Advantages: Spacious and good looking exterior. Also good handling. Disadvantages: Interior is a bit shoddy!!!
Right, with uni, a job and a child, it was time to get my own car. There was just no way that sharing my mum’s ford KA was feasible anymore. So, in June 2004 I dragged my long suffering dad along to help me buy my first car. It had been a long time coming. I was 17 when I passed my test and being nearly 20 I thought it about time. I figured out that I had a “spare” £100 per month to throw around, it would just have been spent on junk anyway and with ... ...was around £4000. Searching.
Before dragging my poor old daddy around to actually buy a car, I dragged poor old Drewboy around many a car garage in the rain hail and snow. I know nothing about car’s and would probably be taken for a fool in the car garage!! The Hyundi Accent was always in the back of my mind as my mum had one when I was about 14 and she had loved it. There were certain criteria that my car had to meet. It had to be big enough for ...

...Reliability....
The Hyundai Accent is voted the most relaible car which can be bought in the UK new according to Which Car? mag.I need a car that is very reliable which this car is but i also need a car that is capable of doing a lot of miles which i am afraid the interior will not be able to cope with.
Recommedations...
I woul stongly recommend this car to a family who also have a bigger car as the Accent will be a tight crush to get 4 people ... ...like a brick.
I may have seconds thoughts about the Hyundai Accent as it is the best car i have come across yet.I may be able to increase my budget on a new car so the top of the range Accent may well be in the picture. ...

...Then we visited the Hyundai garage! Wandering around I actually walked right past the red Hyundai Accent at the back of the forecourt, I was looking through ‘small car’ blinkers and immediately dismissed the Accent as too big. My husband stopped though, and called me back for a look. “This has got power steering,” he said, and as I turned around for a second look I have to admit that I was very taken with the appearance of the Accent. The colour ... ...was drawn back to the Hyundai Accent, and returned on Sunday to take it out for a test drive. It had been two months since I’d passed my test, and during those two months I’d only driven my husbands car twice! Still, I was very surprised when I jumped into the drivers seat of the Accent at just how easy it was to drive, even for a comparative novice like me! The saleswoman took me through the controls, and I was very pleased to notice the adjustable ...

Opinion based on Accent 1.3e (a 1.3i with an "e"), S reg.
The Accent itself is definitely budget sector - although the fit and finish externally often belies that fact.
What is wrong with them ?
The demisting is terrible (and I mean *terrible* to the point of dangerous). In wet weather, when you get into the car damp, you had better keep a chamois leather handy, because the heater / fan cannot cope, and all internal windows will mist to the point ... ...help the airflow to demist because the car is fiendishly designed to pour water all over the occupants with as little as 1/4" opening.
The suspension reminds me of a cart with solid wheels - try going over any speed bumps, and you will soon discover the suspension bottoms out even at 2-3mph. If you really want one of these cars, test drive it over as many bumps as possible ! The rear end also has a tendency to bounce a LOT after coming off a speed ...

The Hyundai plant is only 90 kms away from Istanbul where I live. There, the H1 Starex is built for export to the whole world also several Accent models ranging from the 1.3, 1.5i, 1.5CRDI models. In fact the facelift which made the car look like a shrinked Subaru Impreza was actually done here (far as I know)
I tested the 1.5i and 1.5CRDI models for myself. Here goes :
1- The 1.5i Sedan :

*** Body and Looks : The car looks ... ...remind you of typical Korean and Malaysian cars. (ya know those colorful stripes, "blue turn indicators" et al.) Only, the chrome grille is too jazzy and even ugly for this class of a car. The body is rigid enough but tends to flex under load transfer. So you better always remind yourself of the laws of physics while cornering.
*** Interior :
The interior is well laid out. However, the tacky and hard plastics spoil your view. The car I tested was ...

...me the loan of a Hyundai Accent, it was a 1.3 Lsi Automatic, rather fetching in it's metallic green, and not a bit of rust on it despite 9 years and 99000 miles. I used the car for 4 hours then decided to buy it. I've owned Protons before, and like the Hyundai, they are a cousin of the Mitsubishi Lancer, the Protons had all been stunningly reliable and I was expecting more of the same from the Accent.
So far, I haven't been disappointed, an early ... ...A lot of people criticise Hyundai for a poor interior finish, and yes, it's not up to modern standards, but taken in the context of a budget car, there is nothing wrong with it, there's enough room for 4 large people, and a fifth smaller one squeezed in between, and although there's no sunroof, electric windows or aircon, if it had have been offered on an a 1980's british car, it would have been described as luxurious.
I've had none of the misting ...

Advantages: Good price, well equipped Disadvantages: None really
Hyundai Accent was bought in preference to the more fashionable Suzuki Ignis, both were similarly priced, but the accent wins on equipment and only really loses on being less than eyecatching.
On test driving the Accent seemed more solid and "carlike" than the gimmicky Ignis.
The Accent is a solid straightforward well-equipped car without any compromise to current fashion trends.
Electric windows, power steering and airbags are the essentials ... ...are expensive toys which are thankfully absent.
In todays high car-crime world the absence of a CD player should deter thieves, but the non-electric aerial is a minor pain.
In terms of street credibility, do not expect boy racers to challenge you at the lights, but you may be approached by more experienced citizens to ask for your opinions.
Overall the Accent is an unobtrusive good quality steady drive and for less than £7000 puts other manufacturers' ...

I've driven one of these since 2001 and they are great cars. Not broken down on me once. One thing I would say is that I've recently started driving mine on long journeys and it gets very uncomfortable, so don't buy one if you're doing a lot of driving. It would be really nice to have power steering but it doesn't come with the older accents. Having said that the steering is actually easier than on other small cars so don't be put off by it. With the stereo the panelling in the car is so complicated that it would take at least half an hour to rip it off to get to the stereo, not like in other cars where you can just lift ...

Well I have to say that this is the second Accent I have bought from Hyundai. The new accent (1999 onwards) is quite different to the original car I purchased.
Firstly, a totally different shape, I prefer it, my wife doesn,t! Also more gadgets on the new car, and a new choice of colours- not a bad idea when you consider some of the old colours!
I think the biggest improvement is that the car drives and handles so much better. The "old" accent was ... ...standard on new models and wider wheels/ tyres the "new" accent is beautiful to drive.
It handles much better at speed (70 on the motorway is so easy and comfortable) and seems to get blown around a lot less. The car is also slightly heavier than the old one. Driving is pleasurable. I would recommend anyone thinking about buying an Accent to take a test drive, after all there is nothing to lose and you will probably be impressed with it! I am. ...

I own an Accent from 1998 and have only 92.000 klms. I always drive "gently". In the long term, I EXPERIENCED ALL THESE PROBLEMS:
a) it has poor construction quality, b) it appears often mechanical and electrical malfunctions, c) the fuel consumption usually is bigger than this described by its book, d) it has expensive genuine parts so a very EXPENSIVE SERVICE, e) it burns lots of oils inside its engine (so, I have to carry always Oil with me!!!). ...

I purchased my Hyundai Accent just over two years ago. At that time the car was extremely good value for money, being significantly larger than the majority of cars in its price range and coming with 3 years free insurance (offer no longer valid though).

I have owned an Accent for two and a half years now from new. I chose this model mainly for the price and looks. I have had absolutely no problems with the car, it has never let me down.

Advantages: Price, looks and grunt Disadvantages: Gearbox
I own an M reg accent which I have been very happy with. The 1.3 engine is remarkably responsive and the car has more 'grunt' than any car I have driven with a similiar size engine and handles like it is glued to the road.
The price was the main reason I bought the car being £2000 or more cheaper than its main rivals at the time. The new style accents appear to have kept the cars strong points (I test drove one a little while back) but the gearbox, ... ...main fault you get used to the rather poor gearbox, more spoon through custard than knife through butter. I have Hyundai Accent 3.1 which is now three years old. Other than a minor problem when it was first delivered - the screenwash reservoir emptied itself onto my drive - we have not had a single problem with this car. It goes well and it looks much nicer than any other car in its class.
I would say that the fuel economy isn't brilliant. Also, it tends to be slow to de-mist on cold mornings. It could do with a better seat. But these are minor problems. ...
