Advantages Advantages It looks lovely, surprisingly light and strong, an overall excellent unit!

Disadvantages Disadvantages None that I can think of....

Last month was the month I was going to change, not myself but the very drab bedroom that needed some kind of a makeover therapy. A trip to Ikea was on the cards and off we went. At first I struggled to find a suitable bookcase or storage solution until last minute at the checkout where I spotted this 'Expedit series book / storage type of thing', it looked nice with the new bright red colouring and it seemed reasonably priced at £79.99. After having a bash around with the one on display it seemed solid enough and off I went with it - thanks goodness the large box fitted inside our little car ... more

Advantages Advantages Cavernous, easy to build (mostly). Neat styling and apparently well made

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bloody heavy & unlikely to survive taking apart (after all who keeps the instructions?)

There's an "old" German proverb invented late in the last century, which when translated goes "Idiots'll Buy Just About Anything", the original being something like"Idioten kaufen eben alles"*, which by some strange perchance happens to spell IKEA when abbreviated! *Pardon my A-Level German from 1968 Incidentally, we're the only people in Europe to pronounce it "Eye-Key-A", in that American "Eye-Rack and Eye-Ran" kind of way. The rest conform to calling it, somewhat more correctly, Ee-kay-ah. Anyway, that's got all my prejudices and mis-conceptions out of the way - for now at least! Watch them ... more

I have quite a reasonable sized bedroom but I have always longed for a walk in wardrobe that I never got. Ikea had on their website about 5 months a go, storage ideas and ways to create a walk in wardrobe without building any walls. Instantly I got searching and measuring to find items which I could use. In the end I brought this and one other section the same size with shelving etc (I cannot remember the name but it fits to the wall and has shelves, drawers and hanging space). Because the other section was more for hanging clothes, I have used this mainly for folded items like t-shirts and ... more

Storage is a big issue in our house, mainly due to the fact that we don’t have enough of it. I suppose no-one ever has enough, but there comes a point when I get very tired of seeing toys all over the lounge floor, bursting through boxes and spilling onto clear space. I have been looking around for a suitable solution for quite a while, and whilst looking on the IKEA website last week I realised I could make use of the expedit range of shelving IKEA sell in more ways than one. The shelving comes in a few different sizes and colours. You can buy a set of shelves that are square in shape at ... more

Having just moved house, I found myself in the lucky position, of having two living rooms. So, for the first time in my life, I was going to have a kids playroom, leaving the other living room as a nice 'adult only' space. Now, if you have moved house recently, you will know how much stuff you find that you had previously forgotten about. In my case, I realised that I had a substantial collection of books, and now I had nowhere to put them. My wife had been wanting me to go to IKEA for ages, so I decided to go and get a bookcase the next day. Ikea have only been in Northern Ireland a short ... more

I have two of the white Ikea Expedit '4 hole' cube shelving units in our bathroom. I use them to store and display towels, and some of the nicer toiletries and bits and bobs in the bathroom. I chose the Expedit shelving units in white as I already have an Ikea Malm chest of drawers in white in the bathroom and so I wanted the items to match. Also I just wanted a clean, simple and bright look in the bathroom, hence the white colour. The Expedit shelving unit range comes in a wide range of colours and sizes. The colours available are; white, birch effect, black brown, high gloss white, high ... more

After moving into my own house last year after renting around London for the last 10, I found myself in a 3 bed house and not much more than clothes, a stereo and a cactus. Being deperatley in need of some furniture and on a tight budget after blowing far too much money on the essential massive TV, a trip to IKEA was inevitable. After wandering around and selecting a range of wardrobes, bookshelves and a range of fairly useless gadgets I spotted the Expedit bookcases at a reasonable value and decided they would make perfect additions to my house. They come in a range of sizes so I selected the ... more
