had given me a lot of trouble by missing series recordings and sometimes just not recording at all. I looked at the options available and after considering different types of recorders I didn't want to risk buying a recorder that might fail after six months or so, I had read excellent reviews on various Humax recorders available but at the time were out of my budget by about £40, in the end I decided a Humax Free view recorder would be the best option even though they ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to set up and use, picture quality, storage space

Disadvantages Disadvantages None that I can think of other than being expensive

I was looking for a new PVR late last year and the general concensus form the press was that this was the best unit on the market. The only downside reported in those reviews was that the programme guide took a long time to load up. In my experience this was not a problem - although the programme guide loads up from scratch every time you turn the unit on - if you usually leave the unit on standby this is never really a problem. The picture quality is top notch and the unit was really wasy to set up. As is always the case with digital TV recorders it took a bit of fiddling to get the picture ... more

Advantages Advantages A series link. HDMI connection

Disadvantages Disadvantages 8 day programme, not long enough

The Humax 9300T overall is very good. It has a HDMI connection a big memory. It is easy to use and has a series link which is invaluable. You can record 2 programmes at the same time. It is usually pretty reliable and the picture quality i excellent. It does however have a few negative points. Only a 8 day timer which is restrictive especially if series missed one week. The picture on certain freeview channels is not full screen and it is very difficult to rectify as the instructions are not the best in the world. I found the Humax helpline quiet unhelpful when I e Mailed them. The programme ... more

    Advantages Advantages Picture, sound, recption

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Remote control

I had a Thomson 160GB PVR and it was awfull, it kept crashing, wouldn't come out standby, Picture kept breaking up and it was noisey. I put up with this for 2 years and i'd had enough, so i bought a Humax 9300T PVR 320GB. What a fantastic box, the picture doesn't break up and is much sharper, it's whisper quiet when on and off, it's got a 320GB hard drive so you can record the programs you like to watch, you can also do a series link so you can record a whole series of a program, it has accurate recording so if a prgoram starts learly or runs late it will automatically adjust to record the ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to use, large storage

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I bought the Humax PVR 9300T, several months ago, and absolutely love it. The 8 day program guild is easy to use, if you want to record something you simply press 'ok' on the handset when you are in the guide. If you want to record something NOW, just press the record button on the remote. You can even record part of a program you are playing back, if you just want to save that special moment from the latest reality show. The box automatically updates it's software over the air and installs it next time you go into the menu system. It does make a bit of fan noise for 30 seconds when you first ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy To Set Up and Only Cost Me £119.97 @ Tesco

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I bought this machine last night after looking at all the others that were available, I also made it a point to read the many reviews that have been posted on line regarding this superb product. Not That I am a cheapskate but now that cash is better in my pocket I always tend to search for the best prices, and it was by accident that I came across the bargain price for this machine at Tesco, No I was not seeing double nor had my glasses steamed up and after asking a shop assistant to check the price he confirmed that it was, wait for it an amazing £119.97, whaol thats a great saving ... more
