Advantages Advantages Monthly interest, easy to transfer

Disadvantages Disadvantages Transfers take too long to clear, disappointing rates of interest for existing customers

I have held accounts at ING for several years now, after being recommended by an independent financial advisor. At the time the rates were quite high (around 6%) and it made sense to take advantage of them. Unfortunately now the credit crunch has hit hard, interest rates are ridiculously low and I've withdrawn all my funds from ING as the savings rates on offer right now are not good enough. ING direct is quite a good account if you can get the new customer bonus interest rate. 2.75% for instant access with no penalties is not a fantastic rate but it is one of the best on the market today. ***I've added on to this review, as it wasn't very detailed*** It's xxxING Good- Turn Pence into Pounds like Magic Personally, I'm a lazy saver - Although I'm not a great business woman, I do like my pounds to earn a bit when I'm not looking. I have to admit, ING takes care of several pence while you look after the pounds (or perhaps I've mixed up that metaphor…..) ING offers perhaps one of the most competitive interest rates around; at the time of writing this review originally it was 5%, at present it's 4.75%. The interest rate does fluctuate when the Bank of England adjusts its straps, but ... more

Advantages Advantages Great interest rate, easy to open an account, no hidden clauses

Disadvantages Disadvantages 3-5 days to transfer funds, makes you feel screwed by your current savings account!

If you’re young and are earning then let’s face it there’s not a great deal you can do with your money at the moment. I would say buy some property but it’s just way out of a regular young earners reach. The only alternative is to save your money until it’s time to take your next step in life. At the moment there are loads of banks and building societies trying to get your money. Loan’s are at low rate and savings accounts offer better than ever rates of interest. However most of them come with catches. Take Halifax’s offer of 6% interest on saving’s. In reality that’s only for the first year ... more

As I have become a little more frugal with my outgoing expenses such as insurance savings , changing power supplier etc. I had a few pounds to save. As I am a non-taxpayer I looked for the best interest rates available. I found that the well known building societies gave fair rates but wanted to tie up my money on a 30 or 90 day notice to make a withdrawal. They also only paid interest annually. I wanted to get at my cash when I wanted it After all it is mine. I searched the web and found several saving accounts but plumped for ING.Direct. They only do savings so you are never pestered with ... more

Ok so this particular bank only actually offers savings accounts but boy they do them well. Having had nightmares with Nationwide I decided that I needed to look elsewhere for my savings and mortgage account. A TV advert made me aware of this bank and the interest rates made me log on and find out more. ING Direct offer an amazing 4.3% AER to all customers regardless of amount you put in. For the likes of myself who don't have much to invest but want to save a small amount each month this is brill. You can open the account online or by phone and you only need to deposit a min of £1 to open the ... more

Advantages Advantages great rate of interest, so easy to use,

Last year me and the bloke were looking for a joint savings account for our holiday money that paid a good rate of interest. After surfing the net I discovered ING Direct. At todays date, 25 Feb 2005, they are paying 5% gross on £1and above. This is paid monthly on the last day of the month. There are only a couple of accounts that pay higher rates, and they usually have stipulations about paying in a certain amount or no withdrawals or something. The account can be managed online or over the telephone. You can post cheques to ING using a Freepost address, or collect the money from your bank ... more

Having scoured the internet for an account offering a half-decent interest rate I came across this marvelous little diamond-in-the rough – ING Direct (www.ingdirect.co.uk). Offering a rate of 4.3%, it is unrivalled as a no-frills savings account. It is operated either over the telephone or the internet, which means it has few overheads and can thus offer an amazing rate. The account works by being linked with your current account by direct debit. This direct debit enables ING Direct to move money between your account with them and your current account. They will only make a transaction on your ... more

Advantages Advantages Good initial interest rate. Easy to use. Only £1 to start.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lower interest rate after 12 months.

I opened my account with the ING around 5 or 6 years ago, so I am not someone that opened one last week and says they are amazing. In the time I have had the account, the interest rate has always been fairly high. Unfortunately of late, they interest rate is not all that good. If you think 6% is high, be warned that this interest rate is only for new customers. After 12 months, you get 4.75%, quite a significant difference. This annoys me so most of my money has been moved elsewhere now. This account was easy to set up and easy to operate. As it is a savings account, you do not get a ... more
