    Advantages Advantages cheap, lightweight

    Disadvantages Disadvantages reliability, support

There are a few Topnote models, i will talk about the most recent one, the Topnote F 1000. Features You take it out of the box and the first thing you notice is the solid feel of it. The spec is as follows: 1GHz Celeron Processor 128MB RAM 10 GB Hard-disk 6xDVD-ROM/24x CD-ROM 13.3" TFT Screen NI-MH Battery Touchpad Mouse Windows XP Home Edition (On Recover CD) WINDVD 2000 Ok, so the spec isnt soo bad, especially for £799, BUT, As ive said there are drawbacks which i will go in to more detail about later. The prcessor is about bottom of the range in a laptop now, most being shipped with at ... more

    Advantages Advantages cost; speed

Disadvantages Disadvantages unreliable manufacturer service very poor

If you pay £1000 for a laptop but you can only use it for 10 months in the first 12 then I reckon it should cost £833. Looking at IPC reviews after the event I realise how useful sites like CIAO are to help consumers. There are several reports of extended warranty repair turn around times. 30 and 60 days are typically quoted - perhaps this depends upon how much stress you go through with the manufacturer. If you're unlucky enough to get a rogue machine then either enjoy the cheaper initial cost or be prepared to battle hard to get your machine back and repaired. So if you buy a laptop for £150 ... more

    Advantages Advantages High powered

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Rubbish

In September of 2003 I bought a shiny new IPC WebNote G. Very nice, blue. It cost £1500, but I paid £1350 as it was on offer. Brilliant deal a 3 GHz P4 with 512MB RAM, a 64MB graphics card and a huge 60 GB hard drive to go with it. All went well for the first month or so but then performance slid; Ok you should expect that, but 10 mins to start up? That is a bit much. This is how it carried on until the following September with the performance slipping and frequent trips to the repair shop the laptop finally gave up the ghost just days before the IPC guarantee ran out. I was told the hard ... more

    Advantages Advantages cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages lasted 2 days then took 6 weeks to be repaired

A friend recommended this to me as it met my budget! Sometimes you don't need friends. The second time I recharged the battery, the power went dead. It has been 6 weeks and IPC still haven't retuend it to me. This kind of warranty is useless. This kind of cheapness is expensive. I have now bought a different make. My friend says it is £100 cheaper than a Dell and they (Dell) also are unreliable. I don't know. I have to ue my daughter's computer now for my course work. IPC staff are very rude. They seem to think that because it has been in repair for 5 weeks, that it is not a big deal. They ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lack of brand name

About 11 months ago i purchased my IPC webstar from an ipc dealer not really knowing who ipc were but finding myself attracted by the best specification for my budget. i won’t lie and tell you i had no concerns dealing with unknown electronics brand but i took the advise of my local dealer who spoke very highly of them indeed. i was delighted to find i had made the right choice and my laptop looked and performed better then laptops belonging to my work colleagues (a big thing in my office). over the last year that laptop has gone all over the place with me and on the rare occasions my limited ... more

    Advantages Advantages its a laptop

Disadvantages Disadvantages too many to list

ipc are not for me... it is not the fastest of laptops and i would not consider ipc to be one of the best suppliers. i had several problems with my laptop and i got told my motherboard had blown when infact the issue was the keyboard was loose so i lost everything! the print on the keys wore away very quickly and the battery became utterly useless so to use this laptop it has to be plugged in. apart from that the screen sprained on the hinges and is slighty twisted. IPC were not very helpful with my issues and i wouldn't recommend them to purchase a computer from. The hinges have now gone ... more

Advantages Advantages Good Price, Excellent Spec, Restore Cd's supplied

Disadvantages Disadvantages Brand Name, Generic Range Manual

I purchased my Topnote H Laptop, in December 2000, and have found it a reliable laptop, and extremely good value for money. I paid just under £1000 including vat, and received a laptop featuring a Celeron 600MHz processor,Active Matrix TFT screen,64mb RAM, CD-ROM Drive, 1.44mb Floppy, Touchpad 'mouse', 56K modem, 10/100 RJ45 Network Card, USB as well as standard printer/serial/ps2/vga monitor ports. If you had compared this with the other laptops available on the high street at the time, you would have seen that the price / specification / performance would have been hard to beat. The ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent Graphics card, Powerfull, Patient support staff

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Audio card

I’m n the owner of an IPC Topnote, it’s actually the Webnote G which as I understand it is one of their newest laptops out. The laptop is a fair size but I didn’t buy it to be a slim mobile unit, I bought it for a high-end desktop replacement that will handle video / audio editing. 3Ghz P4, 1GB RAM and a 60GB HD -> The Daddy The unit has a Geforce4 NVida card built in which handles my editing software and games with ease so in that respect I am happy.. I made a but of a mistake in thinking the audio card in a laptop we going to be good enough for my requirements.. Trust me laptops audio cards ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages No Docking Station avail

I work as a part-time web-site designer and about 6 months ago I had to replace my old Tiny P3 based laptop for something a bit more upto date that I could do my work on.. My friend recommended IPC as a possibility and brought round his IPC MagicNote T to show me… Looks wise I was well impressed as it had a matt black finish and shiny silver buttons all over it. The spec was also what I was looking for P4 2.8, 512MB, 40GB with a DVD-RW so I found out where he bought it from and went down to the shop. The IPC dealer was able to answer all my questions about the unit and about IPC the company ... more

Advantages Advantages They are cheap and look good

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very unreliable and will probably break down

I work in a computer shop and we used to sell IPC Topnote Laptops. We stopped selling them because I had to return ten out of 13 over a six week period. All of the ten I returned had some sort of hardware problem. Each time, however, the fault would be different. Broken screen, faulty HDD connection, battery won't charge, backlight gone, dead powerpack, etc. When I sent them over to get fixed they would eventually come back but sometimes unfixed or, on one occasion, badly scraped. The manufacturer was unhelpful, but eventually sorted things out most of the time. I won't be selling any more IPC ... more
