Wham, Bam, And Here's Your Kitchen, Ma'am!

Advantages: Fast ordering, delivery and installation, quality products that look great and cost less
Disadvantages: Not everything may be in stock when you go to buy it

...I'm glad that I had IKEA to help me with this. So I thought you might want to share my experiences with IKEA Kitchen Systems. First of all, you'll find IKEA Kitchen Systems either at your IKEA store or in their catalogue or via the IKEA web page (www.ikea.co.uk and choose the closest branch to your home). What I first did was to go through their catalogue and pick out a style that I liked (Kalsebo in beech), checked to see what units were available ...
...the kitchen planners at my IKEA shop. Designing your Kitchen: What I found at my local shop was that the designers had much the same type of computer tool that you can download from the internet, but that theirs was much more powerful since it could take some very unusual kitchen shapes which I couldn't get to work with the program I downloaded. The whole work on the designing of the kitchen took a bit over an hour to do - including fiddling around ...

Great price for a great kitchen

Advantages: Great price, solid, easy to install cabinets, real wood doors
Disadvantages: Only that I had to carry it in my car to save the transport...

...always sort of left aside IKEA in terms of furniture, but this was until now ! So, I downloaded their Kitchen Planner, FREE from their website and started designing the kitchen (is the best Kitchen Planner on the Internet and IS FREE !). As everyone knows, the size of the kitchen and the size of the cabinets are not going together very well, you always end up having 5cm less or extra, etc. So, after days spent in front of the laptop and four different ...
...over. So, I decided IKEA is for us. I went to IKEA in Croydon, spent a day in the store (but that's another story, as I looked for other stuff !) and really, really liked the quality of the kitchens, especially of the one that we thought is OK for us, the Tidaholm one. So, to cut it short, the Tidaholm kitchen looked absolutely fine. We really liked the fully extended drawers, the carousels in the corner cabinets (which, by the way, cost only 25£, ...

IKEA Kalsebo kitchen

Advantages: Good quality, easy assembly, great price!
Disadvantages: Having to visit the warehouse ...

Having purchased and fitted an IKEA kitchen in 1993, and being very happy with it for the next 7 years (until we moved house!), I didn't really bother looking anywhere else for my most recent kitchen. I was delighted to find that, although the narrowest (30cm wide) units have now been discontinued, the range has otherwise been improved and offers excellent value and quality. IKEA offers a very good range of basic units, all of which are customisable ...
...of the finished result. (The IKEA website also offers some useful advice on the whole process of planning and fitting your kitchen). I would also recommend using the 'item list' option on the planning software, as you can print off a list of units you want and take it with you when you visit the store. This saves any misunderstanding by the sales staff. It also tells you the total cost of your chosen units. The part I hate about IKEA shopping is ...

The quality best low-cost kitchen available

Advantages: Good quality, service, cost and installers
Disadvantages: Not installed as soon as promised

I bought my Ikea kitchen with Adel cupboard fronts a year ago and was very impressed. The kitchen cost about £2,500 and installation cost about £3,000 (including the electrics, plumbing, installing the floor etc.), but these figures would vary massively depending on the size of the kitchen and the amount of work you want done. ONLINE KITCHEN PLANNER I downloaded the online kitchen planner which is the best free design tool that I have found on the ...
...own computer, or on the Ikea server. The latter is useful because when you go into the store to order your kitchen, they have computers that you can use to open the design you did at home, which is really clever. The Ikea staff (who are very well trained and knowledgeable) then look at your design and order everything you need, including all the extras you may not have thought of such as cover panels to go on the end of the units. INSTALLATION SERVICE ...

Abstract Red Gloss Kitchen

Advantages: Good Unit Sizes
Disadvantages: Ikea don't pay staff overtime

...the way I looked at IKEA 's kitchens, the corner units were exactly 900mm, so no silly fillers and they also did a small larder unit (most only did a 600mm Ikea did a 400) and a small 400mm drawer unit with 5 drawers (most only did 3 drawers one of which was a huge really deep thing at 500-600mm wide). The only thing that put me off was the fact that I had to find someone to fit it rather than it being including in the package. Then one day, I'm ...
...helpful and knowledgeable BUT as IKEA doesn't pay overtime his shift finished and we ran out of time! I decided to go away with what we'd managed to get done and make sure we had it all correct. When I went back he wasn't free, so someone else helped me. Luckily all the stuff Zach put into the system was still there, unfortunately the system crashed while we were making a couple of minor changes and so she lost the order and had to put it all in ...

Using Ikea Kitchen Fitters

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Everything is wrong with them

...No, the problem was that Ikea sub-contract it out to another company- in my case Core and Ore. Who then sub-contract it out to another person (who wanted to sub it out to someone else). Core and Ore do not actually do the fitting- they just push paper about. Then they charge an extorionate amount of money for the most simple of jobs. In my case the fitter they hired hated Core and Ore so much that he refused to do any work for them. So I was stranded ...
...advice, do not go through Ikea and use their fitters at any cost- especially Core and Ore. The guys they use can be found in the phone book and will do just as good a job for half the price that Ikea charge. Yes half the price (their own fitters told me themselves)! Go through the phone book and find a decent fitter with the necessary accreditation (Master Craftsman Guild, etc) This a short summary of what happened. Believe me there was a whole ...

Nightmare

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Poor quality furniture, poor quality fitter

Don't go near Ikea for a kitchen unless you want something cheap and cheerful that only needs to last a couple of years. My experience has been dreadful. Half of the kitchen arrived damaged. Some of the replacements also then arrived damaged. Then the line was stopped in England. A two month wait for replacements from Sweden turned into 5 months. Then the wrong parts had been ordered. Then I had to settle for a different kitchen. The Installers (Parkhall) ...
...18 months. It took Ikea to send out tqo more installation companies before all of the other numerous faults were rectified. Ikea customer service is non-existant. I have been treated like a nuisance, I have not received any compensation. I paid for a kitchen 18 months before I actually got one. All letters of complaint are ignored. It took a million telephone calls to actually get any problems rectified. Neither Ikea Directors nor PR Department give ...

Advantages: easy to put together, no drillin etc needed, strong
Disadvantages: delivery and service given by ikea

...and something that looked modern. Ikea came up with the best i could find i used there internet site which is by far the best kitchen planner available and works everytime (unlike b&q) price wise it worked out along the same price range as b&q and mfi wickes (once you take into consideration all the DEALs the other places offer) I could sit in my own home and plan my kitchen exactly the way I wanted view it in 3D and look at the overall price list. ...

Ikea Kitchens, easy for the DIY people

Advantages: good quality, easy to understand how to put it together, easy to install, excellent organization
Disadvantages: came in 96 boxes, can be labour intensive

We bought a full ikea kitchen about 1.5 years ago. Now the first thing that I can say is they are so affordable. When looking to redo our entire kitchen, we spent only about 2500$. Most people spend a lot more than this. Ikea delivered the kitchen in 96 boxes! Yup, their kitchens come the same way as all of their other products. This aspect was a little bit of a pain, because it is labour intensive, but it works if you have time and not money. I ...
...was challenging at first, but once you have done two or three and you know how they work, they are very easy to snap together quickly, but make sure you have space! You need space for the boxes and space to build the cupboards, and more space to put all of the cupboards you have already built so they are not in your way. When it came time to put the kitchen together, the instructional DVD that came with everything was very easy to understand, it ...

Still no delivery

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Poor customer service, poor comunication within the companyh and to the customer.

...I ordered my kitchen from Ikea I was told it would take 2 weeks to be delivered. The 2 weeks soon turned into 8 weeks. Once I had a delivery date booked I started to dismantle my old kitchen the week before the delivery was due. 5 days before the delivery date I got a phone call from Ikea to inform me that my delivery had been cancelled. The reason for this was because one item had been delayed (the microwave). Eventually they agreed to separated ...

...over the last13 months and I've been offered measly £130 compensation. That being the cost of re-plumbing the dishwasher. The cost of all this was over £3000, £2000 for the fitting or rather the bodge up! I would recommend anyone think very seriously about using Ikea to fit their kitchens. ...

Don't Do It!!

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Extremely poor service

...the reviews before purchasing an ikea kitchen. Everybody seemed so full of priase so we went ahead. Actually ordering the kitchen was incredibly difficult and involved three visits to the store each lasting at least two hours as they were so short staffed and also due to the appaulingly bad computer package they used which managed to delete our plans twice! We were told our kitchen was in stock but the custom worktops would take 6-8 weeks to be made. ...
...we waited as instructed for Ikea to contact us. The fitters, who are not Ikea, came and provided us with the quote etc for work for which we paid a deposit, but nothing from Ikea. After an incredible 6 weeks I telephoned the Kitchen Installation helpline who told me that my kitchen order did not exist! Two weeks of arguing followed before Ikea decided to re-instate our order, however my worktops were now going to take another 6-8 weeks. My kitchen ...

Quick review of Ikea Kitchen Systems

I bought an Ikea Kitchen in May and had the recommended fitting company, Core and Ore to fit it. That was 6 months ago and we are still waiting for the work to be completed. Buy the units from Ikea, they are good quality but going by my own bad experiance, steer clear of Core and Ore and their sub-contractors and get your local kitchen fitter in, he will do a better job and will be a lot cheaper. ...

Be aware of lack of recesses at rear of base units

Advantages: Price
Disadvantages: Flush back

...an Adel yellow-white kitchen from Ikea for self assembly and fitting in our tiny kitchen. Couple of problems with damaged goods in 2 packs (obviously opened and used by someone else then re-packed!!) but they exchanged with no problem although this involved 3 hours out of my day on 2 successive days. Still in process of assembling, but main drawback encountered has been that didn't realise that these base units have no recess at back to allow for ...
...a shock to realise the Ikea ones don't, which is a pain if you have pipes running in along walls which cannot easily be re-routed. Our solution will be to have the units mounted on battens which give us an extra 50mm clearance for the pipework, but this means that we won't be able to use a standard 600mm wide worktop. ...
