I'll Show You Blue Kangaroo - by Emma Chichester Clark ***The Book*** This book is one in a series of books about Lily and her soft toy Blue Kangaroo. These stories usually focus upon moral issues that might face a young child. This one centres upon Lily showing off - oblivious to either irritating people, wrecking the house and even putting her younger brother in danger. The phrase "I'll show you" is used repetitively, which is good for young children ... ...plenty of times, but just ignores what she it told. One day she goes too far and after she jumps onto a see-saw Blue Kangaroo is flung into the air. Her mother sends her to her room, but Blue Kangaroo is lost! Blue Kangaroo is stuck in a tree - hanging on for dear life, when eventually he falls to the ground. He hops off home, injured and Lily's mum and dad repair him. Blue Kangaroo spends all night pondering as to whether he should forgive Lily ...

***Background***
Emma Chichester Clark is both the author and illustrator of this lovely book about a little girl called Lily and her well-loved toy. As well as the Blue Kangaroo series, she has written many other books including the ones all about Melrose and Croc.
***The Story***
The story starts with an exasperated looking mother telling Lily to stop doing what she is doing.
“Blue Kangaroo belonged to Lily.
He was her very own kangaroo.
... ...as she was told, she would say,
‘I’ll show you, Blue Kangaroo!’
And Blue Kangaroo watched. What else could he do?”
Throughout the book, Lily sees things on television or on stage that she thinks she will be able to do and although various family members tell her not to do it, she tries and then fails, causing upset wherever she goes. All through it, she implores Blue Kangaroo to watch her.
Eventually Lily’s mother has had enough of her bad behaviour ...
